@tonyesque That's because the cast recording is of the Los Angeles cast. Judy Kuhn was the original U.S. Betty, but got pregnant before the show transferred from Los Angeles to Broadway and was replaced by Alice Ripley.
because of the nature of the touring mansion set being on scissor lifts, the rampster setpiece had to be modified. as illustrated in one of your videos, the only thing that could fit under the mansion set now was the narrow pool staircase setpiece and the middle section of artie's apartment. the rest was taken up by the scissor lift mechanisms underneath the mansion which in reality could only lift the mansion 7.5 feet off the floor. i'll send you a megaupload download link for the article.
Ah, yes, those long and tall stairs I've seen in the other productions; "rampsters." Oh, well, no huge lost.
Christ, it was so awkward reading that article. So naive. The bragging about making the set "movable" and having the tour go on until 2000... In reality, the whole affair shut down in less than year. Such a shame, the tour had arguably the best cast (screw the "name" talent.)
How high did the mansion lift in the "stationary" productions?
Yes, I noticed the same thing between the scores of "Cats" and Song & Dance". Sometimes I wonder if ALW does it intentionally to see if his diehard fans will point it out to him...or maybe it's just we noticing his style throughout different works....kinda like when you can tell a song is by The Beatles even if you've never heard that particular song before.
When Alice Ripley screams "PLEEASE CAN YOU TELL ME WHATS HAPPENING" I about die, she is so incredible

Does anyone know why Alice isn't on the cast recording of this? She IS the original Betty...so why isn't she on the recording?

Norma's face back from her heyday. It's clearer in my Linda Balgord video.

Where are the steps in which he walks down and falls in the pool, are they on stage ?

Yes, when Norma growls "I'm the greatest star of them all," the set rises a few feet and the steps slide out.

in an entertainment design article for the 1st us tour, that particular deleted setpiece was called the "rampsters".

Deleted? I thought the 1st US Tour utilized them as well!

I don't see ("hear") it...
HouseOnSunset 3 years ago
The three notes. Low, high, mid. The exact same three notes in Phantom durring the titlesong. The lyrics are "For now I find (the phantom...)"
seansuth 3 years ago
OMG I heard it, you are right!!! It is the da DAh dah da...
I don't know if that makes any sense but regardless I heard it ^^
Feareous 3 years ago
Oh, come on, people! It's just three notes. I'm sure it's a coincidence.
HouseOnSunset 3 years ago
I'm not making a big deal of it, after all (If we are talking about POTO and not Phantom) ALW wrote both so of course there would be similarities...
