NHRA fuel cars are limited to 500 ci

There is no dyno able to simulate the load needed for one of these engines to run properly and able to measure the hp produced.

A few years ago one of the top teams ran a computer simulation to estimate the hp produced.

If i recall correctly, it was somewhere in the 8-9000 hp range.

Actually, Nitromethane is not very energetic at all, Gasoline is almost 4 times as energetic; however, due to the very high Oxygen content of Nitromethane, we can shove a TON more of it into an engine than we could Gasoline, we can shove into an engine over TEN times more the amount of Nitro than Gasoline and THAT is where this immense amount of power is coming from, the fact that although it's less energetic, we're feeding the engine TONS of it.
