yes alot slower, they cut out afew parts and some of the lyrics were changed before the broadway recording. yeh

and the singers sound better in the broadway recording. oh, so does the band.

yeh but its good to listen to the first version of the song yeh.

this is my fave song. i thought the whole mark not being over maureen plot was cute. especially during their little bit in la vie boheme. but it the current version is still wonderful.

in mark and roger's part here, it's more clear why mark suddenly blurts out "maureen?"...in the current version it sort of doesn't make sense.

this is the workshop version as it is officially known, made 1994 i believe. so probably as Anthony Rapp was in the workshop version, one of the few who also did the 1996 premier.

Well, it's supposed to be sung in a way that the actors would be able to hear the song and their part very clearly. That's why it sounds so 'messed up', as you put it.
