  • Lovely duet.. Very good.

  • A match made in heaven and on earth!! I wish i wish there would be more

  • i know its a different version

but it just seems so awkward with him singing so slowly

  • @nushla11 I think it works, although I prefer him singing faster it still works :)

  • god bless you kirsty

  • Saw the two of them do this at a Cuba benefit gig, around 1995 - good that there were no digital cameras blocking the view but not sure if there is any video of it.

  • R.I.P Kirsty

  • everything that makes me love music.. Great song-writing, simple music, superb singer and 2 people who actually enjoyed what they were doing. doesnt get much better than this.

  • This duet version is the best of all.

  • this song always sounds good ... always loved Kirsty's version, this sounds wonderful, both of them together.

  • I never heard of her before, found by accident wow chip shop ,new enland man she's amazing you learn somethong new every day

  • 6 people have no soul.

  • @PvtManc one person has no origionality. drop threse shit commen

  • @PvtManc Soullessness has gone up 100% since last year then...:/ haha

  • Best version of this gem of a song ever? Billy and Kirsty do fantastic versions on their own but this pure heaven, Billy plays it just right in supporting Kirsty rather than forcing his own stamp on it. Brilliant

  • I can't stop listening to this masterpiece, heaven help me....

  • So, not perfect, and so good...

  • Two words: so beautiful

  • top stuff i didnt realise they dueted on this song either

  • Absolutely magical.....

  • i love billy bragg doing his best singing for kirsty.

  • R.I.P Kristy, thank you for the music and your courageous display of parental love.

    - love from Singapore

  • I loved you then as I love you still

Though I put you on a pedestal, you put me on the pill

I don't feel bad about letting you go

I just feel sad about letting you know

  • this song is heavan, like honey on a flower. The sound covers you with a fresh breeze on a hot day loving all around you. Many thanks. A.

  • Probably the best song ever written

    Gerry Lambe

  • @Gerrylambe

    From the skunks?

    or the hockey player? :P

  • The most profound lyric EVER.....

"I don't feel bad about letting you go I just feel sad about letting you know"

That's the cut of most relationship break ups

  • @ctidcarl wow more profound than 'god save the queen'?

  • @Tommyfazz

I don't get your point (if there is one)

I was merely complimenting a fantastic lyric in a cracking song - surely that's inoffensive to anybody??

  • @ctidcarl

    right on.

  • this is awesome

  • bad news for music lovers: you sold out you little shouty shit. Lib-Dem arsehole.

  • @Tommyfazz

Labour sold Billy and us all out long before Billy left the New Labour nightmare so shut your gob!

  • What I love most about this is the fact that are parts of the Billy version and parts of the Kirsty version that I prefer, yet this version seems to bring the best of both. I love Kirsty extra verse and it sends shivers down my spine when billy sings ' they're only satelites...' . This is the best of two beautiful versions!

  • @mhlamb1

    Good call that!!

I was ALWAYS unsure about Kirsty's extra verse, but the fact they sang it together show's that Billy obviously approves.....

    ...and it just works!!

  • @ctidcarl billy bragg wrote the last verse while on the phone to kirsty so of course he approved

  • @phillpot21 are you sure he was not on the toilet?

  • @Tommyfazz it was during a phone conversation

  • i love this song and i love her voice. schade daß sie nicht mehr ist... aber vielleicht ja wirklich nur nicht mehr hier

  • Glorious - thanks for this.

  • 16 years when I heard your song, 17 now, and the days are as long. Nothing but everything still is wrong, I guess that's why I'm in love with the song.

  • awesome kirtsy and mr bragg, what a tune !

  • I heard mp3iiffy is the best site to download songs like this. Google mp3iiffy.

  • Two of the most innovative singer songwriters of the 20th Century. Billy Bragg is the perfect partner for the much missed Kirsty. Rock on up there Kirsty

  • low-keyed Billy but ever such a beautiful voice on top of Kirsty's !

  • Brilliant song, I prefer her solo version. Also, Kirsty does the backing falsetto vocals on Tracy Ulman's only pop single venture 'They Don't Know About Us.'

  • Still love ya babes.

    all my Xmasessss

  • Septic Tanks (Yanks) are Fat.

    Fact.

  • @1SPARRY arguing with pikeys is like wrestling a pig, you both get dirty and the pig likes it. fact.

  • I dunno, I think it works. A bit like salad cream and marmite sarnies- you know it's wrong but you still eat it :D Unless that's just me?

