Long range Soviet missiles were not very accuate back in those days but their short range missiles were and the Caribbean is very close to the US mainland. After the Cuban missile crisis the Soviets decided to use other Caribbean countries for their missiles and so they used Castro to do their dirty work while staying out of it. This is history.

it was an exuberant operation. The USSR didn t need and didn t want to station nuclear weapons in Grenada. At that time the NATO finally was busy with the re armament in W. Europe to pose the famouse wire on the continent.

@nicck The primary objectives of the Soviets back then was the need for warm sea ports and to get closer to the US mainland. Long range Soviet missiles were not very accuate back in those days but their short range missiles were and the Caribbean is very close to the US mainland. After the Cuban missile crisis the Soviets decided to use other Caribbean countries for their missiles and so they used Castro to do their dirty work while staying out of it. This is history.

At some point, however, Iraq started buying more weapons again, and giving bribe money to the U.N., France, and Russia to stay silent about it while Iraq's people were starving as a result. This did not came to light until 2004 while UK and US are too busy with Iraq war.

Nothing suggests that the students were in any danger at the time. In fact, the Cuban government ordered its people not to interfere in the event that the US comes to pick up its people.
By a vote of 122 in favour, the United Nations General Assembly adopted General Assembly Resolution 38/7 which "deeply deplores the armed intervention in Grenada, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of that State".
