No fucking way. You better believe he is top 50. Some of Mike's bass playing is unlike anything that I have heard from the "masters". And when Phish hits those amazing jams that deviate from the original song and unfold into 10 different forms, that when Mike show's why he deserves his spot.

  • damn seans a lucky kid

  • i read music and i jam, i dont think of notes when i jam tho. its like mike says, he feels it in different parts of his body. i think thats a great way to describe it. i think of writen music as a way to learn, but when your in the moment, all youve learned exhibits itself at once and lets you speak your mind like a language. id agree that composition is a huge part of bands like this, but with innovation being the signature of the style, live improvisation has got to be the tool of choice.

  • i bet you like... 5% of the people at this camp can read music. obviously not as an insult. i dont think phish values writen music as much as the feeling

  • @HArryhood421 idk if their music definitely sends the message out but i think we all know that they respect strong song structure and composition (ie yem reba foam divided bowie), so certainly if you know Trey had a background in classical learning and the group loves performing these numbers then i think one can conclude that they value reading/writing music in addition to the vibes of the music

  • This was very informative...

  • WHAT A LUCKY KID!

  • fucking brilliant.. i'm only sad i wasn't there in person ah

  • Very cool, mike playing a fodera

  • At about 4:50, that sounds like a damn Phish Jam. Old Fishman and Mike drove that band, Page gave Trey something to play with while he was on all the drugs =P

  • I visited the bass and nature camp last month for a sort of open house. Tons of people volunteered help and built several beautiful structures on the property. Cabins, geodesic dome, and the styled out a barn with stage, loft above, and doors that will up up behind stage for a small rock amphitheater. Freaking pimp, private, and secluded.

Victor is truly an amazing and kind human. They also teach plants and medicinals, trapping, and survival skills there as well. Bass and "Nature" camp.

  • i would love to watch phish practice and it would only be perfect if victor were there

  • everyone has to argue over who is the best everyone here is very good

  • Is Mike teaching Vic and (Sean?) the "Including your own hey" exercise? Lucky kid!

  • geniuses, mike is teaching the other two the circle jam drill phish did for years to help them learn to play off each other, comparing mike and victor is retarded, noone can touch victor techinically and few can improv like michael

  • This is actually really need, hearing Mike explain what goes on in the exercise room.

  • mike and victor are at a level where only mutual respect and constructive criticism reign supreme. they are above any bullshit because THAT IS WHAT MUSIC IS ABOUT. it's not some stupid, petty race.

  • Phish rules and Victor Rules

  • It's Mike Gordon BRO!! From Phish!! MIke fucking Rules man! That bass Mike is Playing is fuckin 30k man! So Mike can show whoever he wants about bass! Go see Rising Low and your appreciation for Mike Gordon will change!!

  • Mike's modulus is 30K..... no way, 10 tops

  • i agree, but he wasn't a dick about it though

  • Mike is telling victor to be more simple on account of the novice drummer, trying to teach him how to jam...read the video comment. Victor is the best, no doubt about it. But Mike runs a close second; and screw you for criticizing them both to try and teach an up and coming drummer how to jam.

  • damn straight............. nobody tells victor what to do

  • Back in the day Victor was the only show that spoke me like Phish. He busted out of a woofer cabinet for an intro, levitated, and did more tricks with his bass than Jimmy page in his heyday. Eugene, OR on MLK's B-day was one of the best shows I've ever seen. There were lots of Phish fans there that had never heard of Victor Wooten, and by the end of the show every single person in the house was a fan. Speaks volumes to the magic of small venues. Great to see Mike and Vic together. Thank you!

  • your a dumb asshole

  • and this vid would have been better without your comment....

  • 2 great players.

  • that last jam is awesome

  • bass player in my band went like 3 times, and personally knows victor wooten and family. needless to say as a guitar player, i am completely jealous.

  • id love to go to his camp. too poor tho xD

  • Don't forget banjo legend Tony Trishka's son on drums!!! Sean killed it!!

  • thanks, will update the description!

  • should be "Trischka" actually

  • i was here too! best time of my life!

  • Beer gut on Mike!

  • when is this from

  • This was filmed during the 2007 camp. I was the fortunate one who got complete access to everything to film it. Even as a passive observer, it was one of the most enlightening musical experiences of my life. Victor and his team are awesome people!

  • i was here!!

  • SAM! whats up man its tom! happy to say i was here too. what have you been up to besides rocking the bass?
