forgive me but violin is incongruous in the jazz idiom, in spie of her technical proficiency and allure; Jean=Luc Ponty is boring and outside of the intro this piece is rather pedestrian. Violin didn't work for John Handy and it doesn't work here.

At least the start is from Bachs' Partita No. 2 for Violin in D minor, BWV 1004: V. Chaconne. Do not know the rest, since I haven't been bothered to watch the whole thing. But its definitely Chaconne at the start. And yes, I know what you mean, she is taking a new twist to it, which is why it doesn't sound like Bach :) Hillary Hahn plays Chaconne beautifully, look it up :)

@Browniesisgood Umm... yeah, no. This is definitely nothing like the Chaconne. Stylistically it's similar, but it's in C minor, not D minor. Also, aside from the brief bariolage section she does (which Bach certainly doesn't have a patent on), I hear no quoting of the Chaconne or any other Bach piece for that matter. The intro is a unique composition and isn't "from" anything.

Qualifications: I'm a violin performance major and have played the Chaconne.

Due to the violin's excellent range, there is no need for another instrument to play higher than it.

Add in artificial harmonics, and you can extend it way passed the flute.

@hieronomy I agree, Jean Luc Ponty is great jazzy violin music. Best I've heard, but his songs tend to go to some type of experimental jazz, this song stays more on the normal jazz you would hear. Its got that nice rhythm or I should say, "taste" of jazz. Ponty's song have that as well, but as I said, he plays more of an experimental jazz, he tends to play around with notes making epic sounds, but I must say, this is a really jazzy string song! Would love to hear a CD of music like this...
