Blah bla never scored against South Africa! I'm sure the space provided by his power is appreciated by Cullen, Wilson, Howlett and Umaga who scored shit loads of tries against the Bokkes!
LOL the only one that manages to stop him is George Gregan, twice and he was probably the smallest guy on the field. Technique over size, even though size clearly helps :D
so ya if people dont know jonah lomu was suffering from a kidney disease for a long time.. that meant that he was performing at 50% of his capabilities... think about that
@bearsforpeace Some smaller players are better because they've had to become harder and improvise more than a huge 1/2 ton player who has the height/weight to use, which causes them to lose their balance easier. I am not massive but I could bounce players off, like Lomu, and take down huge fellas too. Balance, technique and that little extra determination proves to be the X factor most times.
@bearsforpeace Gregan and that infamous Wilson try spoiler hurt us kiwis, or me anyway, for years after. I'm still not over it damn it. The class of a player, in my eyes, was how much I hated them when they played. I hated Gregan more than hate itself! LOL Awesome Aussie half back!
Respond to this video... As for 'The Jonah Express' those players really do look like they're trying to stop a freight train. Steam rolling the English in that game should be in this collection too. Mind you, it's good to see some different devastating attempts at trying to stop his massive pumping thighs. His constant shifting and shimmying of his legs/body just as a player was about to grab him or as they grabbed him was a major factor in them falling off. He did it so well.
Jonah is a one off, big and fast. In his playing days, witnessed here, the Defence was just as good as todays, when rugger players like boxers, began to build up muscles which I believe makes the sports dangerous. Just look at the muscular guys throwing lightweights about like toys, just not on. Rules now should be introduced to weed out dangerous full-body charge and body slams, wrestling-style. too dangerous. We got to look after players, no matter who they are.
@themasterofcheese LOL have you seen all the try-saving tackles gregan's made? his tackling ability is almost as good as his shittalking-the-ref ability - well maybe not lol he is a small bloke, but he knows how to bring any player down :)
@FJ67CIWA Joost put Lomu down in the 1995 final with a broken rib. A head-on tackle that put Lomu on his ass. His defence was ferocious. Another great defender is Aplon, very small, but very dependable. Standing position, nailed Nonu. I couldn't say the same for brittle-bones Andies Bekker lol. 5'7 74kg Frenchman dumped him two meters backwards, Bekker stretchered off... again!
What a sack of crap jonah lomu is. Amazing player hands down but a piece of shit human being!!!! Two divorces, then steals another rugby players wife. A rugby player that looked up to him and admired him. Then shows up to that rugby players rugby session with his ex wife!!!! FUCK YOU JONAH LOMU!!!!!
@megspoppafluffy I never knew that, I guess what goes around comes around, and he got it in full! He was very fortunate to be in the time period he was in. Much like Pele, if he had been exposed to later generations... it's doubtful he would have made such an impact at all. Back in Lomu's day there was no defence system for set-pieces and such, just a line. It wasn't prepared to deal with him at that time. But 1999 changed everything, and so to his potency.
Haha, yeah everyone is replying about my post and you are all right. Mass doesn't change, it can't change. But you get someone that big with that amount of speed and it really is like getting hit with something 3 times as big. The thing is, there are lots of people with his Speed/size etc. But he was just amazing in his ability to change directions, shrug tackles off, break the line. A true winger and a true hero of the game. How many kids in NZ picked up a rugby ball because of him?
speed does not = an increase in mass. the increase in "mass" you speak of is called jerk. jerk is after acceleration and velicity ( the rate of acceleration) it is the rate at which something speeds up, its rate of eacceleration, seemingly increasing mass
George gregan has to be the best tackler in history. Do you remember that try saving tackle on jeff Wilson? The guy has the best technique. He also dumped big Richard Loe head first into the dirt.

The more speed you have, the more mass you have, thats why small things can move big things when they have a run up. For example, you past a bowling ball to someone, they catch it. You hurl it at them, and they are pushed back. Now imagine someone that is as big, if not bigger than anyone on the field, running faster than anyone on the field. The amount of mass this guys is carrying is insane, like trying to stop a bull literally. Plus you put in amazing balance and footwork and a right palm. GG
@dgralow Well actually , the more mass you have the more difficult it is for you to change intertia and gain momentum. But once you gain momentum, the harder is to stop the person with greater mass. Again law of inertia.

