you CAN do smaller if you try the thailand method, but I strongly recommend 10 gallons so that you can use it for fill out without having to move your fry, which is stressful.
You could do actual spawning in a 5 gallon ,but then you'll have to get a bigger tank for fill out anyway, so may as well stick with the 10 from the beginning. Breeding bettas takes a TON of space, so, if you don't have it, you'll be disappointed. Females can stay together no problem. Males need to be separated from their sibs. they just have issues. Get yourself some gallon containers for them. Be prepared for fewer males than females, however. "fatness" plays no role. Many fry will be born.
How did you make your sponge filter? I am going to attempt to breed my male and female betta in a few weeks. Does it matter that they have been together in my large community tank for a while? Going to use my old tank to breed them in. Also what plants would you recommend? Can you write back to my channel please?
i have a 15 gal and a light on top the light warms the tank up to like 70-80 degrees will that be ok and also will fake plants be ok and i have a breeding filter an elite not a sponge will that be ok respond plz
Tank and temperature great. Just don't fill it up so that the male gets exhausted going from surface to bottom fetching eggs and fry. Fabric plants are okay, plastic pants you just worry about the fish tearing themselves on. Live plants culture infusoria, which is what the fry will eat for the first week of their lives. You can culture infusoria on a lettuce leaf or something as well. Just do some research to that effect. I highly recommend a sponge filter over anything else.
@nakiaguppy23highway It is possible that your tank heater is to small for the size of your tank. It sounds like u got an auto one...am i right? If that is the case, the size of ur tank is probably the issue. I would suggest getting an adjustable heater, they work much better and it will solve your cold water problem.
@celeberty08 If you are looking for giant females as you put it, all the females I have that are large i got from walmart. NOW i want you to know, that walmart takes HORRIBLE care of their poor bettas. I have rescued 2 males and 2 females from there. 1 male had ick AND finrot and i fixed him. The other was healthy. IF you are able to quarantine them for 2 weeks and know the signs of a healthy fish when you buy, then perhaps if need be look at walmart. Otherwise i would check online or ask around
NO. Significant size differences between sexes will result in serious injury/death for the smaller fish. Try to come up with a pair where the female is SLIGHTLY smaller than the male.
What's the fourth thing on the list the, "Multi-Vitamin enriched Daphnia"? and where can I find that and the Betta Spa conditioner? I couldn't find any at the pet store I normally go to. Please help. Thank you
my betta frys keeping dying on me. I have checked the PH level and amonia level. Can someone plz let me know what I'm doing wrong. They all die with in the 1st to 2nd day.
Hey can u like help me cause I can't tell when my female is conditioned because every time I think she is her stripes show up again so I have to take her out again
You could do the actual spawning in a 2.5, although its VERY squishy. a 10 gallon is ideal. Smaller is a little too small and larger they get lost. It's good to have fill out room for the fry as well, since MANY are born at once.
Not to be random, this was a great video and I'm actually about to start breeding my bettas, BUT This is the song from Disney's "Dinosaur" movie. lol. nice
To the first: I buy mine at a local fish store. If you can't find it, see if you can find it online. Second: any floating live AQUATIC plants will do. Make sure they aren't selling your terrarium plants. Three: ABSOLUTELY. Breeding is a violent, stressful process for which the members involved should be in peak condition. :)
You can do it that way, but my personal experience (and everyone's is different) is that you need a couple of tanks for fill out (one can be your original spawning tank,) floating live plants to culture infusoria which your TEENY fry will eat for the first week or so of life, a heater, a sponge filter, and a hiding place for your poor female. I tried going with the conservative method you described when I began and was disappointed. :(
@TheGreatPickles what do you feed to condition the fishes? and for how long. I brought some Hiriki (spelling is likely wrong) frozen blood worm and I have the following questions:
1) How many bloodworms per day do I feed each Betta.
2) Do you feed them both during the time they are at the tank?
3) I also brought some floting plants just like yours in the video, do you let their long roots hangs?
Usually it's a good idea to separate the males from everyone else at about 2 months of age (sexual maturity) to prevent squabbling that results in poor finnage.
how do u maKE THE DAMN WATER SO CLEAN every time when my betta fry hatch my fish tank dirty like hell fangus every where but that time is too late i can not wash liao
Make sure you have a sponge filter in there. Bettas poop like anything else. That'll dirty the water. Also-stagnant water gets dirty fast and is unhealthy for the fry. Sponge filters are ugly, but the cheapest and safest for your fry. Invest in one in the future! :)
Great video, i would love to spawn a couple of my bettas, i have a lovley halfmoon pair. Thanks for the great info, i cant wait til the next video. Cheers
hey just curious but you didnt add a video where the fry to adult stage =] i love watching them grow^^

Yes. That will be GREAT for fill out. Just make sure to start with a shallow depth so that the pair doesn't loose each other. :)

georgepetlover 1 year ago
Do you raise in the 10 gallon? I do with small spawns but I usually breed them in a 5 gallon and transfer them to a big plastic tub (16.5 gallons).
Also do you have any bettas in stock? I'm currently breeding HMPK dragons but I want to get into blacks and whites.