@Jigaboo123456 I don't usually like to admit my ignorance but I'm really happy to admit that I had to google 'jigaboo'. Shame you're British and shame on you!

Still, you have a right to your opinion and I have a right to dismiss it as the ill formed ranting of a talentless, whiny scrote with all the personality of a dog turd. No offence intended.

  • @Jigaboo123456

Not a bad reply :D I've no idea what they're teaching in schools these days. It's been 23 years since my arse graced a school chair.

As far as I can remember we never had classes on racial epithets. We did Latin though - is that ok?

  • @AlchemicalDavid

Tut!tut! Sir, you break the basic rule of Internet protocol and actually concede a touché.Whatever next? polite discourse?!

If the passage of 23 years and smoking the stuff on your channel vid hasn't fried all the brain-cells used for memory, I say goodbye to you with this about B.Bragg.

    "Hic homo est stultissimus omnium"

  • Hahahaha - well, I suppose it's better than hic puer est... :D

    I don't think he's stupid - a bit deluded mayhap.

And I'll have you know that my whatsit has not been affected by my use of mind altering ...big word, starts with an S..bugger, I've forgotten.

    Velico ergo sum.

  • @AlchemicalDavid Well, you know waht they say....if you can remember the sixties, you weren't there. A stimulating discourse old bean, but I must now attend to imporrtant matters of state, ie filling out my bus pass application , so it's goodbye, or "Die dulci freure"

  • Bragg had to politely sing in key of original....not great. Kate Nash combo or Kirsty solo works best

  • Kirsty BRILLIANT! Bragg absolutely awful.

  • I completely disagree with almost all of Bragg's ideologies.

But I don't listen to music because of the artist or band's ideologies, I listen to them if they make music that I enjoy. And Bragg does exactly that.

    Fantastic song. Fantastic duet.

  • @martiniffc

Fair enough, Mate. I can think of lots of artists who's ideologies I dislike, but I enjoy theri music, writing or acting, but I'm just not into Bragg's music either, but each to their own.

  • Get some milk of human kindness, you are very clearly still waiting for any measure of a leap forward!! Only those with some semblance will understand, ie not you creep.

  • I've been looking all over for the orignal Billy Bragg version from Back to Basics (Life's a riot). Can someone please post it?

  • When you are down, you can count on songs likes this to make you feel atleast better.

  • kirsty did a concert here in toronto at the phoenix club, midrange, and after, came over to our little club, joined in the jam, partied, ended up staying for another day and another jam, we loved her---- I think that was just the type of girl she was----- I always think about her sometimes

  • thats a cool story she was amazing peace x

  • I know a person I could sing this within. Every word is true.

After our relationship I even taped Billy's original version with his stereos.

  • Comment removed

  • One of the few songs where the cover is equally as good as the original. Lovely to hear them singing together.

  • Just lookin' for another girl.

    For now and forever

  • Thanks for sharing Dekemc - I prefer the version of her on her own, but still pretty good though.

  • May she rest in peace in heaven with our lord, Jesus Christ.

  • So sad. So resonant. So forever. L.

  • this is very different to what I would normally listen to. Naturally I enjoyed it!

  • Thanks PassionateFriend for posting this. A real gem. Both artists have a special place in my personal history of musical loves. Billy has always been a hero. "Is it wrong to wish on space hardware?" - what a line! I was moved to tears when I heard of Kirsty's sad and pointless demise. Voice of an angel. Long may her legacy live on.

  • geez sorry everyone hated my comments just sayi nshes a better singer ... whats the big deal? anyway... he sounds good singing with her ... they sound good as a duo but by himself he sounds like hes been drinkin too many beers or somethng .. just sayin sorry

  • Billy Bragg is a fantastic lyricist and songwriter, but i feel he does'nt get enough credit for being an amazing guitarist.

  • just simply go to one of his concerts :)

He is not very up to get all this credits you like him to receive... he just doesn't care

  • Great folk voice from billy

    thanks for posting this

  • on of the greatest singers of all time what a loss rip kirsty x

  • brilliant two genuine artists, no glam or record company or judge telling them what to do, kirsty had a great voice.

  • That was just beautiful, thankyou for puttin this up, loads an loads....

  • hearing her sing makes me ache -I wish she was still alive - what a loss

  • Great choon and great reminder of two great talents - but would it be sacriligous (sic) to change "England" to "Ireland" as being a Paddy and would love to learn this on guitar?

PassionFriend - Kudos on the post!

  • Billy Bragg wouldn't mind that IMHO.

  • That is so emotional, Im crying like a baby
