I'm sorry but I just can't get into this Judas. His attitude towards Jesus along with his facial expressions seem angry even borderline envious. Carl Anderson was more convincing in this opening number. You felt like Judas (Carl) was frustrated because he saw a man he truly loved on a brotherly level was careening headlong into dangerous territory and when he did he would be beyond help. Also the modern attire seems cheesy and lame. Sometimes things should be left well enough alone.
I just caught this production on TV a couple of days ago. I think Jerome did an EXCELLENT job playing Judas. I truly think that Jesus and Judas had a private pact - Judas agreed to turn Jesus in knowing that it was part of His plan. Later on, Judas started to lose his faith, and wanted to save Jesus and when he realized he couldn't, went mad. Judas gets a bum rap - but I think that he his right there - with his best friend Jesus in Heaven.
Part 2: The movie leaves open the possibility, but is a bit ambiguous; however, remember the songs that most suggest it are from the point of view of the priests and Judas, who are political animals, and Mary Magdalenee who is in love with Jesus. The next time you watch the movie, pay very close attention to the beginning when they get off the bus and the end when they are leaving. They are both more than suggestive of divinity.
Well, I am a card-carrying - or cross-carrying Christian - and this is also one of my favorite musicals of all time. I have always had the feeling that the things that God thinks are blasphemous and the things that people [who by and large don't want to hear what they don't agree with] do may be very different. I will disagree with one poster and say that I don't think the musical suggests that Jesus wasn't the son of the God.
@xKcWasHerex the fact that you're NOT a Christian is probably what makes it so much easier for you to like this. Most Christians who are legit would consider the whole thing Blasphemy.
@patchedupragdoll First off, who do you consider a "legit" Christian? Secondly, I am a Christian and I don't find this blasphemous. It's looking at Jesus' last days through the possible lens of Judas as Jesus the man not the Jesus the divine. There is nothing wrong with that. Plus, we don't really have all of Judas' story. We just have snippets of what he did and not why he did it. This fills in some possible explanations for Judas' actions.
@timesage61889 hey i dont mean to intrajuect but most "Christian" churchee and sociaties bnned thsi show and hve doen nothing but slander it sinces its birth bc it "ridacules" jesus now you can not beleave that and stilll be a Christian but the majourty of them consider this blasphemy
@taraaboland Dude...why are you getting so hostile. I'M not saying it's blasphemous. I'm not even Christian, I could give a fuck. I'm just saying that to most religious officials, this is blasphemy. It isn't telling a potential story, it's insinuating that Jesus wasn't the son of god, but a man who had a good idea and let the fame go to his head.
@divxsamsung And I bet you believe Christmas was originally a Christian holiday too, don't you? And that you decorate a Christmas tree because people from your religion started doing it?
@rali929 you do realized Andrew Lloyd Weber who wrote the rock opera in the first place credited this version as the closest interpretation of what he was trying to write, so I'll trust his opinion over yours, thanks!
Jerome Pradon is fabulous, he has a fantastic voice and he is a great actor he is "all over" that piece and is the greatest by far! I just see it 20 times and never get bored cause he is so so beautiful (professionally and as a man)! Love you Jerome!
The music sounds great in this one, just not sure I like how he is singing it - i think it should be a bit rockier. I personally prefer the 70s version.
@xKcWasHerex This is actually a very secular take on Jesus' final moments. I'm pretty sure the guy who wrote this wasn't christian either. It's weird because this is my favorite musical too, and I am christian! Andrew Lloyd Webber's just a genius.
