@hoosieragainstobama it's better to leave em empty if in storage so the spring has no tension on it, if a spring is compressed for a long period of time it may keep that shape, thus rendering the magazine useless

I rather have more ammo then hving more magazines. 4 mags for me is enough for me. You have one problem,how are you going to carry all those mags with you when you have to bring them with you outside your house and how fast is it going to take you to reload all those mags?

Magazines are also a trade item, especially in SHTF situations. Buy good quality, buy in bulk, buy for common guns and store carefully.

@Taud I know what ur saying and its a good point make but when u think about it how many springs in ur rifle or pistol sit under compression. its use that heats them up and weakens them. as long as they are made for it and not over comppressed and the springs are high quality they should be fine. maybe with early lowest bidder government issue mags it might have been a problem. I think Magpul even made there mags a little bit longer then standered mags to prevent the over compression

Now here's a guy who makes sense. What good is ammo without x-tra magazines. Let's say you're in a 7/11 store looking for rolling papers when you hear "gimmee all your doe mother fu_ _er. You know just by the dialect of the poor English as to the color of the perpetrator so you know this is going to be serious. Leroy has backup in a stolen vehicle outside and you're going to need at least 20rounds to effectively cool this fire, 2 clips.

Keeping mags loaded does not weaken them, that is a myth from the old days. As long as the mag was made properly u shouldn't have any problems. It's repeated use that weakens the spring, look on magpuls website it states that the mags can be stored fully loaded. Ur truck sits on its springs for years but it's road use that wears them out.

@scoutsniper811 Well, I never seen tests or done them myself but from machining school i know metal and especially springs have a tolerance of flex and if they are flexed for too long the metal DOES actually deform slightly which makes it weaker and thats where your failure to feed comes in, now people have been arguing this for years, i just wanted to put that out there, that being said the quality of the metal spring counts for something as well, cheap mags vs expensive maybe?

thats nuts, what are you getting into a war or something. Even so you would be better off having like 5 extra .223 or .308 mags and the same for a side arm. Carry extra rounds. it weighs less then a shit ton of mags. If you dont take down whatever your facing with 12 magazines total than you dont need to be shooting at all.

I would get about 45-50 more m-4 mags, since it such a versitile platform. honestly you can have a decent rifle,say a R.R.A. that works awesome then buy some cheap metal mags and say 5 don't feed right you eliminate those 5, you then need to go get 20 more so you are actually assure you that you have stuff that works when you need it to.
