Same problem with the bay bridge, posted 40 mph, people go 50+ mph. This is America, nobody hardly follow rules around here. HWY1 is indeed a road with a great view, people should not learn from mistakes but to prevent them from happening.
people should be allowed to take responsibility for their own safety. The sign is already there absolving the state of responsibility. If people want to take a risk they should be free to do so, they're not hurting anyone, and this isn't a police state. I would not approve of any tax dollars spent to reinforce this site.
1) i think the sign says "hikeing or climbing" ...not sure if "standing and looking" apply
2) im pretty sure that you chance the same risk to cross hwy 1 as the chances of falling off or a cliff giving away.

There are lots of places along the coast similar in nature, especially north of Bodega. They don't even have signs up there.
I figure if you're silly enough to get too close to the cliffs, then you're a Darwin Award candidate.
