some one would like to donate me a Carbon Fibre Cello? really loved that cello, but here in Brasil is hard to save money to buy a good cello...all money i earn is to survive =/
@CraziiKid1990 $600 for a good cello? Are you kidding me? About $2000-5000 will get you a good step up cello. More than that and then you get into low-professional cellos. People have said the Carbon fiber cello sounds better than wooden cellos that costed 100X more (about $700,000). Better may be an opinion though. They sound different from regular cellos and aren't the "traditional" wooden cellos, which is why I think they aren't enormously popular.
That's awesome! Yeah, I Saw One At An Orchestra(WSU)! It was all round, though! But It Was Reflective! It was sooo cool! It really STUCK OUT from all the other instruments!
Yes afcourse the producer of this carbon cello wants to promote his instruments.
I tested these, and : they just don't sound at all ! If you put this cello against a wooden instrument, the difference is huge .... that's why almost nobody uses them.(-: Test it yourself and you will HEAR it.
Very nice to see, Can anyone help me; I want to repair pernambucobows broken behind the head wirh carbonfiber rods. Can someone help me to get the right material?
i owned a traditional cello...i'm just a bit interested by looking at this cello..just want to know which one is better...but i guess, mine is already good.
traditional one (as long as it's a good one)....these cellos are consistently the same and weather doesn't affect them that much......a traditional cello is susceptible to climate changes but has much more tonal variety.
I've forgotten how it sounds in person, but a teacher I know owns one of these Carbon Fibre cellos, and had no problems with warping, or any intonation changes.
The cost on a website I looked up is, 7,139 dollars. It is a beautiful sound to it. Also it depends on the strings you put on the cello. Like gut strings have a different sound than normal metal strings. But I don't know if this needs special strings or not. It's amazing. Does it normaly have that almost electronic sound to it?
The carbon instruments do sound very very good. The greatest advantage to me is their durability. You could leave one in a snow bank overnight - dust off the snow and play it. Carbon is so stable you may not even have to retune it! The only disadvantage is that carbon is brittle so you don't want to drop one off the back of a truck - but you don't want to drop any instrument off the back of a truck!
@dromemaster7 sorry but that is straight bull, my cello is considered average and is considerably more expensive than that. You can pay 3,000 if you want a crappy student one
not necessarily. One of these may be better than a given wooden instrument, even one of high quality or a higher price. However, these are by no means "better"
than wooden instruments just because they are carbon fiber. I have one of the violins and I've played better wooden violins... They're not necessarily superior. But they are good instruments and they do have the convenient advantages over wooden instruments, such as as durability, and holding up in adverse weather conditions.
i think it's all about how they make the instrument. i'd bet, though, because we can manipulate carbon fiber so much more than wood, if they put a bit of R&D money into manipulating carbon fiber's ability to conduct vibration, they can probably ever so nearly duplicate the sound quality of even the best wooden instruments - given that somebody is willing to say, "take apart my Strad, so you can duplicate how it conducts vibraton with carbon fiber material," of course.
because it doesn't cost much to make them. People just haven't noticed or don't WANT to notice, that these instruments sound like wooden instruments that cost far more then 6-8 grand. This is the kind of thing that overturns markets. It won't happen fast. but it will slowly happen for sure. And then you can expect the price to go up I guess.
i think what ddrumsman thinks they cost TOO MUCH instead of the relative bargain they really are; these things play more than twice as loud as a regular wooden cello and sound great. they're smaller and more comfortable too
no wait a minute, carbon fiber, when in bulk, cost about $44 a yard, did you see how many layers go into each cello? then add the cost of the resin/hardeners, plus labor, shipping, profit, reselling to a musical store, plus their shipping and profit, it really adds up.
well, I think that they sell almost exclusively over the phone to the customers, very few in stores, unless the stores buy them in the same way... but really, the instruments don't cost all that much. To get the same sound in a wooden instrument, you might pay close to the same... if you're lucky. Most people I know who have heard the cello guessed it was worth more, and most pros I know who have heard it thought it was worth a 20-30 grand cello. it's one of those "bang for your buck" ideas.
Correction 1: Why isn't this cello classically shaped? / Why this cello not classically shaped?
Correction 2: This cello is shaped like a guitar
Trolling or not that was just terrible
To answer the question it is because of the moulding process, the sharp corners in traditional cellos do not accommodate the carbon fibre when being they are being formed.
The shape of the carbon fibre cello does not compromise sound.
I thought they were shaped as such because acoustical engineering found the shape provide a preferred sound. I fail to see how the shape is irrelevant--it could determine a sweeter or more robust sound if changed.
it definitely makes a difference. If you go on their website, you can learn more, but I guess he wanted a sleeker slimmer body for the instrument, and one way to get that was to eliminate the cornices (corners for non string players). The advantage of this is is that you get a sleek futuristic look to the instrument. Wooden instruments have these cornices because they are needed for added support to the instrument's structure, but they actually absorb sound. Taking them out gan give you more.
god, sounds awful!!!

Pianospleen thanks for your reply and I understand the reasoning for the internal support.
bacplus 2 years ago
because of the resonance.
pakvanjdam 2 years ago
Does the Cello really need the internal support piece for strength?.....It is Carbon Fiber. If it were wood it would be different.
bacplus 2 years ago
Carbon fibre has an insane tensile strength, but its rigidity is rather poor (it's basically a fabric whose rigidity is provided by the resin).
