This video is a triumph of economic ignorance. Does anyone think, for instance, that the management of a large company, in regards to their engineers, chemists, administrators or what have you will say: "starting today, you'll be paid regardless of your performance. I want you guys to be rendering your services out of LOVE, not profit!"
And the idea that getting rid of testing is gonna, what, get rid of poor performance? It's lunacy, and will do no more than wipe problems under the rug. You'll have a bunch of teachers that are paid to do no more than go to school, AND there will be no way to assess the awful performance of these schools. This "solution" seems to me equivalent to the idea that we'll combat theft by making no money and burning all we have, therefore no-one will have the incentive to rob us.
well let's address the problem , one can ace a test and still be dumb out on the streets. Success isn't necessarily equatable with testing just means you test well, now show me what you do not what you know.
@tanio12 "now show me what you do not what you know"
I can't even make sense of what you just barked. Re ace a test and be dumb in the streets: if the world was up to me, my guess is that education would have a lot more to do with what one needs to survive in terms of opening a business, getting and holding on to a job, finances, practical skills, etc. BUT, in the absence of such, it is better for a student to be tested for math & reading than nothing at all.
Excellent. The questions remain of what are our children being tested for, what is this standard that WE have set for them, what real tests in life will these tests prepare them for in life, what sense of obligation and duty and understanding of their power and its proper application in service to our community will they feel as a result of these test which lead them to confuse memorizing with thinking? Our burning desire to be validated by others is destroying the minds of our children.
@mwalimubaruti Our validation by others is certainly at the base of this problem for us. We must have assessments that assess the characteristics we desire in our children, not what someone else feels they should have. Thanks for being an inspiration Baba Baruti.
We also dont think about the fact that a Standardized test is an Assesment of Basic Skills. So what you are telling me is that these kids cant Read, Write, or compute Math on a basic level. The problem goes way beyond the test. What are you being paid for if these kids dont have basic skills?? They need to take out the calculators before 4th grade, teach REAL Phonic, and have Conversations about Real Literature.
I am in the Atlanta area and I feel sorry for our children who are being done a diservice in these government schools. That i why we homeschool ours. These past 2yrs I have seen the amount of homeschoolers of colors increase at our state Homeschool Convention compared to previous years. Its amazing that it has to get this bad for us to see the light but I am just grateful for the ones who are waking up and seeing the truth about government schools.

No, because that policy would be retarded.
