  • I'm glad I never took art, you're a much better teacher than any of them unoriginal idiots who force you to do the same goddamn thing.

  • well i dont want to draw anymore...i am satisfaied with listening to you... ^^

  • This is so damn good. It really cuts through a lot of the BS. Wow.

  • Very nice explanations, though maybe a bit long on the words. Have to say those optical illusions from 4:14 on are just amazing!

  • Acctualy, i enjoy these talking videos. Me learn, me happy :-)

  • ok. I used to think that iam very talented in drawing, but when i see all this drawings, tutorials from ppl all over the world, I dont feel like that anymore. Indeed, talented ppl are everywhere, if i only live in my house, and think big about myself, then one day, i will be casted aside by society. I feel very ashamed of myself, i cant draw good like this man, like all other ppl. You guys are a true talented person. I cant compare to you guys.

  • why o why did i not have a teacher like you in school, your so gifted m8

  • Although I already know all this stuff from classes in k-12 schools, your explanation is so much different- dare I say more effective?- than what I have heard from other art teachers. This is the what happens when Science meets Art :)

  • god i love the Café wall ^^

trying to ink that right now

  • Master please teach me more!!!

  • I started too draw and I wont chill out until I wont do it in the level I want to,i hope I wont get VERY old till when xD

  • :D you ar so amazing and i admire you just so you know u have inproved not only my thought on art but my whole prospecive you have tottaly taught me so much and i would jusy love to thank you! :)

  • your good at venting about art in its self but i rely just wanted to draw a portrait

  • This was very nice, thanks

  • thanks for posting this! i really enjoy watching your videos :)

  • You are a genius..!

  • thanks for posting

  • hey everyone!

i just uploaded a video of an oil painting that took me 5 months to finish.

i would like to get some feedback on it. so if everyone that reads this could check it out and let me know what you think it would help me out! the video is called -- monumental oil painting- from start to finish. thanks everyone!

  • I love optical ilousions

  • you are a great teacher for my style of learning, thx for these vids

  • Hey I just started to watch these episodes, and you're actually the only one who's got me a little more understanding about all of this that has to do with painting / drawing etc. :) and btw, that gradient-map-scale thing, I saw about a 7, 'cause I have a really high Gamma on my screen :P

  • This dude should totally of played as Shaggy in that Scooby Doo movie.

  • We call it Voight-Kampff for short. ;-)

  • such a kind guy :)

  • creativity stems through adversity, love. not drugs.

  • What value on the grey scale is 18% grey, is it 5?

  • it was just black.

  • Hey man, if you are not already a teacher, you should be... although I believe you'd probably enjoy more spending your time drawing and painting than standing in front of a classroom. Thank you for this outstanding series of videos!

  • I hate value scales! The explanation is vary interesting, and makes things seem alot less bothersome then my past art teachers.

  • Your the MAN! I'm applying to get into the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle so I have been looking for some cool videos to give me some tips to make a more impressive portfolio. I'm watching ALL your videos for sure!

  • Thanks man, I'm going to watch the whole series, you're good at explaining stuff.

  • In the previous eppisode i still saw his face in negative when the screen turned black, and the reflection of the window in it, something i would not have seen it when i didnt knew all this.. thanks :)

  • those illusions make my eyes hurt for some reason

  • I really found this part intriquing. The bit about the optical illusions was excellent. Things are starting to make sense so don't think you're rambling. you're actually a very good communicator. Shame we didn't have people like you at school in the 1970's. I'd probably be better educated. Although my spelling is pretty good isn't it viewers?

  • yup =) but Its intriguing not intriquing (just because you asked i had to find something XD)

  • Are you an art teacher or something? Because the way you explain things just sticks an image right into my head and makes everything easier. It makes me understand things much better. Thanks alot.

  • Just finished your Ep2B. feel have more confidence to start learning new things. Thank you for sharing your personal experience.

  • I was looking for something like this for months, im on the second episode, thank you!!! this is awesome

  • Oh my, Dude, I love the way you explain everything. its interesting and i can't help but listen and want to understand, which is easy thanks to you! The Flashing black light illusion is also interesting. Ive never seen anything like it.

  • this rocks. you are an amazing person and i only hope all otherbeginners and fellow artists alike take you and your instruction with as high regard as i do. i thank you .

  • funky looking forms :D

  • Maybe U should pay more attention to what he's talking about, instead of giving unnecessary advices. He makes perfect sense. Maybe u need more schooling if u'r brain is slow.

