  • oh hai Adrian Belew.

  • i like the cute black chick in the purple - she has nice moves. Who is she?

  • Cool...i just wish the bass played the original line. This is a dumbed down simplification of a very cool rythm.

  • @jpmfresno Much better when Tina does it!!

  • best happiness n memories

    BarbeQue Mania summer afternoons

    water flowing undergorund

  • The right way of Behind beat. what a fun!!!

  • awesome, great to see Adrian Belew on guitar in this video

  • Tina should be on bass ...Byrne should have been replaced !

  • I like TIna's bass better. Byrne was an asshole for fucking with this band. His giant ego is visible in every bit of live footage and video. Love the band Talking Heads, hate him for destroying it.

  • whats with no Tina on bass

  • wow! that bassline is legendary

  • class is class

  • Love it love it love it :)

  • the days go bye

  • ere did I go bye?

  • 27 people have said "MY GOD, WHAT HAVE I DONE?!" after disliking.

  • with Adrian Belew in their line up, yeah!!!

  • How hard is it to get a sound setting for an instrament with 4 wires on it ?? shame, listen to other live version.

  • how do you not like this purew musical joy

  • That bass is in YO FACE

  • @dana44s it might need more bass i think

  • @speedofc

you compare child molesters to the VC? wanna read a history book? maybe one that's not written by an american idiot?

  • The bass player would be Busta Jones....after this tour he would join Gang of Four to replace Dave Allen. I saw him filling in for Dave on 24 hours notice at Seattle's Showbox Theater in '81....

  • Where is Tina?

  • @mountainmanga This. She is completely absent from the sound mix. I also think she looks really mad at the instruments she is playing =(

  • It's the same as it ever was for 23 people.

  • love the bass on this live recording

  • @wayniewayne

I love the bass too... its the heart of the song, and an unusual beat. Brilliant.

  • But who IS that bassplayer??? Did Tina hurt her hand on this gig?

  • Bill Nye meets 80's rock.

  • Oh and the 'Wembley" videos :-)

  • @foreverthewho Isn't that Tina on keyboards?

  • @spazola789 She's standing behind the keyboards, but appears to be playing percussion. Bernie Worrell is playing the main keys that I hear.

  • Awesome band.

  • i like how the black chick shakes at 2:10. whats her name anyway? She's beautiful and has a good voice!

  • @Defender78 That would be the lovely Dolette McDonald. Check out the Heads live in Rome videos here on youtube if you want to hear/see more of her :-)

  • ...tuuuuuuuuuuuune! Yes o!

  • Cooool !!!

  • wheres tina?

  • @foreverthewho Isn't that her on keyboards @ 0:26? But yeah it's disappointing that she's not on bass...

  • beautiful performance. they earned their coke money for that week.

  • No words!

  • The bass player sounded like this on purpose to reproduce the record's sound! Seriously, this stage was loaded with some of the best musicians there were in the late '70s and early '80s. Talking Heads had major bravado to hire this mix of musicians and such a payroll likely meant they had nothing left!

  • @Jamfan100 Too right. Adrian Belew! Masterful. It was about the music. Same as it ever was.

  • "You may ask yourself" What the hell has happened to modern music?

  • @n8tureboy

    Brilliant post........totally agree..

  • one of the greatest tours of all time? rome by itself is enough to put it up there. amazing and monumental moments in time. 5 stars.

  • Busta Jones on Bass ...check him out with Stevie Ray Vaughan on NIGHT MUSIC one of the best bass players in the biz

Busta also toured with David in Europe

  • the bass sounds shiiiit.

  • Is it just me, or does Tina look pissed off at every instrument she is playing and when she is singing into the mic in this performance? Also, I don't hear her in the music mix =(

  • I thought Rockpop was Lip-syncing only

  • same lineup as heat wave....mosport raceway 1980....once in a lifetime if your lucky

    thanks for making my day

  • the bass near the end is just totally out of control, fuck

  • @slangshotstudios if you like bass check out some chili pepper songs

  • @pinkytm1 hahaha definately this song is stuff of dreams david byrne is a walking god!!! like john lennon george mccartney, etc etc

  • @pinkytm1 LMAO!!!

