This was Doctor Who to me, my first memory (Not just of Doctor Who, but of life in general) was of a McCoy backing up to a locked door as a strange, terrifying alien creature hovered up the stairs towards him screaming death and destruction. Even as a kid, I knew that despite the thing had a gun, and could destroy planets in seconds, that this strange little man with the umbrella would stop them and save Earth without even breaking a sweat.
I am not a fan of the seventh Doctor but the BBC starved the show by reducing the budget and didnt give the program any real support. I hope that someday he will be able to reprise the role in a future special or something.
@death2utubenow But, McCoy DID reprise the role. He's been playing the Seventh for years now in the audio dramas of Doctor Who done by Big Finish. And they're fantastic. Quality stuff, right there.
Plus, the BBC says they don't discredit them from canon, so you very much can consider them canonical.
"Somewhere there’s danger, somewhere there’s injustice, and somewhere else the tea’s getting cold. Come on, Ace. We’ve got work to do". My appreciation for 7 (and Sylvester McCoy) grows with each passing year. His performance was so masterful, subtle and deep. And he was witty as all get out. Love him...and this ex excellently done vieo! :D
Brilliantly done! Loved this! I kinda thought of something like this hearing this song in Heavy Metal. I miss 7 and other old school Who actors. Russell's version of Doctor Who was good but not great. =/ Seeing Matt Smith and Steven Moffat's combination heading back to the old school Who made me happy. ^^ It also made me see that 9 and 10 were going through the stages of grief (anger and depression) and 11 is acceptance and therefore going back to his old personality, and less human mannerism.
It;s true what the other commentators here are saying about the last couple of Sylv stories, they were incredible, it must be said that I have always liked the seventh Dr best, but the 8th is not to be underestimated, he packs in some pretty blinding performances on audio dramas.
Absolutely beautiful video, and a perfect song. Such a sad ending, what a terrible way to go. I'm torn though; from a storytelling perspective, it's especially fitting that the seventh Doctor had such meaningless 'death'... but since he's one of my favorite Doctors, I can't help feeling he deserved better!
i loved the 7th doctor more than all the others becuase he was really mysterious and had a sense of eccentric electrical madness about him more so than even the 4th doctor and thats saying a lot. Plus he had a sense of humour that was infectious, sylveste mccoy really brought a blend of human and very alien aspects to the doctor who role. the problem with the new series is that the doctor is much too human (except for the eleventh doctor matt smith) the 9th and tenth doctors were way too human.
@doctorw2 - I couldn't agree with you more. I despaired at RTD for the road he took the 9th and 10th Doctors, especially the 10th. I mean, he emo'd the 10th Doc, not thinking that his depression was self-inflicted and therefore just unattractive rather than symapthetic, and then he intro'd a Parallel Universe Doc just to please the Rose/10thDoc fans which was downright blasphemy when it comes to the Doctor.
Thank God for Stephen Moffatt and Matt Smith's portrayal. I love Dr Who again
@IDIOTdella The thing is though, the only work he has at the moment really is SJA and Tourchwood still, other projects he wanted to do last year were turned down by people who approuched him for stuff which is quiet funny!
@JoeConcerts - I have to give credit to RTD for the creation of Torchwood. I thought the first season was outstanding and really interesting, but like his 'known' projects RTD ruined it. I only watched a couple of the second season because it became clear to me very early on that the focus had changed from the Torchwood Institute to Captain Jack - and when I took a looksee later on, he then managed to not only ruin the program but the Jack character as well. Grrrrrr!
@doctorw2 I absulutly agree!!!! He is my favorite, every performance of him was excellent even when the story was a bit off (other examples include Tom Baker in The power of kroll). Eccleston was a bit too working class and Tennant was just a desperate emo, although he was quiet good though.
Matt Smith is the best of new who despite his young age, and the 2011 series looks too exciting.
@JoeConcerts i am a matt smithaholic i love him so much he is so cool! but, i hope the rumours about him leaving after series six isnt true becuase......oh god im starting to bubble :(
@doctorw2 I don't think thats true. Smith denied it, and its unlike him don't you think to betray fans like that if he denied and then left. He'll probaly be around at least until the 50th anniversary, which is excellent.
thank you so much for this gorgeous clip. what a treat to revisit my childhood. reminded me not just of the episodes, but of the excitement i felt watching them the first time around.
@TheDunHorse Indeed... Especially since Sylvester McCoy has said that ther ewas so much heat from the explosion he thought there'd been nothing left of the the back of his clothes...
