The difference between Obama's politics and a Garand rifle? One's an outdated piece of crap left over from the Cold War, and the other is "the greatest battle implement ever devised".
I hope this works out. Why not just do a switch? SK sells to an importer thento the U.S. imported. Idk if they would still have to be said yes or no by the state department or not.
So my Grandfather was drafted into the Korean war, issued an M1 Garand and I can never even hold my grandfathers rifle because of some liberal pussies who think gang members will want these?
Because people used to AK 47's with 30 round mags and hi cap drums are going to pay more money for these grandpa guns with 8 round clips, makes perfect sense.
Not sure of the argument that importing these will drive Garand prices down incredibly low. The price of "non-korean import" rifles may even go up. I'm not sure. Overall, yes the prices will drop due to increased supply, but the non korean ones might keep their current value as the korean imports start out cheap. As always, you can get a service grade Garand at the CMP for less than $700 I think. Gun shows have had the same U.S. surplus Garands as the CMP for over $1,000 on many occasions.
On another note I think this country's administration sucks! I hate liberal politics! Gangsters with Garands seriously! Obama is doing an injustice to our country insulting a piece of history! A Garand is not an assault rifle and they were made here in the US!
Bring in large quantities of M-1 rifles you deface the value of the ones that are already here causing the dealers and auctioneers to loose money! The government collects taxes from marked up rifles! Firearms are taxed! Just a thought...

@jbranstetter04 Will see? We're already seeing his true colors :u I'm amazed we managed to survive this long with him. I'm terrified to think about four more years of him being in charge.
@Sev89 It can happen, four more years of him. And the next four years will not be like the last. He will know that he will not be passing any big legislation. He will then be furthering his goals by way of his Administration. He will do all he can to make this country a big government, top down country. And remember that the American Administration has a lot of power. If he is able to replace a "conservative" Supreme Court justice, then we have had it, as they will strip us of our rights.
@jbranstetter04 I've heard the justice argument quite a lot. While I do believe the SOB has every intention of doing it, they wouldn't be able to go and overturn the Heller decision just like that without pissing off half the country. As you said, anything he intends to implement will be through executive order. Which will, once again piss off half the country.
@Sev89 You state twice that it will "piss off half the country". What will be the result of that? I say nothing. He is the President and they are the Supreme Court. What are the pissed off going to do, shoot them? I hope not. Believe it or not, I would actually defend them. We have lost no rights in this country that has not been of the peoples choosing. We are still free to make up our own government. Not caring is not an excuse (not that you do not care).
With M1 rifles commanding quite a price these days, an influx of the guns back into the shooting circle would simply bring prices down to more manageable levels and bring the M1 back into the price range of the average shooter. I would JUMP at the chance to get an M1, but simply put all the one's I've seen lately are simply too expensive. Who thinks of this stuff, it alarms me that such stupidity and ilogical thinking is in charge of many aspects of this country.
@DBabyNinetyOne91 I got mine in the 90's for about $250. It was brought back here from South Korea. How much are they going for today? The stock on mine was beat up a lot. I refinished it, but in a way that made it look as if I didn't. I mean it still looked used, but not abused. I really like it a lot. It's really accurate.
@jbranstetter04 not sure about in the States, But up here in Canada they are hard to find under $1000. I just traded a guy two pistols for one :) couldn't be happier. Have wanted one for many years.
It sometimes makes me mad that I fight for this government's constitution as a member of the armed forces, including the second amendment, yet this same government is concered about it's own iconic, historic rifle of the greatest war it has ever fought "ending up in the wrong hands." Are you kidding me!?!?!? Who is going to use an M1 for a crime!? It has like NO street cred with the "gansta" crowd. Seriously though, VERY few people are going to use anything like a garand for any ilegal activity.
the phrase "falling into the wrong hands" is total bullshit the "wrong hands" cant be a gang because why would they be walking down the street with half a rifle coming out of thier pants?
or a murderer. what dumbasses would think that because these rifles are maybe going to lower a good amount in price be a better option? the "wrong hands" can easily buy a semi 22 or a pistol either way its a bullet the gun wouldnt change a thing.

