ok, this may sound REALLY stupid, but i had the same prob as you, twice actually (my computer got wiped twice) i had to a project and i needed to record sound, so i went online to get a sound recorder. I found I Sound for Windows 7 (or anything else, mine was win. 7) as soon as that downloaded, i used hyper to record some of my project. Then the stereo mix worked, perfectly. I dun no if it was coincedence, but try and see!
HEY I HAVE THE FREAKIN SAME PROBLEM SIR !! PLEASE HELP ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE !! ...i have enabled the stereo mix and set is as default as well , but when it comes to recording of stereo mix through audacity, it just is blank while recording...(and obviously ive chosen stereo mix as the recording device in audacity as well huh) PLS HELP WE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND I STILL HAVE IS NOT SOLVED PLEASE !! :'( i came here through a website knwn as sevenforums..saw the link to this and all your pc pics
use a wire with regular jack on both sides!! plug it in ur pc select , as headphones , now plug the other end of the wire to another free plug and select as Line-In,,, now in recording devices select line in as default recorder , line-in is now stereo mix :p

I've learn't that this is usually a problem with built in microphones. I know because I'm having the same issue with my laptop.