  • @pinkytm1 Amusing comment

  • David Byrne is a genius~

  • Unique. Once in a lifetime.

  • what a line up. wish i was there

  • Mother nature dances to this for sure!!

  • Same as it ever was. Who here loves the Talking Heads movie, True Stories? Me

  • look how young, great musicians

  • i like the HBC (hot black chick) in the purple as well as the white chick clapping the 2 bricks together

  • @Defender78

    "the white chick"

    that's TINA WEYMOUTH boy!

bassists, original member of Talking head s and all around sexpot!

yeah, she is hot but come on! :)

  • @beselbic the bassline is great...and there's only four notes the entire time. Really. It never changes, even in the chorus. My dad taught it to me, it was the first song I learned, and that led the way to my total Talking Heads addiction! :D

The only way the line could be better would be if Tina was playing it!

  • @pezgirl31

Cool, a fellow bass player. Being a bass player, I always notice songs with great bass lines, and the bass line on "Once In a Lifetime" caught my attention right away. It's the song that got me into Talking Heads' music in the first place. Yeah, it would have been cool if Tina had been playing the bass line. I wonder why she wasn't . Still an amazing performance by the Heads.

  • The great bass line really anchors this song.

  • @beselbic the bassline is great...and there's only four notes the entire time. Really. It never changes, even in the chorus. My dad taught it to me, it was the first song I learned, and that led the way to my total Talking Heads addiction! :D

  • @pezgirl31 Love that you have picked up on this genius from your dad..long may you enjoy the art of music..its in the simplicity. x

  • go black bass player!

  • @envenom1 ...the fuck?

  • Once in a lifetime is about the meaning of the song... and the bass.

Here and now, and a great bass to surf our timeless existance... same as it ever was, nothing new under the sun.

  • Great performance, too bad the mix is wrong>the Bass Guitar was too loud, it sounded good just needed to be a bit quieter and that chick at the end shouldn't have even been near that loud, but if the sound engineer never heard the band or the music it could have been hard to know what to mix for levels.

  • The greatest band ever at the top of their game

    Untouchable!!!!!!!!

  • It could be better. See emakrox comment just below.

  • why isnt tina playing bass?

  • Comment removed

  • Wow...so much for German precision...that is the worst audio from a TV show I ever heard! Also, based on this performance, it really wasn;t necessary to replace Tina on bass with Busta Jones. Tina played original bass lines that fit the songs. Busta;s tone sux.

  • @paulnunz Couldn't disagree more. Though I really like Tina's quirky, quaint bass lines in the early days, there's no way she was gonna play with the attack and precision required if they were gonna move into the new phase. Byrne knew what he was doing a'la Sting, Paul McCartney, etc... It doesn't make you alot of friends, but thank god they did it.

  • @toservearmadillo Tina is the one in the red dress.

@ictrout AGREED. The Aretha Franklin-wannabe is too much.

  • you may find yourself reading this....and go "Because Talking Heads rule!

  • And you may say to yourself " My God, What have I done?!" quite possibly on a daily basis for the rest of your life.

  • defiantly a fan of the keyboardists hair style :)

  • Is that Robert Fripp?

  • @InvaderAlex22 It most certainly is.

  • Idiots, stop talking.

  • I don't really think this is the Talking Heads.

    Where's Tina Weymouth?

  • david im sure is beyond words with as much as you all can go on and on about BLAH BLAH BLAH,....there's the Artist Performer and then there's the AUDIENCE and like as if the opinion of the audience ever made a difference to the band or the reason or the meaning,.....bob dylan said "you shouldn't let other people get their kicks for you"

  • my dad likes his old music

  • So close! If that chick in the purple outfit wasn't there to overpower David's vocals this would have been perfect. As it is, I have no desire to listen to this one again. Her voice on the chorus and especially at the end ruined the whole song.

