I was lucky to see clash live. It was an amzing gig. Unfortunatly joe strummer, joey ramone, lux interior, jeffrey lee pierce and others went in the sky to early and they leave us alone
Talking about UK punk influences, yeah they all knew about the Ramones, but other NY or USA bands there was only patchy knowledge. The big difference between UK an USA punk is that UK had Glam Rock preceding it, bands like T REX, Bowie and Slade. If you get talking to some of the bands the name that keeps cropping up most is Roxy Music, but nobody ever fucking mentions this in the press cos they think they are arty & too intellectual.
Joe was hit by a small bottle of britvic orange thrown by my mate to simonon the bassist who was gasping for a drink, on the next song he tries to smash said bottle on the stage while still groggy
When my dad saw The Clash live at Middlebrough rock Garden in 1977, Joe Strummer apparantly slipped over on stage. He must have had some sort of problem with stage falling lol!
New York Dolls Television, The Ramones, The Voidoids the Patti Smith Groupe
Then it goes over to england when the Ramones play at the roundhouse.McClaren has no possible coment to make to his Sex Pistols other than"Just Make it Chahotic!"thats how the Pistols developed their power.(McClaren was involeved in managing the New York Dolls)so england didnt invent punk, but think they did.Johnny Ramone himself told Paul Simonon to not wait until they were Jimi Pages and go for it strait away
For me, this is religion: the guitars of Jones/Strummer, the bass of Simonon, the bloody great drums of Heddon, and of course the voice of Joe Strummer. Listening to this combination, saved me from being an ignorant arse! I still owe so much to this band, The only way to pay back is to spread the gospel of St Strummer. Rock on, fuck all authorities!
This was taken from Tony Wilson's Granada Programme "What's On". Filmed November 1977 at Manchester Appollo? Mick Hucknall is the ginger kid at the front.
THE CLASH fue, es y será la banda más importante de toda la historia del rock mundial. Aguante los CLASH, BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE, CARBON SILICON, MESCALEROS y HAVANA 3 AM. VIVA ARGENTINA!!
I think this might be from the movie Rude Boy. If you want to see great live footage of the Clash, you should definitely get it. It is available on DVD.
No it isn't, this from 1977, and Rude Boy was filmed in 1978. This from a TV special, where Joe ad-libbed "See the camera crews? Thats what you fuckin' paid for!"
You're not alone, love it since '77, it's a great song. And Sex Pistols ruled too. You can't say Pistols sold out and don't criticize the fact Clash were on CBS playing mega stadiums. Do not get me wrong, I love The Clash but don't blame one group and accept it from the other. The '77 class all had their own original charm/style.
I just watched the clash and i saw your comment that it was from a movie, can you still get this?i saw this on granada tv back in 1986 celebrating 10yr of punk,i thought it was a bunch of clips granada put together so is it an actual film then? cheers gaz
@dystopia00 A lot of these clips were filmed in 1978 (eraly to mid) for the film "Rudeboy" which came out a year or two later. I don't know what John Lydon would be doing there. The Pistols split January '78 and Lydon was on a break in Jamaica etc and preparing stuff for his then new band PIL. He was fed up with the punk scene by then. I saw The Clash Autumn '78. They changed their image after I saw them...got rid of the zips and pockets etc.
@lkasflapytrs This is from the movie rude boy which had nothing to do with Johnny Rotten. Rotten couldn't even read let alone make a movie not one with Joe at least.
I love the Clash especially in their early years!
