I bought 3 Ponies from where I work. I got Fluttershy, Applejack and Cupcake. No one said a word to me. Even the Self-Scan lady saw me with them and didn't say anything. I got Rarity at Wal-Mart. Lady at the checkout didn't say anything either. No one has yet to question my bronyness. Even my mom is okay with it.

As a MLP fan I find this kind of embarrassing at some times. I'm one of those girls that's into things for the nostalgia, mainly because I grew off My little Pony and Rainbow Bright when I was little, but I also love cute things. When they started selling MLP shirts at Hottopic , I got one as a gift from my friend.

@jongyon7192p There are quite a few examples of this, though CoyoteZach was made up. There's nothing wrong with liking MLP. In fact, I have fond memories when FiM had very few locations where it appeared, and the fans were all encompassing and understanding, and not the psychotic passive aggressive, Orbital Friendship Cannon type.

when i was a little kid, i used to watch the older MLP series, i liked the series because it intrested me as a kid. notice i say as a kid. when compared to the new version of the show, i think it's well animated, and doesn't focus on feeding morals to the viewer every 10 seconds, as older children's shows used to before everything became 15 minute sit downs about fake life lessons. the show isn't all that bad in my opinion, but the community that drools over it is batshit retarded.

I watched a few episodes just to see what all the ruckus was about. The way I see it, it's on the line between an okay show, and a good one. It's nothing particularly special and I can't see myself marking out over it like some do, but I didn't find it BAD.
I's not really a big deal when this mistake applies to, well, a kid's show, I'm taking the time to write this because it's a deeply rooted, but terribly wrong thinking.The root of most of the discrimination, the root of the hate between so many people in the world for stupid reasons, not only religious and tribal wars, but also, for example, policemen : good cops don't get noticed, but ***holes are a lot more troublesome with power. And this is why I keep my brony-ness mostly to myself outside of Ponychan. Sure, I'll have a pony avatar or two here and there on unrelated forums, but that's it. I'm not inclined to go out and buy any of the toys, because I feel that's where I need to draw the line with this interest. I also never bring up FiM outside the internet because even if people were okay with it, they would eventually get uncomfortable with me constantly talking about it.
The problem here isn't only bronies, it's a natural, but terribly wrong human behavior. Whenever you're not part of any kind of community, you always notice the ones who, well, make themselves noticed, obviously. In this case, we only notice those with an unhealthy obsession, which lead us to think they're all insane freaks. Many people genuinely like it without shame nor obsession, but because of that, you can't possibly notice them and assume they're a minority.

I bought 3 Ponies from where I work. I got Fluttershy, Applejack and Cupcake. No one said a word to me. Even the Self-Scan lady saw me with them and didn't say anything. I got Rarity at Wal-Mart. when i was a little kid, i used to watch the older MLP series, i liked the series because it intrested me as a kid. notice i say as a kid. when compared to the new version of the show, i think it's well animated, and doesn't focus on feeding morals to the viewer every 10 seconds, as older children's shows used to before everything became 15 minute sit downs about fake life lessons. the show isn't all that bad in my opinion, but the community that drools over it is batshit retarded.

It's a psychological thing. There are two types of pride - authentic pride... and hubristic pride, which is very commonly seen in groups of people. Anyhow, it is true. If it weren't for 4chan, it would only have a fanbase akin to that of Thomas the Train Engine. I remember when once in a while, something MLP related would pop up. Now, you see it everywhere, be it looking up bootlegged games or porn videos.

@LuwiigiMaster Ok so the fact that the people who worked on the show worked on other good cartoons didn't influence its popularity, nope it was just 4chan. Yes, 4chan did influence a big part of the popularity with older fans, but everyone I know watched it because it was the same person who worked on PPG and Foster's Home (myself included). I imagine it could have become just as popular even without 4chan's help.
