thank you so much i don't know why they want you to use the b only pipe router as a main router but this will help a lot of ppl out now this does remove all ports you may be triggering or forwarding
@lockdownrocks. which do you have? Y does it matter if some choices Vonage over Magic Jack. When this video was made MJ wasnt out. also A big draw back with Magic jack is that you have to have a PC setup and on everytime you use it. I can care less eather way I have a cell phone and google voice now!
@johnnyinsnj I am sorry that It wasnt to your standard made it after I figured it out the point of it was that. you could not go from your modem to the vonage box. that was the basis of the post!
I have mine wired just like you did but it is still a piece of crap. I have high speed DSL but not there fastest. I'm starting to think this is where the problem lies for many others also. I live in the armpit of the world so I can't get anything faster. Thanks for posting anyway.
@franklong24 the output from the internet modem was going to the output on the vonage modem, and the input on the vonage modem was going to the output on the router, it should be:
output internet modem > input vonage modem, then output vonage modem > input router
@franklong24 after I rewatched the video, I saw that it was just the router that you had connected wrong, you should have hade the blue cord in the wan port
I totally agree. People need to be very careful with Vonage. I was a customer with Vonage Canada and when I transferred to another carrier, they extortionately charged me another month of service even though I was no longer their customer for that month period. I got harassed by their credit collection agency for refusing to pay for another month of service which Vonage no longer provides to me. This was a lesson to me. I will never, never, never deal with Vonage again. You have been warned.
Damn, they still use old Skillcraft pens? I got out in 2002, and with all knew stuff the Army is getting I'd figured you would at least modernize the pens. lol
I'm not sure if you know this, but do you know pressing that reset button restores your router to default making your wireless network assessable and putting your router's user name and PW back to default making it easy for someone to access it and change things around?
VONAGE IS TERRIBLE - Use the magic jack. Vonage tries to rip everyone off with their crappy service and the contract that it comes with shitty! YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU GET VONAGE!!!!
I love mine I have had it for over 4 years now! magic jack is o.k. I have one for when I am gone It does its job but the down side is if keep taking it out and in ports in will break sooner or later!
when I was stateside it worked just fine for me Well when I was in korea i pushed 911 and it went to the 911 back where I use to live sure enough 5 mins later i got a call back asking is everything allright!
We had Vonage for two years in the Ventura County area, and we never had a problem with it. I never had to make one call to customer service. Never had to use the 911 feature, thankfully.
Vonage Suck! I don't recommend it to anyone. I had it for about 4 months now, and the service is so bad, so terrible, that I have called customer service 47 times in that 4 months period, Can you believe it!? Too many service interruptions. The first 2 weeks everything was great, and then the quality of phone service was so choppy that you can't have a conversation with anyone. If you considering in getting Vonage, I can guarantee you, YOU WILL REGRET IT! So what I did, I canceled my service.
This is a good way to make it work if you do not have your router set up properly, and don't want to figure it out. You could have just disabled DHCP on the router.
The problem is that the Vonage device is looking for an IP, and instead of going to your cable modem for it, it's getting it from your router, which is giving it a private IP. Just disable the DHCP on the router, and everything will have to go to the cable modem for an IP. Everything will work better.
@DerekNS74 Well the issues with what you saying is korea is not like the states this was in south korea where they gov controls the internet. so they relized that people US Mil. was using it and getting around paying money so they blocked it.
You need to configure 911 with vonage E911 ,enhanced 911.(Log on to your account Dashboard >features>On the top of the Features page you will see the 911 Dialing feature box in red). To find out if 911 is activated, simply dial 933 from your Vonage phone & it is available in most areas
ok so it worked in 2008-does it still work in 2009? really need to know...please respond asap! if not does anyone know of any work-arounds that work now?
oh yeah, screw u korea! go build your economy with korean money not off the blood sweat and tears of american service members who are already severely underpaid and under appreciated, cos god knows you dont triple charge your own people to make international calls. oh and you can now start gaurding the dmz - seems like fair trade to me
Yea, it still works. However, using two routers like this really slows down your internet connection especially if you live on base and have to subscribe to the pathetic internet service offered. Also, because of the slow connection if you talk on Vonage, you can't use the internet at the same time. Conversely if you are downloading Bittorrent stuff or something you can't talk on Vonage.
Because with vonage when you dial 911, instead of the call going direct to emergency, it goes to the non emergency line or the sheriff's office. Also the police have no way of knowing what is the adress of from where the call came from.
The Vonage Router i have(VDV21-VD) said it was connecting to the Vonage Sender and then said it was registering to the Vonage Network and then i had after i reset the routers and modem
and then i had the handset symbol and it indicated:Ready to Make Phone Call. The information was very helpful.Keep this video on here.
I had trouble getting the Vonage VDV21-VD router to get a dial tone.I got a busy signal
and error codes plus a message saying it wasn't configured and tried several ways of hooking it up and it wouldn't work using Linksys Router. But your method worked.
Nice, but there could be a reason why it didn't work. I'm not 100% sure of the situation, but from what I can tell the DSL modem could be locked to the wireless's MAC address. If you power cycle it should correct it. If not, then you may have to do a mac clone on the vonage device so the modem can "think" its still talking to the wireless router. Also, its not good to reset your wireless since you loose all your config, including wireless security. In the end, no matter what - it works!!! :)
Great post, but what if you don't have a separate router? SOL? No! If you have a PC, Vonage, Internet, what you do is get a USB cable for your internet modem, hook the modem to PC, vonage to the NIC (ethernet cable port) on the PC and use internet sharing, Voila! Turns the PC into a router more or less. Anyhow, Great post once again and thanks for your service in the military.
This has nothing to do with the Vonage phone... What I'm most interested in is the Coins you have on your table... Are they your Unit Challenge Coins???
Also thanks again I want to thank you for your sevice in the military...
Well... I know about them, I've got two that I carry when I'm doing DOD work. One is from Goodfellow AFB and the other is from a B-2 Bomber Squad. We also carry one with our Fire Department to remind our guys of their required level of professional actions.
you should have hooked your internet to your router first then to your vonage box, thats how i have my wireless router hooked up but instead of a vonage box i have my pc and my other pc is on wifi
Hi.. I just ordered vonage but im in the states.. I am worried about how it is going to work tho.. Am i going to have to move my phone and have it set up right next to my computer??.. And is it really hard to get a dial tone??... Am i going to have to wait for a dial tone or just do what you did in the vid??... Please help... it would be appreciated
Vonage devices our very easy to install. I have it it took me like one min to install. If you need any help just contact vonage and they help you out alot.
This is complicated. Use 1-VoIP.com. They are less than $15.00 per month