@dgralow actually, speed increases MOMENTUM, mass is constant. Technically, your relativistic mass does increase with extreme speed, but that only happens when an object approaches the speed of light, which I doubt Lomu ever did lol
@dgralow the bowling ball is still the same weight and mass regardless of speed, if you punch someone soft then at full force your fist did not gain more weight or mass or surface area. All it gained was more energy and forward motion , making it seem like it had more mass but not giving it any more mass.
@dgralow You must have failed Physics... hell, all science's.
Mass never changes. EVER. It's the amount of x, not weight. Mass cannot change. You cannot create mass or lose mass. All of you saying "no mass = weight" are just as bad.
@hads010 yes it is... except of course you would not throw yourself at the legs of a running bull... you would shout and hit it in the face and then run away
@dgralow I have a better analogy, a bullet is very small and weighs close to nothing but when fired the momentum can kill just like lomu except lomu is a huge bullet
Jonah Lomu is the greatest rugby player! When he was 20yrs old, he was about6'6 and could sprint 100m in 10'80sec, but he easily weighed over 120kg and played for All Blacks! When I was 20yrs, i was about 6'2', could sprint 100m in 10.55sec, but I only weighed 87kg and I played at College level only in South Africa. The reason why in 95 Jonah Lomu didn't score against the Boks in the final was only because everytime he had the ball about six guys were on him! They'd have no chance at all!
he is only one winger i know that just can be bothered with side steps!! he just smashes people to get to the line!! he just bulldozer his way to the line! side steps are for sissies!!!hahaha
I''d not heard of jona lomu before this videio, when was he at his best? (year) I'm 15 so maybe i'm too young... He just seemed to tank through them. He must have been horrible to play against.
1995 rugby world cup he was at his best, unfortunately he was plauged by health problems and ended up needing a kidney transplant. there hasnt been a more feared player before or since and some would say overrated but history will remember jonah as one of the greats.
@spurs123rock MATE LOMU WAS THE MOST PHENOMENAL PLAYER TO EVER PLAY RUGBY, HE COULD DO THINGS THAT NO ON ELSE COULD EVER DO OR WILL EVER DO AGAIN. HE WAS DEALT A CRUEL HAND WHEN HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A KIDNEY DISEASE WHICH ALMOST KILLED HIM WHICH CRUELLY CUT SHORT HIS PLAYING CAREER. HE HAD A KIDNEY TRANSPLANT & HAD ASPIRATIONS OF MAKING THE ALL BLACKS ONCE AGAIN, IT WASN'T TO BE BUT THE FACT HE PLAYED RUGBY AGAIN AFTERWARDS IS A TESTAMENT TO THE KIND OF FIGHTER HE WAS HE TRULY WAS THE BEST
I am a South african and was about 20 in the 95 world cup, Been a rugby fan since a kid and never have I been so awe struck by a player, Lomu was like a demigod on the field and thought we had no chance against the all blacks. It was our first world cup out of apartheid and hosted it, it pulled our country together for a short time, but sadly thats all gone again!. As for Lomu, He will remain as the best ever winger till someone dominates like that again, think it might be a while though.
@CPAR15 at his prime he could run the 100m in 10 seconds flat, thats faster than almost anybody he would have played against, plus he was the new zealand secondary schools sprint champ...not fast? mate, your dreaming!
Im not saying 10 seconds flat is not fast i just dont believe that he is that fast at that size... he may me really fast but i can almost guarantee he does not run a 10 flat
read a book if you don't believe me, but that was just one of the phenominal things about jonah-being that fast for his size and having more raw power than any player the world has seen
Ok i see what your say, i dont really know anything about him because i dont follow rugby... I run track so thats why im so skeptical about the 10 flat becuase that is very fast but hey you may be right. But if he really is that fast then i am truly impressed, thats insane for a guy his size.
I'm no expert but 10 seconds, you're talking about a 120kg man running at half a second off the world record over 100m? I do find it hard to believe but like I said I'm no expert.
Any idea what he lifted in terms of bench, squat, deadlift and assistance exercises (e.g. bicep curls, tricep pushdowns)? I bet he could have made a decent amateur powerlifter too.
Jonah could run a 10.8 back in the day.....any professional sportsman could achieve that with training. Grey Inglis is 107kg and he runs 10.5 with ease. Also the world record is 9.58sec, so its still over a 1 second slower :)
Your point is? Not any professional sportsman with training could run the 100m's in 10.8. If so every single pro rugby player would be trained to do so. Jonah was faster than 95% of rugby players he came up against. The difference with jonah was though he was well over 120kg, and could destroy any one in his way. So before you try to under rate Jonah's speed, just remember who has been voted the greatest rugby player of all time ;).

Secondly as an American rugby player, I die inside when I watch NFL. If they get paid so damn much, they should at least be good at what they do.

All it gained was more energy and forward motion , making it seem like it had more mass but not giving it any more mass.
xdustydogx 1 year ago
@dgralow You must have failed Physics... hell, all science's.
Mass never changes. EVER. It's the amount of x, not weight. Mass cannot change. You cannot create mass or lose mass. All of you saying "no mass = weight" are just as bad.
wbwofficial 1 year ago 2
you don't have more mass if you move fast you idiot
Mass X Velocity = POWER
MatthewHolt11 1 year ago
@dgralow Mass increases are negligible until you get past the speed of sound. The key here is mass x speed = momentum, which jonah lomu has a ton of.
BBoyFury 1 year ago
@dgralow Actually your mass would stay the same...Just your force would increase, that's all. Just because you run fast doesn't mean you get bigger.
linkinparkforelife 1 year ago
@dgralow Actually it's nothing like literally trying to stop a bull.
hads010 1 year ago
@hads010 yes it is... except of course you would not throw yourself at the legs of a running bull... you would shout and hit it in the face and then run away
jonsabine29 1 year ago
@dgralow Mass is invariant. Please... Don't comment and make youtube commenters dumber.
LessThanThreeRugby 9 months ago
@dgralow I have a better analogy, a bullet is very small and weighs close to nothing but when fired the momentum can kill just like lomu except lomu is a huge bullet
TrueGreatness73 7 months ago
@dgralow Mass does not increase with speed you dumb mother fucker

LOMU will always be remembered, who else will be remembered in 100 years like he will be?....very few i'm sure for rugby.

