I heard of a doc who seriously guilt-tripped moms about their weight gain, and even would step on the back of the scale to try to scare them. Seriously, like you're not insecure enough about putting on weight??? Chill out and just be supportive during the post-partum weight loss!!!
I should probably be emailing the link to this video to my OB, because she *insists* that I need to *lose* weight while pregnant. Sure, I'm overweight to begin with but pregnancy is no time to diet..seriously.
Maybe she means she wanted you to be fit and healthy. Our culture kind of equates the two things lose weight=be fit, so sometimes people say one when they mean the other thinking it's understood. If you're a new mom, congrats and you're probably gonna be too busy to answer, but just know that we hope you had a healthy and happy experience.
@somethinguncreative No, my OB wanted me to lose weight because my height/weight didn't jive with her rules. She wanted me on an extremely limited/strict diet. In her words, nobody with a BMI of 25 should gain anything. They should strive to lose as much as possible. The woman was, indeed, crazy. I ended up changing OBs because of this. I did end up having a very positive end of my pregnancy once my self esteem recovered. I am the proud mommy of a beautiful almost-6 month old little boy.
