  • very good. what circuit did u use here? i wanna make a 4000uF 200v coilgun any ideas?

  • IMA CHARGING MY LAZZA

I..uh...mean my little bb gun *beeuuuuuu*

  • @andrewjbright

A Softair with 20 Joules... A Dream But no reality

  • @cacneaunit6

uF stands for something (lol) farads, which is measurement of capacity (50 uF would have low capacity, but 1 F would hold alot.)

joules are the impact force (an airsoft gun is about 5-20 joules)

and mF is microfarads, similair to uF

  • what is a joule and a mf and what does uf stand for

  • awsome casing never thought of that before :P

  • Wow it goes through paper, not my blowdart is better than that!

  • one word: defibrilator

  • very not powerfull...

  • it seems weak but do u guys know how hard it is to make one of these go through 1 piece of paper. i made one with 4 digital cameras and can barely go through two and you have to strech it tight

  • How many capacitors did you use?

  • and that's you cold coilgun? ahaha you'r funny guy

    That's cold coilgun

    watch?v=j8XBbpemjDY

  • cheat vidéo

  • useful

  • OVER POWER IT >:D

  • =( oh the tears

  • @candle303

Let me guess: You gave it a try and failed :)

  • you are the stupidest cuz there is nothing stupid in there -.-

  • @alabank

Are you retarded? Read your own post again.

    Think more, post less.

  • prty cool vid m8.

i recently tore apart a camera for the flash

and it was 330v and 120uF.

but did you use the camera flash capacitor or

    a different one?

  • make a tutorial!

  • Detailed build pictures are available on the project's homepage. Check the video info for the link.

  • @SireSpamelot it's simple if you have an hold camera you can take off the internal circuit (pay attention at the capacitor don't touch the circuit without gloves there is 350 v) so, you take a metal tube , a nail and a copper wire so winding copper wire round the metal tube (like a coil) firm the 2 wires of the coil to the capacitor,in the flash circuit there is a flash charge button (make sure that the battery aaa is at its place) touch the charge button with a screwdriver you will hear

  • probably good for spies

put a poisoned needle in this and it's pretty stealthy

  • in addition to this, the two main areas of your design should be focused on the coil construction, (lots of turns, of thick wire for low resistance) and the capacitor and SCR. both need good thick cables throughout to handle the immence currents in the pulse, and have minimal resitive components. To get more energy behind your shot, you should aim for a higher system voltage. 600VDC is ok, but better if you can goto 1200VDC. half C times V sqaured for (joules).

  • nice small construction, Definatly portable, have you considered using SCR's to dump the energy in the capacitors into the coil? this would be much more effective than the switch method, the reason is becuase the switch contacts are very likely to become damaged in these conditions, SCRs are ideal for this application, as they dont spark and dont get worn from the arcing when switching. If ur clever, you can use a neon bulb to trigger the gate of the SCR and make it fuly automatic. XD

  • the downside of th bulb is power used while acting as a trigger, esp with a coilgun like this that uses the circuit from a camera. one (complicated) way to make it fully auto is to have a magazine, spring loaded, 2 load the ammo behind the coil, and have a rotary switch, tht can activate about 20 terminals in a slowish repeated motion. use 2 activate about 20 seperate flash circuits, via relays, in a repeated sequence. the rotation should b slow enough so th 1st circuit can charge again. =]

  • as long as the first circuit is charged b4 it is fired again, it works fine. the rotary switch is just a small motor geared down to a cog on a metal rod, i used stuff from an old rc car. attatch a small wire to the metal rod, and make up a small attatchmenti just used a small plastic sheet, and make a ring of 20 terminals in a circle, with a diameter of about an inch. make sure the rod is in th centre of the ring and that when it rotates, the wire n it will touch the ring of terminals in sequenc

  • Eliza, your right in the fact standard photoflash units take a while to charge. The problem is the power consumption is intended to be low to run on normal batteries. If your clever enough, you could dismantle a computer PSU and use the PWM chip and the power mosfets to create a larger version. you will of course need to modify the output transformer. I have had good results using iron cores at 1000Hz without heating problems, they do get noisy tho. My design was for 250W so it charged quickly.

  • What is the uF and voltage on your capasitor?

  • 400V 560 uF. But i wouldn't use my numbers. This project was just for fun. I had the parts lying around so I gave it a shot. The results weren't amazing but I was very happy when that bb even came out of the barrel.

  • @lilletizz

it was the same quesion I was going to ask lol xD

  • wow, almost went through a sheet of paper

  • I think the satisfaction comes from building it yourself rather than it's destructive power (although if it had the latter, I wouldn't mind..)

  • ha i guess ur right

  • 15000 view

  • So what is the rating of your capacitor? what voltage is it charged to and what is the capacitance?

  • is the coil connected to the capacitor or connected to the secondary transformer?

  • The coil is connected to the capacitor with a switch and when you close the switch the energy from the capacitor flows through the coil thus firing the projectile. The secondary transformer produces a 5kv spark to power the flash tube so the current is low which won't do much in a coil.

  • 100fps at most...

  • way less

  • yeah more like 20-30

  • i would guess 20

  • I see, i can understand the need for portability.

If your still on please watch my new video on modding a camera circuit and tell me what you think.

It sure makes the circuit MUCH MUCH smaller so it can be even more portable.

  • This is cool but i don't like the fact that the coil is inside the case. I prefer to have all of the differnt components charging, capacitors, and coil separated so they can be easily replaced or changed.

  • Yea it spent about a month like that...all over my desk. =) I wanted it to be portable so I could show it off. So after I worked out all the kinks, I packed it all away. Its also a lot safer that way, especially for those trying it out who have no appreciation for HV.

  • I am also going to be making a new video in the next week or so while i am on spring break about making a very simple 2-3 stage coil gun out of very simple parts.

  • its an electrical box designed to hold light switches... any hardware store will have them with the light switches

  • oh, I see thats why it fits the switch so well

I thought it may be a resin casting =/

  • HA! I love it, and the weed tin you used to as a target. Yeah I totally suggest the progectile length be longer, it spends more time at the magnets, which equals faster velocity. However, a headless naim my be too heavy for something that small.

  • I would like to know what the case is made of. my weekend project is going to be a coil gun, after building a crossbow, i figure it shoulden't be any harder...

  • dude thats awesome!! where did you get your capacitor??

  • You can get one the size of a "D" battery from a 17" computer monitor or a non-working TV.

  • Actually thats exactly where I got mine from!

  • try using a projectile 75% lenght of the coil. maybe a headless nail. its sapose to be alot more efficent. if u do post a vid respose so i can see ^^

  • do a sound test for speed

  • hahaha, what is the fps?? 3?

  • good question....no idea... Its surprisingly more powerful than I thought though. Clears my two story house with relative ease.
