One thing I'd look into is possibly upping your hosting package fi you can. It seems to run a little slow for myself and some others but apart from that, great work chaps.
iWeb is closed, proprietary, locked-in and quite difficult or impossible to make plug-ins work with it. Almost as bad as MS FrontPage.
Wordpress is completely open, a recognised standard CMS, unlimited theming options and can be made to do more or less anything, plenty of plug-ins.
Writing a good beautiful looking Wordpress theme takes a lot of time, skill and talent. It's much easier to buy a theme in, and modify it to ones requirements.
Yes but they took weeks to get this out, buying a theme and editing it to this extent doesn't take weeks. Or it shouldn't anyway.
As for WordPres being open and iLife not being so. Absolutely true. But Mac users are always bragging about how good iLife, including iWeb is. Why not use it then? Unless it isn't.
didnt the tortise win the race? why rush something or get to just how we wanted it? we didnt want to put out crap..we wanted blogs, and blog writers and all other techinal stuff straight before publishing.
iWeb is nice. not what we wanted though. we have used iweb and it has been very sufficient, but in light of our being on YouTube for one year we decided to switch to Wordpress something better and more professional
Some of iLife 09 is quite good, I sometimes use iMovie to quickly create movies for YouTube. Because it's the easiest application I've found to do this. Plus I've used GarageBand to do some podcasting and audio activities, again because it suits my needs. Don't use the other iLife applications though.
Creating a web site with iWeb is putting ones self into a dead end. Much better indeed to use Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla or similar.
iWeb is very basic, very very basic. It's good enough for a simple site but if you're doing anything like these guys are then it's just too limited. Wordpress is a very versitile and widely used foundation and because so many use it there are thousands of extra plugins and themse for it that let you customise it and take use of the power of the platform. It's like going from Notepad to Dreamweaver.
I'd rather stick with Notepad than a monstrosity like Dreamweaver, unless I were only using the latter for code completion and previewing, rather than its horrid WYSIWYG editor.
Can you do a tutorial on how to make a website like that

That's awesome! Can you do a tip on switching from iWeb to Wordpress or give a small tutorial on how to use Wordpress?

If OS X and iLife and such is so amazing, why did you switch from iWeb to WordPress? And why didn't you write your own theme?

BTW I use Windows and Macs here.

Writing our theme would take time to learn how to do that. so we hired a professional developer to tweak the theme a tad.

They bought the theme and WordPress is an open source blog engine. It's shocking it took them this long to get it out, :\.
manjyoumethunder 2 years ago
Let's see you do it then. Making the site is simple and fast enough, coming up with good quality content to put on it is a different matter entirely.
TalesOfWar 2 years ago
Well, they already had a site made with iWeb, did they not? Didn't they already have some kind of content with which to fill it?