  • right....well said ellena....listen to the guru...and dont be a verbose please!

  • hes giving lessons for free and ur complaining go and screw yourself

  • Congratulations?

  • I don't remember anyone asking you to brag, nor did anyone ask for your autobiography.

  • and your point is?

  • well since ur a PRO, what the hell R U doing HERE!

  • If you kids want to draw but don't want to watch his videos this clearly isn't for you. Go to your little comic book store and buy your little dbz or naruto how to draw books. Lazy kids...

  • the last ilusion is very porwerfull

  • I've watched your first three videos on this series. I plan of watching the rest of them, but not today.

    5 stars!

  • In this vidéo you are drawing like...like god

  • " this doesn't make any sense, what is going on here!" hahahaha

  • good teaching ability you truley have a gift

  • you can not get me to belieive that those lines are parallel

  • Nice approaches; great performance in stating the principles behind art being about an inner-communication

  • ahhahah, your so cool. :P

  • lol it's like that annoying wack-a-mole game!

  • after 4:14, I thought my eyes are tring to kid me! I had to look away and saw those points everywhere in the room! ...

    ...

Please go on do such a fantastic work!

  • Wow, this REALLY helps out. Im actually learning something. I had to take an art class at school and supposedly i was supposed to learn. lol i learned more here then i did a whole semester their..lol

  • these are so much better than the expert village videos

  • your so awesom! (= good job explaining and nice art videos

  • you are cool, i understood :)

  • thanks :D

  • wow, very nice approach to teaching, it's a bit early for me to make a judgment but I'm definitely subscribing to your channel.

  • heh heh.. wack-a-mole... love it!

  • i LOVE that painting behind you

  • The last illusion was soo cool!

  • dat wuz so kool

  • but this is how they learned, great abstractors and cubists learn to make art in the tradition and then they abstract from forms. The reason these artists are so captivating is because they absolutely understand form and denounce it. I m sure when picasso was learning how to paint he attended lectures much longer then this one. look at both of those artists early work.

  • That Picasso and Matisse didn't draw 'exactly', doesn't mean that they weren't able to. ;)

  • 33*

  • how old r u..im guessing 23

  • nice i loved the moving black dots illusion

  • I wanna learn!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy is awesome.

  • The 2nd and 3rd to last illusions didn't work for me. I even went to your site :/

  • Maybe the gray background it's making it more dificult, try changing the background color

  • You're just fantastic! The way you explain things is just... Well... Extraordinary! Magnificent! Fabulous! Aw man I'd wish you were my art teacher :P

Wooot? Why can't I vote for 10 stars? xD

  • if you were paying attention...you'd actually be able to figure it out.

  • Your ability to make what you love is a gift and an indication on how passionate you are about it. I love your videos.

  • If he were my teacher, I couldn't wait for class! This guy could probably make anything interesting XD

  • Who the damned Guacamole do you think YOU are? She's just complimenting this guy by telling him what a great teacher he is, and you're making it negative, you asshole.

  • i like you to be my teacher. . . your a great artist and a great teacher

  • I drew the hermann grid illussion! I never tought i could make that myself. Its not very clear because the value of my pencil is grey at 10.

  • Aahh, why can't you be my art teacher? You're so good at explaining. And I've never even see my art teacher draw anything!

  • u r a great artist AND a super smart teacher dude

  • you are cool, thanks for the vids

  • the two squares looked exactly the same to me o_O

  • i understood :)

  • i hate you for being so awesome.

  • itss like that annoying wack-a-mole gamee! loooollll!!!

  • Thanks for helpeing me u rock so hard for now on u r my new art teacher.

  • Thank you very much for all the information. I appreciate your efforts a lot. I held you in high honor.

  • Analogies, terminologies, and optimistic aspects are amazing! I like how you put it in a theatrical semantic, because the analogy is correct by lenses and optical illusions, and thanks for not letting us draw using the hermin grid. Lol.

  • Interesting view you have on optical illusions... Although I am quite anxious to get down to the business of drawing :)

  • Holy crap. X.x My head is spinning and my eyes burn, but you are awesome. xD

  • Wow i realy like this show. The host looks nice and it makes sence(2 things i need in a show)

  • Hey!

I'd like to thank you for posting this. This takes time and patience for you to do all this for us and I really appreciate it. Thank you for giving us free and easy access to your lessons. Thank you for teaching us clearly. Thank you for all you hard work!

