The only recorded history of white slavery was during the conquest of the mores and during the time of the Roman empire and the Romans enslaved EVERYBODY blacks, whites, Persians it didn't matter if you were conquered you ended up a slave. I believe the rant is perfectly valid and based in fact. However, when it comes to all things, I still believe that anger is the greatest enemy. It is natural and I don't judge anyone's anger, but real change only comes through forgiveness and peace. I'll also note that I think Mr. White Guy is just as angry, but neglects to be as honest about it.
it definitely seems that way when viewing just this part of the video, but after seeing the documentary it becomes clear that David (the white guy) just doesn't know about the things that Victor talks about. Eventually David discusses how his whole life he has sort of filtered out all of these bad things, not out of selfishness, not out of disgust for another race, but because it hurts him to see that he lives in a world where people do these things to each other.
It's more complicated than this. Calling America "red ground" implies that all natives were unified, but there was frequent war and exploitation among tribes. In Africa, enslaved people were sold to Euros by Africans. All peoples have been oppressive, what is unique about modern Euros is how great the techno power gap has been bet them and the rest of the world and the scale and depth of ensuing exploitation. White privilege, yes. Unique white evil, no. Racism and exploitation is everywhere.

@TaylorPride2010 Before European conquest, Africa has a long history of internal conquest. Egypt and Ethiopia were empires, conquering and enslaving surrounding peoples. There were many Islamic empires in north and central Africa. The Wolof Empire in what is now Senegal lasted 500 years and there were classes including slaves. There are many more examples in African and Americas. Most powerful societies did to others what Europeans did more recently on a wider scale.

I think there is truth in both of their statements. The fact that America is white dominated is an advantage for the whites. However it is true that we are all our own men. The white guy reminds me of a couple of my classmates, they just don't get how lucky they are (status wise). I remember in one of my 300 level classes, and we were discussing black history month and one of them asked "Why isn't there a white history month?" To which I replied, "Every other month is white history month!"

My point is that I am aware of past crimes, but I have no control over what has happened. I have control of the here and now, and I approach every person indifferently of what race they are. I don't believe in giving anyone more or less opportunity because that in itself is racism.

it all has to do with resource acquirement and little to do with race though racism underlies it. racially we developed to live best on our landbases, but when we became 'civilized' through agricultural it became a world of competition and resource acquirement. this has EVERYTHING to do with what's discussed above and even the other ethnicities probably don't know it. everyone in that room, now, lives in that system that is inherently exploitative and so are part of it each to the same degree.

I believe the rant is perfectly valid and based in fact. However, when it comes to all things, I still believe that anger is the greatest enemy. It is natural and I don't judge anyone's anger, but real change only comes through forgiveness and peace. It's more complicated than this. Calling America "red ground" implies that all natives were unified, but there was frequent war and exploitation among tribes. In Africa, enslaved people were sold to Euros by Africans. All peoples have been oppressive, what is unique about modern Euros is how great the techno power gap has been bet them and the rest of the world and the scale and depth of ensuing exploitation. White privilege, yes. Unique white evil, no. Racism and exploitation is everywhere.

@TaylorPride2010 Before European conquest, Africa has a long history of internal conquest. Egypt and Ethiopia were empires, conquering and enslaving surrounding peoples. There were many Islamic empires in north and central Africa. The Wolof Empire in what is now Senegal lasted 500 years and there were classes including slaves. There are many more examples in African and Americas. Most powerful societies did to others what Europeans did more recently on a wider scale.

But if in condemning these actions, we idealize the rest of the world, and pretend that no one else is capable of such evil, only Western christian capitalists, then we are being naive. @cperrius obviously all the evil that exists in the world is not solely due to whites, I think stating that would be naive and irrational. You will find good and evil in all men of all races- every sort of evil does not have a white hand hitting the "go" button, so to speak. My point was that these particular evils, that has caused the world to be in a state of the privileged few vs. the non-privileged many is due to European conquest and expansion. This, has shaped our world entirely today.

I think there is truth in both of their statements. The fact that America is white dominated is an advantage for the whites. However it is true that we are all our own men. Many whites are disadvantaged more so than black society as a whole. I understand being angry to see advantaged people acting like they struggle is the same as someone who is disadvantaged. However if I constantly concerned myself with the fact that the rich live better than me I'd go crazy. Make the best of right now.

The white guy reminds me of a couple of my classmates, they just don't get how lucky they are (status wise). I remember in one of my 300 level classes, and we were discussing black history month and one of them asked "Why isn't there a white history month?" To which I replied, "Every other month is white history month!"

This just creates MORE racism than before if nothing else. It doesn't solve anything, and instead, makes people look for acts committed against them in life. Everyone has things happen to them; it is an unfair world. I'm not belittling racism. It's wrong in every way, but it isn't EVERYWHERE. This type of action just creates an 'Us versus Them' mentality that doesn't benefit anyone in the end. (I'm half hispanic/half white -- I say this for no reason, just putting it out there.)

That would be a racist statement too, for the same reason.
Saying that racism is institutionalized, even when it's true, doesn't make that racism any less an individual philosophy held by individual people, and to attribute a philosophical belief to someone's skin color is false (and racist by definition).
Thomas Sowell wrote a great book destroying a wide variety of racist stereotypes and raising this type of issue. It's called Black Rednecks and White Liberals.

it all has to do with resource acquirement and little to do with race though racism underlies it. racially we developed to live best on our landbases, but when we became 'civilized' through agricultural it became a world of competition and resource acquirement. this has EVERYTHING to do with what's discussed above and even the other ethnicities probably don't know it. everyone in that room, now, lives in that system that is inherently exploitative and so are part of it each to the same degree.

Instead, whites blame all the problems of communities of color ON people of color, and preach the "personal responsibility" speech and hardly ever practicing it! People are taught to be complacent with the way things are and when someone who isn't complacent draws any attention to any issue related to what they are expected to be complacent with, BOOM...out come the labels that are intended to denote negative connotation and in turn keep others from realizing that the issue is real and valid.