...But then again Sylvester McCoy, for me, was pretty much a Legend as the 7th Doctor anyhoo, as was Sophie Aldred as Ace :-)
I thought 7 was far more dark and mysterious, bordering on sinister at times, than the pretty abyssmal 8, 9 & 10. Nothing against the actors, it's just their Doctors really aren't my cup of tea, especially 9 & 10
Actually 8 was much the same as 9 & 10 as well, simply because of what the numbskulls introduced (Half-Human and British LMFAO!!) and that the Doctor saw his companion as bit of scrumpy and could have his end away with them.
Ludicrous and even more so when RTD decided to continue in that vein with the 10th Doctor.
I'm very sorry I haven't got back to those whom have left such lovely comments here. Not long after my last reply my world went kaplooey in the most upsetting of ways. Within a couple of months my wonderful Mother-In-Law, My awesome Dad and a very young cousin of 29 years died.,,
..So it's been a pretty hard time for me and my family of which we're all still trying to come to terms with it all.
Anyway, your comments have been a Godsend and very much appreicated indeed.
If I won the Lotto, I would seriously consider contacting the Old Crew/Stars to ask them if they wouldn't mind doing a Story for charity, resuming from where it left off.
Sylvester's Doctor is SO MUCH more Dark & Sinister than any of the new Doctors. (If you can call the New Series Dr Who at all)
I can honestly say that the last couple of Stories were some of the best of DW ever! Fenric is just stupendous! Survival is Rich & Atmospheric, Greatest Show was Creepy & the Daleks moved up Stairs! lol
My sister sent me this. Superb video & fitting song choice as well--very angsty and a bit haunting sounding to me. You did an excellent job matching the clips to the lyrics! Well done; I've faved it =D
Very nice video! I love #7 also. Your comment about the 10th being a wet blanket is funny. He's not bad in my book, but the 10th is not the 7th! The whole new series is way to "clever" for its own good. It is often akin to a soap opera. RTD just couldn't help himself. I would love to see Ace meet Rose. "Oi Professor, who's the princess giving you the googly eyes? Want me to give her a Nitro9 boot out of the TARDIS?"
Secondly, flaming 'eck, you nearly made me wet my panties with laughter with your comment about what Ace would say to the Doc if she ever met Rose. LMFAO! Brilliant bit of commentary and accurate to boot.
Honestly? I really don't understand the kind of wankfest that goes on over RTD. I detest what he's done to the Doctor... AND to the program too. Bring back the mystery and oh GOD! the subtlety too.
Thanks ever so much for your lovely comment, wiccagirl24. Very much appreciated indeed :-)
I was aiming for this vid to have a sad undertone to it all because 7th's demise was incredibly sad, in a heartbreaking way, but also sad in a pathetic, complete waste kind of way too.
To be brutally honest, I think the way 7 was killed would serve the 10th Doctor better because I find that Doctor to be a complete and utter wet blanket, so being killed in such a wasteful way would suit him to a tee.
Was wondering could you do a music video with the Second, Sixth and Seventh Doctor in, since they are my top 3 Doctor's (Seven is 1st place of course).
I'm afraid to say that I don't have any Sixth or Second episodes to work from. Many apologies.
To be honest though I should really think about getting some Sixth ones at least because he's my third favourite Doctor, William Hartnell's Doctor being my second favourite.
I've never really seen the connection between the two if I'm honest. I would say that the 2nd Doctor was mischevious, whereas the 7th was playful when it came to the comedy moments.
And everything else? Well, the 7th was far more darker and mysterious by the end of his tenure than the 2nd.
IN all honesty, I think the only thing the 2nd Doctor and the 7th shared, above all the other Doctors that is, was that they were of similar height. *shrug* Sorry...
Yes I would agree the 7th was much more darker than the 2nd. I reckon 7 was the darkest out of all the Doctor's, and thats one of the reasons why I like 7 so much.
I now wish Sylvester had held out another 7 years before doing the regeneration scene because I reckon any other regeneration scene would have been far more logical, and therefore superior, than the one in the Movie.
...And I still wish that the BBC hierarchy of the time had managed to pull their heads from their arses and given Sylv and Sophie another Season.... at the very least!!!!
I really hat it when Seven gets shot in the TV Movie. Its such a shame he had such a small role in it. His last words was him screaming "argghhh". I think Seven's death in "Death Comes To Time is much better.