I really hate the Obama administration. They think outlawing guns completely will solve all of the violence problems. Outlawing guns will only deprive law abiding citizens of their guns and also deprive them of a form of self-defense. Probably 99% of the criminals get their guns illegally from the black market or from other countries, such as Mexico.
@Gettysburg20thMaine Obama isn't taking guns away from anyone, no matter how much you like to believe. This ban is to keep South Korea from selling the guns back to the US because we let them borrow it. Would you be OK if I borrowed something from you and tried to sell it back to your brother?
@DeadFishFactory If you read the description, it says we're not buying them back because they think it will pose a threat to the American community by falling into the wrong hands. You are right about Obama not trying to completely ban guns though, I made the mistake there. He doesn't like to talk about his views on guns so nobody knows if he really wants to completely ban them or not.
I dont think any street gangs , would want Garand , snap your fingers off whenyou put the feeder clip. I like the carbines ! 30 cal for dropping wild pigs and goats
The CMP carbine supply dried up and this cock-bag administration is holding up 700K carbines. What an asshole, they are ours, part of the lend lease agreement with the ROK. President shit for brains should have no say in the matter but he feels compelled to rule like a dictator. It will be an honor to vote against him for the second time next November.
With these fine old rifles, American soldiers fought the enemy from mountain to mountain in the wars. It was incredible how far those fine rifles and those young soldiers with their keen eyesight could reach out and take the enemy out of combat. Here's hoping and PRAYING that a different administration will let those rifles come in. A RON PAUL would for SURE have them coming in to America to dealers for purchase by those of us who want them. Here's hoping and PRAYING.
There is no reason not to allow these fine old rifles to be imported. They are only an 8 round clip at max. NO MORE can be put into one than that. They are fine pieces of history. They should be imported by FFL dealers and sold to the public with papers the way we buy all our other firearms from gun dealers. What could possibly be wrong with that. It would be good for all involved and would already be done where it not for this LEFTIST COMMIE government. They all ought to be HUNG.
@KJV1611ASV1901 I hear ya man! all their intentions are is to be able to control us so that without guns? we cannot rebel against Obama and his cronies he's nothing but a low-life freedom hating freedom taking asshole trying to enlave us all I MEAN ALL OF US, I can't wait till 2012 election I hope he doesn't get another term before he destroys this country before we know it. @Kakkerot86 Thanks much for your reply. Sure wold be nice for so many of those fine old rifles to find their way to the hands of collectors here even if it had to go through FFL dealers, papers, control by govt. etc. STILL, I have just a "good shooter" grade Springfield Armory and I wouldn't take anything for it. THose venerable old rifles could take a man out of the fight just as FAR as the soldier could see that enemy. If the enemy was hit he was killed or badly hurt and out of the fight.
This makes my blood boil. My ultimate plan is round up all the Liberals in this country and ship them back to Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America, or anywhere in the world besides the US. It might be an expensive process, but a great investment because it would save us trillions in the long run, as well as our freedom. Yea sounds like a plan to me.
just got a email about this and looks like Obama signed and banned these
Dear fellow Patriot,
Nearly 1 million American rifles.
Banned by a stroke of Barack Obama’s pen.
In a move unprecedented in American history, the Obama Administration quietly banned the re-importation of nearly one million American made M1 Garand and Carbine rifles.
On this particular issue it's not a big deal. It would of cost US Job. Kahr purchased Auto Ordinance and they manufacture the m1 carbine here in USA. You can buy one off Cheaper than Direct direct to FFL. I don't see how Auto Ordinance would stay open if all these came to market.
Saw a brand new carbine in the shop this weekend and it was 800.00!!!! Just ten years ago I bought and sold one for 150.00 and it was a real one from the late 40's. I'd like to get another if we can get them for a reasonable price.
I think I know why the Leftist anti-2nd Amdt people don't want the M1 imported
1. it's an "assault rifle," so it would add to the armaments of the People against a tyrannical govt
2. It doesn't have ANY of the cosmetic features they've been using as excuses to ban firearms they don't want us to have, like a pistol grip, a 2nd hand pistol grip, a folding stock, a "high-capacity" magazine, etc. It just looks like a hunting rifile to the average person
Hmm... I live in Montana... last week I walked into a store, gave a man 900 dollars and walked out with a brand new Bushmaster AR15...
If I'm allowed to do that... what the hell would be the problem with me having a god damned Garand? Its not like they're a part of this nation's history or anything.
@dunklersoldat The problem with it is that it means there are more weapons in the United States in the hands of law abiding citizens. It means that there will be more guns here per person than there are now. It means that it will be easier for more people to have a rifle. What I stated is how the anti-gun people see it, not me.
