Aretha doesn't need to hop up and down on the stage to get attention (she's 66 years old now). Not everyone is into that. Aretha is 1st and foremost a musician. Her voice is her art. By and large, most of the best black female singers are not these small, waif girls. How unfortunate it is that video has taught people that looks are more important than actual talent. Actually, everyone this IS VERY covered up compared to some of the evening wear she used to wear. At one point Chakka Khan went thru the same "image" problem as she used to be "stacked" and got HUGE when she had her children. The harem pants and belly dancing outfits just didn't work anymore! LOL. My guess is that they sought advice from an image consultant and finally got it together!! God Bless then both!! She was on. Opened with Jackie Wilson's Higher & Higher and didn't stop; she killed me when she sang AIN'T NO WAY. To me, that was my highlight. Sang most of her Atlantic hits, threw in gospel, and an excellent version of MY FUNNY VALENTINE, which was my second favorite of the evening. Her voice, all I can say is the girl still has it. Got the crowd going with Chain of Fools, Think and, of course, R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Wonderful evening. Last say her in the early 80's at beverly Theater in L.A.
