@Sciopticl The whole point is, they are MALE chicks, so no good for meat or eggs. ALL chickens raised for meat (boilers) are female and obviously all egg-layers. The only males needed are the odd, specially bred roosters for fertilising.
@Sciopticl Male chickens take up food and space and don't produce eggs. The system is designed such that killing them increases profit margins, and this is the cheapest way to do it.
@Sciopticl You wouldn't know if there is a problem with eating the male ones, because unless you have killed a rooster yourself, you have never eaten one as none get past the stage you see in this video, except those bred and raised specifically and exclusively for fertilising eggs.
@Sciopticl I don't eat animals myself, but the broiler chickens (raised for "meat") are bred to grow so fast, that they are ready for slaughter at 6 weeks old (still biologically "chicks"), well short of their natural lifespan of up to ten years. I guess male chicks do not grow fast enough, or have enough meat on them to be commercially viable... it's all about the almighty dollar these days.