I really look forward to watching your next episodes!

  • okey from now and on you are my new teacher :)

  • ¡yo también!

  • Uhm, I see the Gray spots in the intersections because thats the contrast, but if I decrease my eyes contrast just a bit I can see The picture without those Gray contrast spots, to decrease the contrast of my eyes I close my eyes a little Try it ^_^ , the eye lashes decreases the amount of light that goes in the retina as u close Your Eyes

  • Still, quite informative.

  • yu rock. thanks!

  • nice ... i like becouse you tell us every detail's well ,keep going and show us more !!!

  • Very interesting. Thanks. I know it is too late to comment on it in this video but can you explain what effect eye wobble has on the creation of optical effects. Only ask because the illusions worked very well on video. :)

Will be watching the rest of the series.. so please continue :)

    Thanks.

  • Wow you're awesome.

    Love that painting behind you.

  • shut up this guys awsum

  • how is he a dipshit? he is at a higher level of art then you'll ever be.

  • I like pancakes.

  • cool

  • the cafe wall illusion REALLY messes with my brain ^__^

  • If you stare at the tip of his nose for about 20 secs and then close your eyes and focus on the middle, you see a freakly lady in a circle. Try it!

  • sharing ur knowledge --ur very inspiring

  • awesome. keep it up buddy. you are laying the foundations for what we will learn in the future.

  • Bravo a disegnare e bravo ad insegnare. :)

  • your voice is really relaxing :)

  • you're an amazing teacher!

i've learned more from you in 20 mins of video than i did in a whole year of my science class!

  • Same here and they say that the schools here in Finland are in the top 5 of the world's best educational systems, and yet these videos teach so much more. And the teacher here talks a lot better than those in my school >_>

  • I like his lecturing :D

This video series is VERY helpfful with my portraits! :D

  • on 4:13 is an opticall illusion (concetrate on a grey blob until it dissapears and then if you stare for 10 seconds or so all the blobs will vanish

  • Well it seems that you don't...

  • REally? the horizontal lines really really dont look parallel, no matter how long I stare at them

  • I like the rambling...very interesting and quite foreign to my current knowledge base. 5 stars.

  • Phew it felt like a collage class.

  • and this doesnt at all make chloraphyl happy...

i got bore-receptor here talkin about god knows what!

jst jokin man. mad respect but i couldnt pass up the oppourtunity.

  • EclecticArtAsylum (I'm sorry I don't know your name), how long have you been creating art? It seems like you've been at it for years

  • he's name is Jason (Look at his channel).

  • If you want to, you can really break it down into a science. Get metaphors and fantastic explanation.

  • this guy is the man

  • you're better than my college art professors, you should teach at my college :-P

  • hey thanks

  • This is serious stuff. who would have thought

  • You are a very creative teacher and I'm so happy you take the time to show us how to draw. I am learning so much from you and can't wait to learn to draw. Please make more for us ok?

  • podria tener subtitulos :(

  • i feel motivated :) hehe youøre a good teacher

  • what :( i can't follow...

  • too bad that im so fucking lazy. would be fun to learn to draw :(

  • if you can control it, it will give your drawings a pop, and an extra liveliness.

  • you should make the next one soon...I'm in advanced art and am focusing on cartooning but I want to learn portraits more

  • Awesome. I cant wait for the next video. You should write a book.

  • soo... many... words....

i seriously just wanna get to the drawing part -_-

  • Because your an idiot, and can't understand what hes saying. he IS telling you how to draw, all of this he is saying will pay off once you get to the drawing.

  • gosh, im just a kid... im not watching for professional drawing, just to practice drawing at home for school.

  • dattebayoyeah, some people are just mean, i suppose blessedspirit, (and thats an ironic name for such an unsympathic response) is a master artist with and adavnced degree in vision phyisology so he gets board when someone say's "i don't understand." so don't sweat. once a writing teacher told me 'if you want to learn to write, write." same with art.

  • OMG SAME.

  • drawing takes lots more technique than just outlining and filling in shadows so just be patient, everything he tells u is wat any art teacher will say

  • drawing takes patients buddy.

  • cant wait for the next video.

  • THANK YOU

  • Love the drawing theories that you teach, do you have any books in mind that we can read for drawing theories such as contrast, light/shade, perception, or studies of other drawings, etc.?

  • cool love it