They'd have no chance at all!
amasonga 1 year ago 2
he is only one winger i know that just can be bothered with side steps!! he just smashes people to get to the line!! he just bulldozer his way to the line! side steps are for sissies!!!hahaha

I''d not heard of jona lomu before this videio, when was he at his best? (year) I'm 15 so maybe i'm too young... He just seemed to tank through them. He must have been horrible to play against.
spurs123rock 2 years ago
1995 rugby world cup he was at his best, unfortunately he was plauged by health problems and ended up needing a kidney transplant. there hasnt been a more feared player before or since and some would say overrated but history will remember jonah as one of the greats.
crukopua 1 year ago
@crukopua: When did his career end and how?
spurs123rock 1 year ago
@spurs123rock MATE LOMU WAS THE MOST PHENOMENAL PLAYER TO EVER PLAY RUGBY, HE COULD DO THINGS THAT NO ON ELSE COULD EVER DO OR WILL EVER DO AGAIN. HE WAS DEALT A CRUEL HAND WHEN HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A KIDNEY DISEASE WHICH ALMOST KILLED HIM WHICH CRUELLY CUT SHORT HIS PLAYING CAREER. HE HAD A KIDNEY TRANSPLANT & HAD ASPIRATIONS OF MAKING THE ALL BLACKS ONCE AGAIN, IT WASN'T TO BE BUT THE FACT HE PLAYED RUGBY AGAIN AFTERWARDS IS A TESTAMENT TO THE KIND OF FIGHTER HE WAS HE TRULY WAS THE BEST
samsonmorrell 1 year ago 2
I am a South african and was about 20 in the 95 world cup, Been a rugby fan since a kid and never have I been so awe struck by a player, Lomu was like a demigod on the field and thought we had no chance against the all blacks. It was our first world cup out of apartheid and hosted it, it pulled our country together for a short time, but sadly thats all gone again!. As for Lomu, He will remain as the best ever winger till someone dominates like that again, think it might be a while though.

6ft5 120kg run 100m 10.09sec
havea07 2 years ago 2
he does not run that fast
CPAR15 2 years ago
@CPAR15 at his prime he could run the 100m in 10 seconds flat, thats faster than almost anybody he would have played against, plus he was the new zealand secondary schools sprint champ...not fast? mate, your dreaming!
crukopua 2 years ago
Im not saying 10 seconds flat is not fast i just dont believe that he is that fast at that size... he may me really fast but i can almost guarantee he does not run a 10 flat
CPAR15 2 years ago
read a book if you don't believe me, but that was just one of the phenominal things about jonah-being that fast for his size and having more raw power than any player the world has seen
crukopua 2 years ago
Ok i see what your say, i dont really know anything about him because i dont follow rugby... I run track so thats why im so skeptical about the 10 flat becuase that is very fast but hey you may be right. But if he really is that fast then i am truly impressed, thats insane for a guy his size.
CPAR15 2 years ago
Hard to believe....
but trust me he CAN run that fast...thats why hes so unstoppabe.
macknificent100 2 years ago
I'm no expert but 10 seconds, you're talking about a 120kg man running at half a second off the world record over 100m? I do find it hard to believe but like I said I'm no expert.
theporksicle 1 year ago
you got me on that one, i was wrong i just looked it up, his best time was 10.8 seconds..still damn fast for a 120+ kg man!
crukopua 1 year ago
well, you have to believe it man, thats why in his prime lomu was unstoppable, there is always big strong guys, but
mano2116 1 year ago
without his power-speed combination
mano2116 1 year ago
Any idea what he lifted in terms of bench, squat, deadlift and assistance exercises (e.g. bicep curls, tricep pushdowns)? I bet he could have made a decent amateur powerlifter too.
theporksicle 1 year ago
Jonah could run a 10.8 back in the day.....any professional sportsman could achieve that with training. Grey Inglis is 107kg and he runs 10.5 with ease. Also the world record is 9.58sec, so its still over a 1 second slower :)
lankemark 1 year ago
Your point is? Not any professional sportsman with training could run the 100m's in 10.8. If so every single pro rugby player would be trained to do so. Jonah was faster than 95% of rugby players he came up against. The difference with jonah was though he was well over 120kg, and could destroy any one in his way. So before you try to under rate Jonah's speed, just remember who has been voted the greatest rugby player of all time ;).
baldwin12345 1 year ago 2
@lankemark Greg ingliss cant even crack under 11sec buddy. hes MUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lockey Turner from the WARRATARS SMOKED ingliss and Hain
LOMU would HELLA SMOKE all three with ease.
LOMU his fastest 100m = 10.65sec
