@gsw42489 Yes, that is our Assistant Fire Chief Sandy Ladd. He's the same "white helmet" guy you see in the early part of the video, and he is the incident commander in the radio transmissions throughout the video. He was more than glad to help out after the fire was mostly extinguished.
@gsw42489 Our Chief still does interior attack here etc. His white helmet is far from being nice clean and shiny white like the others. Guess he is the true meaning of lead by example.
@ColchesterFire yeah I know its a point a shoot, I realized that half way through, I thought someone was just standing there panning with a helmet cam lol
But the only fire proof cams I've seen are firecams brand which others are you referring too
@italianbroker1 I think the FC brands are the best, but I've seen a TON of different "fireproof" helmet cams on ebay. Don't really know if they are any good. I seem to recall Cairns making one as well, but I don't know if they still do. Good luck in your search!
haha i was looking up helmet cams and i came across this one, and i was like damn what camera is this? im think wow this is great quality, it even zooms! then i was like awww its not a helmet cam lol
@italianbroker1 There are a lot of great helmet cams available for a couple of hundred dollars from what I've seen online-don't know about zooming, though. The camera used to film this is actually a decent "point-and-shoot" and not even a dedicated video only unit. Model is Canon S5 IS. It's been a great workhorse for me and given us some nice photos and video footage.
@thecowboy09 I used to hate cold weather fires. Now that I'm a geezer (51) I can't stand fires when it's hot! It's been over 100 here in Texas for almost a month now, and when the tones go off I'm saying "false alarm...please be a false alarm"!!! Keep safe and stay low!
@ColchesterFire sure :) it's just like wonkawillie77 said: no lame music, just the plain good video and the radio traffic - just perfect. please keep going with vids like that!
Thanks for the info please continue to post your videos of more fires you go on! I had thought about becoming a volunteer ff here in WVA. Went up about 2 weeks ago and saw a house on fire and watched the ff respond. This is in Vermont correct?
@fred28976 Thank you for watching our videos-We will post more as additional opportunities present themselves. Being a volunteer is a big commitment, and can be extremely rewarding! Check with your local fire dept to learn about it and see if it fits in your lifestyle! And yes, we are located in Vermont, just north of Burlington on Lake Champlain.
Colchesterfire I bet that was a cold/hot night and I think you guys did a awesome job working that in the snow and keeping it from spreading to the other trailers there. I live in a trailer and hope to god that never happens here. What was the cause of this fire?
@fred28976 It actually was just below freezing out, so really not that bad of a night. The snow only impeded our progress slightly, so not really a big issue. If I recall, the fire was caused by a faulty electrical device in the home-can't remember if it was a heater or what. I remember it had been recently purchased, though. It started in the living room on the side closest to the road.
@darth500 We actually have a 3" line pre-connected to a Blitzfire gun on a few of our trucks. In addition we have a portable deck gun for each engine/tanker that is stored in a compartment on each truck. And regarding your previous comment on our ISO 3 rating, what you posted is true-it is hard to get-especially when you consider a large portion of our coverage area is NOT hydranted! Thanks for your support!
@statictha1da: Yes, we are an all-volunteer company, and we had to lay a line in from the hydrant, but it actually was quick in real time. I'm very surprised you feel qualified to pass judgement on the time it took just by watching a video I edited. It's also unfortunate that you choose to disparage volunteers in general-we are actually the only volunteer company in the state of Vermont to receive an ISO Class 3 rating (you should google it if you don't know what ISO means).
Nice work, but why, towards the end, are so many standing so close and your white hat is in the still smoldering ruins without being on Air?!! Good job on the fire though, trailers really do suck.
Thanks! We had a lot of people assisting with bringing saws and tools to the folks overhauling the ruins. We use an Oxygen saturation meter to check everyone (including me, the photographer!) with during and after the incident. The Assistant Chief's reading was 2 ppm (less than a smoker would read) AFTER he got done overhauling. It might not always look like it, but we try to operate with due regard to our safety at all times.
You are right about trailer fires going up quickly! We were fortunate to be able to stop small fires in the two adjacent homes. Overhaul definitely took a while! The K12 made it somewhat easier to cut up the aluminum roof and move it off the pile.
We got lucky on the snow up here (if you mean that morning, anyway)-we might have had about three or four inches on the ground when the call came in...
Talk about stoked! It's so much fun 2 get paid while we play!

I see a white helmet helping with overhaul. Chief, or volunteer? If that's a chief, that's nice to see him getting his hands dirty.

Iso 3 is very hard to get. To put this in perspective. There are only 4 departments in the nation that have an iso of 1. Most departments get a 5.

God trailer fires suck, they always go up quick and quickly endanger most exposures. That and they take forever to overhaul once they collapse.
So how did you boys like the snow up north? We got roughly 2 feet down here in Putney by the time everything was said and done.
