  • GO UP...

  • Wow. This port looks really good! im impressed the commodore 64 could have run this. also, awesome playin'!

  • @BlueWorrior The C64 was much more capable than this. You should see games like Mayhem in Monsterland.

  • I bought this for my C64 but never got to play it because it would never load. The tape deck on the c64 was always f**king up.

  • Hehe wöw, it seems like it's really easy to power up on the C64 Salamander compared to the NES Life Force version!

  • i played this game after i played the MSX version, the MSX looks better and play better, But the c64 is much smoother scroll, the music also is better on the MSX cuz it uses the SCC chip music. KOOL memories !!!

  • @rickonami i also played the msx and then the c64 version and i was like holy crap the c64 version was well fast compared to the msx, i don't think the graphics are better on the msx but i did think the music was good very arcade like.

  • Wow!!!!This Is Like The Nightmare Of Gradius Allways Come!!!!Including The Salamander

  • Wow!!!The Music Quite Fine And The Game Too!!!!!

  • fffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

    the music could've been better

    alot better

    but great port otherwise

  • it looks good for the console

  • ive always liked salamander and nemisis beter than r-type this is the best 8 bit conversion

  • salamander it's the best! 5 star!

  • I still think that the music could've been done better.

  • good scroll,good ""arcade salamander""conversion

  • simply the best game on the C64,imo.

  • OMG! I remember this game, I still got it ! lol, one of the BEST most enjoyable shoot em ups i've played on the C64

  • No two player option and two missing stages yet this was still brilliant!

This is still a far more accurate port of the coin op than R-Type was (look up the unfinished C64 version of R-Type! FAR better!).

Loved it way back when and I still do. Comparing it to the arcade here, overall, have to say, great job.

  • Looks easy to get powerups in this game. I love that first track!

  • Nice game from what I see.

C64 looks completely different from the version I played (and 1L cleared) though.

MSX version (by Konami themselves) kicks this version's ass -imho- of course ;).

Different level design, way more difficult,

and (I don't say this often becuz I love the c64's soundchip) superior musical qualities.

R-type is a way better interpretation on the 64 imho. (better than MSX version too)

And I like Salamander usually way more than R-Type.

Still thanks for the vid. :)

  • The MSX version has interesting level design but suffers from the usual terrible scrolling in most MSX shooters.

  • jerky scrolling indeed.

It doesn't distract from gameplay 1 bit though. It's only in retrospect that I notice.

Best home computer/console version of this game is MSX by far.

    I envy the C64's R-type port though.

Made me fall in love with that game.

  • Madskills...watching you play this I realise all the things I should have done when playing it back in the day!

  • What a superbly faithful conversion this is. Credit to the coder indeed!

  • They ruined the music.

  • man i can remember this game...it was cool. Thanks DS

  • bit better than the CPC464 version shown elsewhere on youtube.

  • YES! COMMODORE 64 Salamander, in full!