@dunklersoldat Ya but you live in Montana if you went on a rampage you would be more likely to hit a cow than a person. Haha but seriously this is bullshit.
@dunklersoldat The federal goverment plans on destroying the constitution and implementing martial law. The garrand is a symbol, along with colonial muskets, of patriotism against tyranny.
30-06 is a high powered caliber, and the garrand holds 8 rnd clips.
The federal government doesnt want the public to have anything like the garrand when Shit hits the fan.
I have the Russian Mosin negant for $100 a copy that is my long range go to gun should I need to hunt in a WROL. That is a great weapon in enough hands you have a force to recon with so not allowing the M1 is a lame argument since we already have so many other weapons at our disposal. You can build your own 50 cal can buy ammo at a gun show so if you really wanted a LONG range gun that too can be had by any half ass machinists.
This is a sad situation but we still have the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program). I bought my Garand from the CMP and it truly is the best place to buy a Garand for the money you pay. M1 rifles will only last so long, and the CMP will only be allowed to sell them for so cheap for so long, hop on it while you can.
I can't imagine criminals using M1 Garands to commit crimes. They require special clips, are very expensive, and require experience to use. Not a criminal's preferred gun.
I want one of each at least! I just hope the importers dont take advantage of all of the collectors and charge outragous prices for them. In those quantities, just about everyone in this country who would want to collect them should be able to get them for something in the $300 range. You know the importers will be getting them for under $100 a copy, and that to me is a fair profit especially in this economy.
@martykean1967 If they are owned by the Korean government then they will get the highest price for them as they can. Then the importer will do the same; the free market. I bought mine that came from Korea about 15 or 17 years ago for about $220. The stock was in really ugly rough shape, so I refinished it to look still rough, but not so crappy. It's an awesome rifle. I have about 600 rounds of ammo for it, 250 of it being old armor piecing.
@jbranstetter04 To my knowlege they were given to S.Korea by the U.S. Government. But even if they were purchased, they were probably bought at cost. With that quantity comming into the market it will drive the cost down. That in combination with the probability that importers will get them in huge lots of several thousand at a time, they're going to get them cheap. They usually charge 3X what their cost is. They pay $35 for a Mosin Nagant and sell for just over $100 bucks. I can't wait!
@Robbob9933 Thanks for sending me that video update but I dont see where your getting the $2000 bucks a copy from. If the sale of these rifles is approved the maket will be flooded driving the prices DOWN from where they currently are. The last I checked about a year ago for a hand select was $1100. Plus these are not RARE rifles. We already have plenty. Many of the lesser desireables are under the $600 range. Anyone who may know something on this besides Robbob9933 and I please weigh in!
@martykean1967 First, as first planned these would only be available through the Civilian Marksmanship Program and I doubt this would chage. Second, these are in pristine (never been fired) condition and include all accessories that would be issued to a soldier or Marine. The CMP currently sells "Field Grade, next to lowest grade" for $700. CMP Special (top grade= new production from stores) can be found starting at $5000 (for rifles graded for this level of quality).
@martykean1967 Also, I find it odd that the State Department and not ICE (Immegration and Customs Enforcement) is able to stop this as the State Department has not statutory authority in this area. Plus they are using an expired law to boot (The "Assult Weapons Ban"). The M1 Garand would never have fallen under that law to begin with where the M1 Carbines might have depending on the magazines included in the issue kit.
@Robbob9933 Thats awsome that they've NEVER been used! I want one of each the Garand and the Carbine if they ever do come to market. But I still think they'll be at a lower price even in unissued condition. I'm familiar with the CMP and I've never seen the $5000 price tag but I'm sure your right. But again, thats in todays market. If suddenly there's roughly 1 million of these rifles available in perfect condition, the prices will drop quickly. They might start at $2000 but I'll by mine at $750.
@martykean1967 Unlike current CMP sales, these will come with slings, cleaning kits, and tools. They will also be nicely coated in cosmoline. The quantity involved keeps changing, I've heard numbers ranging from 200K - 500K for Garands and 100K - 300K for Carbines. I got dibs on a pair also :)
@Robbob9933 I hear ya man! If they do begin to sell them here especially with the economy down, I think waiting several months after the BUZZ has died down, the price will come down too (I hope). You never know either, they might even sell at a discount if you buy a "set " of them! Most guys who like military weapons will want one of each and a savy sales staff might pick up on that. They'll want to move the product as fast as possible so their initial investment isnt tied up for too long.
really & truely, when all 18 yr olds go down to register for the selective services, they should be given a garand just in case. now there's a good idea, garands are as american as apple pie and muthafuken chevrolet!!!

