  • You didn't teach me anything

  • @raceman888 Lol. Thanks. My other vid has more beginner slide stuff in it. I think it's Slide Guitar 101.

  • great now can u show me some basics. good job

  • Thanks, Rev. I'm glad it helped!

  • Dude, yar the first to get it to click for me... thank you!

  • you're pretty good with slide. cool video... And great tone !

  • @LeJo82 thanks! I appreciate it.

  • @LeJo82 thanks! I appreciate it.

  • this is so awesome

  • good tone man!

  • Thanks a lot, this is killer.

  • Is that slide one of the ones from Rocky Mountain Slide co. ? I have one, I should do a video with it. I love the tone of it.

  • No, it's actually a Dunlop pyrex. The white is adhesive mailing label on the inside to keep it from being slippery. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • i tuned my classic to this and it worked perfectly :D hope you make more videos soon,... Greeting from Egypt :D

  • Thanks for checking it out. I'm hoping to do more vids eventually... just been super busy lately.

  • awesome tone ... is it standard tuning? ... whats the guitar? ..Paul reed smith by the looks of it

  • Thanks! Its in open E. That guitar is actually a Dean Evo that I nabbed for $75 lol. The pickups and hardware are Carvin.

  • nice slidin. just got mine yesterday. wish me luck with it

  • Thanks! You'll pick this stuff up in no time.

  • what tuning is it?

  • Open E. High to low - EBG#EBE

  • Wouldn't that be an open EM7 then? Or do you mean A instead of G#.

  • Nope.

    The major 3rd of E is G#.

An A would make it an Esus4, and to get an Em7, you would need a minor 3rd (G) and you'd have to add a flat 7 (D), an E M7 would be the major 3rd (still G#), and a dom 7 (D#).

This tuning is the same as if you were fingering a regular ol' 1st position E major chord. You sharp the A and D a whole step, and the G a half step. So, high to low, E B G# E B E.

    Thanks.

  • Hey mate, nice stuff.

    inspirational.

Could you recomend some blues guiraists that use this sort of overdrive blues slide guitar?

    Cheers

  • Thanks!

Check out Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes (So, check out the Allman Brothers, too, obviously--especially most recent live album "One Way Out" and the classic "At Fillmore East"--which brings you to Duane Allman).

I like Joe Walsh's slide work, too, though it's different that this.

Thanks for checking it out. I'll hit back if more pop into my head.

  • heyyy nice playin;; this is the first time ive heard anything like this, and ive played guitar for a long time... what do you use on ur finger? ive heard that it's a bottle neck, but yours look like you wrapped something on your finger... thanks! gj!!

  • It's just a Dunlop glass slide. It's a thick-walled one. The white stuff is peel and stick address label on the inside to keep my finger dry and keep me from slinging the slide across the room.

I also use the Dunlop Moonshine slide, which is glazed porcelain. It's more fitting on acoustic, but it adds a nice resonance on electric, too. It's a bit mellower than the glass.

Thanks for the comments, and for watching!

  • ooo

nice nice how much is it?

  • The glass ones are a few bucks, the moonshine slide was about $14, I think.

  • oooo thank you a brunch! :D

  • you really can play - gets me all wound up hearing slide played like that. Great job

  • Thank you so much! I've been meaning to expand on this, but I haven't had a chance lately. Check back every once in a while. Thanks again!

  • Love your stuff -- would like to know more about the right hand and how to pick -- also recommended guitar strings/gauge

    Thanks!

  • For strings (slide only, though), I really like Dean Markley Nickel-steel Electric 11-52, cause they have a wound 3rd. They come with a plain 3rd, too, but I like the tone of the wound. Derek Trucks uses DR Pure Blues, and I might try those soon, supposedly mellower than nickel.

  • Ran out of room lol. For right hand, I use my fingers when playing slide. This allows me to mute strings that I'm not playing so there's not a lot of extra string noise, etc. My thumb handles the top 2 or 3 strings, and pretty much my index and middle for the rest, depending on where I'm playing. You'll see above that there are times my thumb is on the higher strings, and vise versa. I basically try to minimize movement and keep noise down. Thanks for wathcing!

  • hey man i just wanted to say that was awesome, i'm like tyler, i just started playing slide recently and i understand what your saying about understanding the theory behind what your doing...but it really would help if you could post a version of you doing those licks at half speed or something.

but even if you don't i still enjoyed the video and i'm gonna start working on the riffs

  • I probably don't even play anything the same twice lol, but I will eventually get another vid up here that goes a bit more into the details of certain techniques so you can dive deeper into it. Thanks for the feedback!

  • thanks, i look forward to it

  • your good but how about actually maybe explaining some of the licks.. ive been playing guitar for like 6 years started playing slide maybe 4 months ago ive been teaching myself in standard cause i feel like if i can do it that way i can do it ne way... but derek trucks is my fav so i figured id give the open E thing a whirl.. how about some actual riff explination maybe your fav licks or the ones that derek uses the most ne thing

  • I explained a couple of them. I was hoping that by seeing both hands everyone would be able to pick up on the simpler ones. If you've been playing for 6 years, you should know your minor pents. Just takes those, and readjust them for open E tuning (the notes on the A and D strings will move back 2 frets, and the notes on the G string back 1--since these are now not A, D and G, but B, E, and G#, respectively).

    Hope that helps a bit.

  • kick ass man! thanks for the advice.

  • dude, thats fuckin goooood

  • Love it, I play slide too acoustic, seeing this has made me want to g change the action on my electric and get into it

  • Hell yeah man, gotta go dust my guitar and slide off

  • dude i cannot believe you havent more comments on you video than what you have, i dont know much about playing the blues but i do love to listen to the blues and i love listening to what you play i'll certainly add you as a favourite, that was a pleasure to listen to ty

  • Thanks to both of you. I actually just posted this a couple of weeks ago. I'll try to keep 'em coming.

  • fuckin sick, dude.
