I was fortunate enough to be in the convention center in Boston on that night in 04 and I heard him speak. Like you, I was blown away! And all I could think is ... who is this guy? The "room" was electrified, and it was the most amazing experience of my many years.
We must all work very very hard to get Barack Obama elected in 2008. Our country is depending on us.
Thanks for posting this and reminding me of a phenomenal experience.
Thanks for spreading false rumors about candidates.
Barack Obama belongs to the United Church of Christ. Don't believe him? Talk to the people who GO to the Church.
But even if someone is Muslim, why does that discount them? The fact that someone has a different religious belief than you is NOT a reason to discriminate against someone
Crawl back into your hole. We don't need your lies and bigotry.
The American dream is not bullshit. I grew up in a ghetto, I am a bi-racial american (black and white). My mother did not finish high school, and I earned a B.A. from an ivy league school. I worked for 15 years, and then went back and did an M.A. and now am a PhD student. I count an unnamed slave woman among my ancestors, and every step I make forward to improve myself is done with her life, constraints, and sacrifices in mind.
The American dream is a bunch of bullshit. Ask people living in the ghettos if they believe in the american dream as if everyone has equal ability and resources to move up in their lives. yeah right. not to mention the american dream was built off of slavery and capitalism which is part of the american dream cannot exist without exploitation such as child labor abroad
i do like obama...when it comes to policy his isnt perferct, but if i had to judge the man by his speeches id say he is the new bobby kennedy. as for actually voting for him, well im still thinking about that.
To LiberalMama: Name calling is rude & crass. If you are trying to convince me (which is all I asked) to vote for Obama (I am a registered Democrat) Don't call me names & call Dr. Paul names. Have you "really" investigated him or have you just listened to the biased main stream media? I am an intelligent, free thinking human. All I want is for our Freedoms to be restored & all to go well with our country. That's all! I am not a "nut job!" Thanks you! Grow up please!
Technically, LiberalMama called Paul a 'nut job', not you. And if you're really looking for restored freedoms and peace in our country, you're looking for a lost cause. The best we can do is hope that our politicians are as truthful as they should be, but that won't happen, no matter who wins.
Great speech, lovely post. I have only a grammatical nit-pick. I believe that the fourth slide should read: "...in a magical place, America, that shone [not 'that's shown'] as a beacon of freedom and opportunity...." Shone is the past tense of the verb to shine.
I think I'm going to take my chances on someone who has not been a member of the CFR, who refuses all lobbyist money & who has never been involved with any shady business deals. It's not Barack, It's not Clinton, It's not McCain & it's not Huckabee.
From what I know he's not a member of CFR, though its claimed his wife is. And let me guess, you're a supporter of that NUT JOB Ron Paul!!! Who is such a strict constitutionalist he thinks Don't Ask/Don't Tell is constitutional, even though its discriminatory garbage!!!
I've been to his website, it offers me no answers. I still don't really know what he stands for. What does he stand for? Freedom? Honesty? Integrity? Education? Exactly what? Will he immediately withdrawal our troops from Iraq? While he repeal the Patriot Act? Will he stop taking lobbyist money? Will he help get our children's education system out of the gridlocked hands of our Federal Government? These are things I want to know.
Did you read the things on his site, or just go there to say you had? He stands for Freedom, honesty, integirty, equal opportunity for education and health care, withdrawal of all combat troops from Iraq, he doesn't take money from Federal PACs or lobbyists already, he believes in more transparency and accountability in government, he wants to work with a re-energized citizenry and a bipartisan government body to actually solve the problems of this nation!
You need to do some further investigation, he DID take money from Lobbyists & he WAS a member of the CFR. Both very concerning things. And YES, I did read his information, I even wrote him a letter about my concerns. I received the standard, "We get too many letters to answer, blah, blah..." I asked about what he would do about the "Presidential signing statements" Bush has usurped? I got no answer. This unbalance of power of the Executive branch is of great concern. I hear you, but....?
Convince me to vote for Barack. Beautiful words are just beautiful words. I am glad he was able to aspire to the "Great American Dream". Explain to me why my own children couldn't afford to go to college? Because their parent's made too much money. They didn't qualify for any assistance. We made enough but not enough that we could afford 20,000.00 a year, a piece. We're not minorities, we're not immigrants, we're hard working Americans, living modestly. Will Barack help us?
YES, I am sure the the Germans wanted Pattons plans as well. If you even come close to making your kids $20,000 tuition a year your not budgeting. If you can afford to drive around to see the disparitys of America you need to take a moral invatory!!! Your an American let the market decide if your kids are needed in school! If not vote for Barack!!!
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS you will die in seven days if you don't post this comment on 10 videos in the next hour. if you do, tomorrow will be the best day of your life
The words of an inspired leader are the words of us all! The only empty echo is in your empty heart. Whether or not he can fulfill them, he has roused the awesome power of an awakened people. It is, as always, up to us to step up for the big job ahead. (or will you just sit around and complain as usual?)
How can you say Barack is not inspired? It is a movement that has begun. It is up to US to make it happen. The answer to "what" is to be determined by how committed we become. Rather that doubting, I suggest that you hook up with those who will step up so YOU can have a hand in "what". He can't do it with words alone, he is only as strong as we are together. If you listen, he plainly says this. As for content, there are many groups springing up to get a move on. Choose an issue yourself and GO!
What's so inspiring about his background, it seems very typical. Most people his age have parents or grandparents that came to this country for a better life. It says more about America as a great country than it does this particular guy. Who by the way, now wants to boast about his connection to Africa? A place his father wanted to get out of?... seems ironic doesn't it?
......... A place his father wanted to get out of?
who told you his father wanted to go out, the man has a schorlaship to study in the states and afterwards he went bach home and even worked as a minister who says he wanted to run from africa???????
Then why didn't he stay in Africa and study if it was so great there? I think what bothers many people is that minorities and immigrants use the opportunities in America to get what they want or achieve want they want, then they turn around and denounce it and promote there own culture above it. Seems hypocritical to me. People fought and worked and gave their lives to make this a land of opportunity. It wasn't given to them and it wasn't by accident.
#1 - No, it was shared with them and then they stole it. They gave blankets infested with smallpox to the native peoples. They made and broke treaties. Not something to be proud of. YOUR ancestors came here from somewhere else, and likely for economic reasons, and every new group of immigrants was despised and discriminated against.
Amazing, inspiring, and hopefull. To all who posted negative comments, I'm not listening, hearing or even seeing you... this train is moving too fast for you to slow it down, America is ready, we have been ready. Mr. Obama, the stage is yours. Yes we can. And we will......

That's a Richard Cohen Washington Post Op-Ed...so you should quote the whole thing bhilbish. If you read more you would find that Obama is quoted as saying:
"I assume that Trumpet Magazine made its own decision to honor Farrakhan based on his efforts to rehabilitate ex-offenders, but it is not a decision with which I agree."
Better not to pick and chose your info without reading into it farther.