  • busta jones adrian belew and bernie worrel on the same stage...absolutely fuckin awesome

  • Aww... Christ Sakes... I Can't Stand Adrien Belew.

    ...

Belew Is Fucking Annoying To Watch... Kinda Like A Satanic-Ex Wife's Dream Of Being A Crazy-Ass Retard With A Guitar Out To Shock Robert Fripp Into Being His Whipping Post... I AllWays Liked John Wetton More Than Belew.

    ...

And That God-Awefull Gay-Church Boy Group That He "Produced"-Jars Of Clay... GodDamned Faggots.

    ...

    I Hate Adrien Belew.

  • @LordPrick hey Charlie, You might have your opinion, but Frank Zappa, Lord Cool on High, way cooler than you, thought Belew was cool enough to play with him. And belew, while admittedly a little bit dorky, does a great job in Frank Zappa's movie Baby Snakes. Especially the song "City of Tiny Lites". So THERE

  • @decimated550

Nah... I Am WAAAAY MORE "Cooler" Than Frank Zappa.

    ...

I Just Need To Get Turned On By The Right Girl First.

    ...

I Heard That Zappa Specialized In Takeing Advantage Of SomeBody In Denial That His Shit Sucked- The Same Way That Beck Hansen And Ozzy Ozbourne Do.

    ...

By Being Over-Hyped By Married Guys.

  • All the time i waited when Belew begins with one of his killer solos, but that did not happen. I've heard this band playing better versions of this song.

  • Love it!! Saw them a couple of days earlier in Amsterdam. Why this bickering here? They were a fantastic band, they were all great, Adrian Belew was amazing and I love David Byrne.

  • i thing the "once in a lifetime" part would sound better withought the blacklady doing backup vocalls

  • @jbmcvey23 ya we didnt breed them to be singers thats for sure

  • @Xeidasx her voice is overriding the song....

  • cool

  • What happened to youtube?

    Where r the dates?

  • David Byrne has a reputation as a credit-hog and control freak. The Weymouths formed Tom Tom Club so they could make records free of Byrne. Brian Eno taught him the financial benefits of having your name first in the credits. Personally, I dig his writing and I'm a huuuge Heads/TTC fan regardless of what could be industry hearsay..

  • @JesusPaid4You Jesus is as real as Santa Claus, pull your head out of your arse.

  • How about you try being a little less jewish, freak.

  • bernie worrell ftw

  • This is not the Talking Heads, this is David Byrne. No credit to the other Heads ... Weymouth. Bryne is selfish.

  • @KURTHUNT - tina's there. Jerry's there. Chris is behind the drums. This is the Expanded Heads. I've always thought it was a mistake to have Busta Jones in on bass, just as the bass sweetening on the first Heads album was in error. Tina rocks on her own.

  • @KURTHUNT

But there could be no Talking Heads without David Byrne...all the others are, well, replaceable.

  • LETTING THE DAYS GO BYYYYYY... i'd rather hear DB sing it then the girl. good version anyway, like the bass.

  • Your jesus doesn't spam.

  • I love that bass slapping!

  • mmm... sounds a bit slow.. is it?

  • @novett uh thats cuz it's live maybe, and it has to come across with greater clarity to the audience? I like the shots of the chicks singing.

  • go chuck season 4!!!!!!! from lisbon

  • fear of music and remain in light are one of the best 80ies albums!!!great compositions.....

  • is... that... ADRIAN BELEW?! WOW!

  • Oh yes it is!

  • Check out the Born Under Punches with him on it, absolutely astoundingggggg

  • And you may find yourself in a grocery store pondering which breakfast cereal would help lower your cholesterol without sacrificing flavor.

  • @XxzealerxX Losing cholesterols gonna be tough.

    *crunching Honey nut cheerios*

  • @XxzealerxX Tricky, if you find the answer be sure to let me know.

