one thing about lars, is that you can tell its him behind the drums, without even seeing him. he may not be the best and he may get alot of shit for his live performances, but hes definitely original and contributes in a huge way to metallicas sound.
If you guys want this track you can email him at masterofseans@yahoo.com he will give it to you. He gave it to me atleast. He has other tracks too from Met.
@metallicaandkornrock mmmm, just heard few songs like Fuel, Devil's Dance, Unforgiven II, The Memory Remains, Hero Of The Day, i remember is the same style of Black Album
regardless, he still performed it for the recording and still performs it each show, just a simple fact of the business, recording is a totally different thing and everyone does it different.
@imisterchris yeah he plays it still but cuts out all the juicy bits which makes it flacid and stale.he recorded that shit 23 years ago when cocaine was more of a facter in his life.i love what lars did befor the black album too bad he has gotten too rich to care about his ever so lazy skill set.dave lombardo murders him as does charlie benante, gene hoglan, john tempesta, paul bostaph, mike portnoy, nicko mcbrain, tim alexander, sean reinart, richard christy, tommy aldridge, vinny caoluito ect. ect. fact
lars made the drums, so that shows he is a god drummer, why do people always compare? these drums were written in the early 80's!! not many people do stuff as good as this nowadays
buhbutuber, are you a Lars n_thugger by any chance? Listen again.. then compare it to say the drum tracks by someone like Dave Lombardo. Lar's timing isn't always bang on and a lot of it is lost in the mix but you can hear it here and my bet is that it is edited. I love the And Justice for All album and the drums but I'm pointing out what seems obvious to me anyway..
Yeah this drum track was mixed horribly with all the panning and verb but it does cut well in the mix and that is all that matters. Anyone else notice Lars sloppy foot work on some of the beats?2:14-2:21. I am guessing they punched the kick in and out to make it more or less line up cause it is splotchy in bits. I don't feel so useless anymore as I have shiite feet. :)
Stop kidding yourself, there's no sloppiness with the beats at any point of time in the song. You're probably the only one "noticing" something wrong b/w 2:14 to 1:21. Hint hint...
how does he perform those fast double kicks so easily is what i wanna know. Im a drummer and have gotten alot better over the year ive been playing but i want some more challenging songs like this and doing those fast double kicks is something i struggle on. Anyone who can help thanks. sorry if i sound like a total metal drummer newbie.. lol
starting with metallica is a great way to start playing drums. check out protest the hero - the dissentience if you want a pretty difficult song to master. If you learn that song I guarantee you'll be a million times better.
Double bass drum kit dude. Or for the cheaper version of the same thing you can get a double pedal. Sorry if you already know this and were after more of a technique based tip - the only thing I could offer there is something i heard of called "heel toe" technique.
it's not so much being able to play this, it's being able to write it. lars wrote countless drum sequences that nobody would ever think of. not saying that this is easy to play at all. it's one of his way more challenging songs. the whole ...and justice for all album is crazy sweet drums. lars is a mastermind.
@TillmannBTVdrums ... and the napster thing was bs.. oooohh we have to pay $.99 for a song when the CD's cost 15-20 i mean why do ppl care and why are they so greedy, lars is the shit to end all shits, (and i mean that in a good way)
not true i agree with hating people that steal music but it takes someone to steal music for the rest to steal. if no one stole music then there would not be any to steal but when people steal it just opens the door for everyone else. if everyone stole that would just help the stealing process. because most people download it from file sharing programs and that is just using the material that someone else stole and in turn are stealing themselves.
@TillmannBTVdrums What you said is true but I think you are giving Lars too much credit. If you check out Dark Angel's second album "Darkness Descends" (1986) you will see that Lars wasn't that original. All in all he is a good drummer but not a mastermind.
i know he can be as good now but i saw him in dublin this year and he bailed out of so many fast kick sections which he can do like in the Nimes vid but often pulls out of them
live nimes was edited to make lars sound better, metallica enhance their live sound, i know because i worked at summer sanitarium 03, james uses voice correction and lars uses effects to make his drums sound on time and fuller
if ur talking about the bass drum parts, its probably becasue he does it with one foot, on the single bass drum, which means it happens so fast, it isn't very loud, which means it doesn't get picked up enough by the mics to be heard clearly...happens to me sometimes live.
yes, Lars does the drumming, but he skip the last 2 or 3 seconds, it sounds very irregular, he is almost dying while playing it and many times he lose the coordination after fast the double bass parts
Scratch that you can record the audio directly when practicing the drum track in rock band. Just put the speed at 25 percent and then play it and hit all the notes. and then put it back to 100 when you finish recording
That sounded great! No frills.. I was playing my acoustic along to it as best as I could because I had it handy... that's the real deal holyfield track there... fucking awesome. Thanks!
I don't know WHAT is impossible because people didn't like my comment, and I have forgotten something I posted a month ago. Why I would remember it, I don't know.

they didnt have pro tools but something very similar. he played to a click track since 84 just so they could use as many good takes and cut them into the slot. im weary of his old age cause he sucks balls now, cant hear any kick, or snare in his 2/4 beats live. but maybe its just all age. i say this as a fan, he was an innovater (cant spell). but i personally could kick the shit out of lars' drumming when i was 15

there are all sorts of urban myths about justice and its drumming. i once heard that lars recorded 1 measure of double bass to tape and looped that throughout the whole of Dyers Eve
go and listen to it again. youll notice that each time the bass starts it starts either loud or weak, and ends either loud or weak EVERY TIME. its off time in some places too..
Listen to battery live in 89 or disposable heroes in metal hammer festival, he can druk that fast and can keep his pace live, I don't know about dyers eve but I highly doubt that used diff takes for the bass pedals.
I think that Dave Lombardo, Neil Peart, Chris Nail or Nick Menza are better than Lars but Lars was a original and intense drummer. Now he has lost very much
sorry man lars wasnt the original intense drummer Lombardo was doing it before him and there were people playing that kind of stuff b4 metallica hit the scene
the only thing lars has got is that he iis the most well known just because he was in metllica
its totally a different style or should i came with joe morello or john bonham ? you can only compare lombardo to lars wich came with intense drumming earlier than dave when Hell Awaits was realesed
Esse não é o Lars tocando...é feito em Computador essa bateria, pq o cara q fez esqueceu d reproduzir uma virada q tem no final...ele fez no bumbo aonde no CD é na caixa!!

Lars, he improves himself anytime he wants.
Kill 'Em All - Badass
Ride The Lightning - His crashes sounded as lightnings (more toms)
Master Of Puppets - Master
AJFA - Many critics say it's his best work
Black - More single, slower but still kick ass
St Anger - Not his best sounding but very agressive playing
Death Magnetic - Overwhelming as the earlier albums

It's from Rock Band. Any song that you can get for it, you can get the stems for.