3. Banning its imporation was too easy

Hmm... I live in Montana... last week I walked into a store, gave a man 900 dollars and walked out with a brand new Bushmaster AR15...
If I'm allowed to do that... what the hell would be the problem with me having a god damned Garand? Its not like they're a part of this nation's history or anything.
dunklersoldat 1 year ago 9
@dunklersoldat The problem with it is that it means there are more weapons in the United States in the hands of law abiding citizens. It means that there will be more guns here per person than there are now. It means that it will be easier for more people to have a rifle. What I stated is how the anti-gun people see it, not me.

@jbranstetter04 I know... I was being sarcastic. :D
Me and a friend are going into business up here building AR15s and AK47s. Should be a good time.

Didn't my grandparents pay for those rifles, through taxation?
quaffer22 1 year ago 11
@quaffer22 Yes, but depending on the situation, the Korean government might have paid the US government for them.
jbranstetter04 1 year ago
@quaffer22 Or by purchasing War Bonds? Let's not forget that! Again...it's sickening!

You know the importers will be getting them for under $100 a copy, and that to me is a fair profit especially in this economy.
martykean1967 1 year ago
@martykean1967 If they are owned by the Korean government then they will get the highest price for them as they can. Then the importer will do the same; the free market. I bought mine that came from Korea about 15 or 17 years ago for about $220. The stock was in really ugly rough shape, so I refinished it to look still rough, but not so crappy. It's an awesome rifle. I have about 600 rounds of ammo for it, 250 of it being old armor piecing.
jbranstetter04 1 year ago
@jbranstetter04 To my knowlege they were given to S.Korea by the U.S. Government. But even if they were purchased, they were probably bought at cost. With that quantity comming into the market it will drive the cost down. That in combination with the probability that importers will get them in huge lots of several thousand at a time, they're going to get them cheap. They usually charge 3X what their cost is. They pay $35 for a Mosin Nagant and sell for just over $100 bucks. I can't wait!
martykean1967 1 year ago
@martykean1967 These will sell for close to $2000 each.
Robbob9933 7 months ago
@Robbob9933 Thanks for sending me that video update but I dont see where your getting the $2000 bucks a copy from. If the sale of these rifles is approved the maket will be flooded driving the prices DOWN from where they currently are. The last I checked about a year ago for a hand select was $1100. Plus these are not RARE rifles. We already have plenty. Many of the lesser desireables are under the $600 range. Anyone who may know something on this besides Robbob9933 and I please weigh in!
martykean1967 6 months ago
@martykean1967 First, as first planned these would only be available through the Civilian Marksmanship Program and I doubt this would chage. Second, these are in pristine (never been fired) condition and include all accessories that would be issued to a soldier or Marine. The CMP currently sells "Field Grade, next to lowest grade" for $700. CMP Special (top grade= new production from stores) can be found starting at $5000 (for rifles graded for this level of quality).
Robbob9933 6 months ago
@martykean1967 Also, I find it odd that the State Department and not ICE (Immegration and Customs Enforcement) is able to stop this as the State Department has not statutory authority in this area. Plus they are using an expired law to boot (The "Assult Weapons Ban"). The M1 Garand would never have fallen under that law to begin with where the M1 Carbines might have depending on the magazines included in the issue kit.
Robbob9933 6 months ago
@Robbob9933 Thats awsome that they've NEVER been used! I want one of each the Garand and the Carbine if they ever do come to market. But I still think they'll be at a lower price even in unissued condition. I'm familiar with the CMP and I've never seen the $5000 price tag but I'm sure your right. But again, thats in todays market. If suddenly there's roughly 1 million of these rifles available in perfect condition, the prices will drop quickly. They might start at $2000 but I'll by mine at $750.
martykean1967 6 months ago
@martykean1967 Unlike current CMP sales, these will come with slings, cleaning kits, and tools. They will also be nicely coated in cosmoline. The quantity involved keeps changing, I've heard numbers ranging from 200K - 500K for Garands and 100K - 300K for Carbines. I got dibs on a pair also :)
Robbob9933 6 months ago
@Robbob9933 I hear ya man! If they do begin to sell them here especially with the economy down, I think waiting several months after the BUZZ has died down, the price will come down too (I hope). You never know either, they might even sell at a discount if you buy a "set " of them! Most guys who like military weapons will want one of each and a savy sales staff might pick up on that. They'll want to move the product as fast as possible so their initial investment isnt tied up for too long.

It's such a sad state of affairs when we can't even bring home a rifle that is synonymous with liberation.