  • @XxzealerxX rofl

  • @XxzealerxX :D Watch my vid for this song. Editing it was a both a joy and very scary - I am nearly double the age I was in it, and a totally different human to then. Still, same as I ever was...

  • it's all the same to me, m or w , ...

  • kind of lame that tina weymouth wasn't talented enough to play her own bass lines.

  • @lazerman - she's playing keyboard bass lines!! Check the film stop making sense

  • @lazerman

its the same damn bass rhythm the whole song

  • @lazerman - not as shameful as you being so ignorant of what is going on in the song.

Read up on what Eno and the band say about lifting that bass line from previous studio jamming... when Tina played it.

Nothing worse than an ignoramus spouting opinion with no regard to facts.

  • geil :)

  • boss tune this and i see thats adrian belu on ryth gtr hes a top man him hes boss city of tiny light by zappa him

  • Awesome!

  • this is such a badass song

  • if I day, they will play this at my funeral :D

  • 4.17 - 4.33. I could listen to that jam forever.

  • HAHA! IT is Adrian Belew!

  • @TruthAxe Couldn't sing or play guitar? I think you are missing the point of music.. Skills only accent expression.

  • I also like the Once in a Lifetime house remix

    great track

  • i love this track

  • So this is what Henry listened to in the car when time travelling. He 32 , she sweet 16.

  • hey what do you know what adrian belew!

  • You mean Byrne didn't know he could sing and realize he didn't need to play a guitar...

  • genius what an amazing song

  • If you find yourself...how did i get here

  • such an epic jam

  • Theres something bout this tune

  • bass in your face

  • My G-d! That was Adrian Belew, the Big Electric Cat himself, on second guitar! (Yellow T-shirt, red pants)

  • c'est génial la chanson, mais la choriste elle est complétement aux fraises ! elle chante FAUXXXXX

  • je n'aime pas aussi la choriste!

  • To Eric Nordwall, may he rest in peace

  • foxfac007: David Byrne was Scottish, not American. The band was formed in America, but Byrne was born in Dumbarton. Couldn't agree more with it being era defining though. My favourite song of all time!

  • @richardn413 : he's from Lansdowne, Baltimore HUN. same as Frank Zappa & John Water. He left the Scotland when he was 2. But as Mike Myers would say If it's no' Scottish, it's Crap!

  • The original mTV video WAS on youtube, anyone know wtf happened to it? I DID have it favored, but now its missing and i can't find it again. Seriously, wtf? They removed it?

  • this is so fucking great! VINTAGE stuff here...Thanks!~

  • USA's Ian Curtis. Love this version. Era defining when it came out.

  • I prefer the Talking Heads without the funk orchestra.

  • Not Bad, but these guys can seem weird to those who have never really heard them b4.

  • that's why this is a chart-topping song??

  • Cool as an iceberg.... crispy as a lettuce :0)

  • radical as a radish

  • ..and as eye-wateringly saucy as a large serving of wasabi on sushi! ;0)... I am getting a yen for something to chow down on!!

  • mehr mehr more more ... :)

  • Before Jonathan Demme!

  • If this was 82' it was Busta Jones w/ Belew.

Saw this tour @ SPAC, it was great, I think.

  • That's not a guitar, that's a bass, and that's Busta Cherry Jones. The other guitarist is Adrian Belew.

  • The bassist

  • Somebody--anybody! Who is the dude with the hat bouncing around on the guitar?

  • David Byrne is so young..hmm..and im getting old

  • This song is great anytime!! Love it

  • you may ask yourself how did i get here....

  • Step back, this song is infectious!!

The guy in Canada colours just makes me want to dance around with a guitar!

  • Anyone know where to see the mtv version of Once in a Lifetime?

  • The female backup singer ruined this for me; otherwise woulda been great. She was way off key

  • just preserve this stuff because one day, if we don't protect it, they will remove it from us!

  • The Original video was removed for copyrights! that sucks!
