I roll alliance, and even I have a problem with it.
1. From personal experience, I have found that people say very hypocritical things when raging. And Thrall... say what you will, but he was pretty pissed at that moment
2. Thrall is not the kind of person to exhibit horrible torture and death. Read Lord of the Clans. He gave Blackmoore a chance to surrender, remember? Then Blackmoore got drunk and threw Taretha's head over the castle wall.
@bdoherty44 i actually agree with you (i play both factions), he was pissed! That was the rage that he had held in for i dont know how long and maybe he just did what was best for his faction? i mean it gotta be though leading a faction if you are trying to be neutral! :P
Varian is whatever…..On top of that even if Varian was enslaved by Orcs and you’re making this argument about Thrall and saying that Thrall is a hypocrite, the humans completely betrayed the Horde and deserve NOTHING BUT DEATH :D
@lovintrollin maybe so but alliance players can still dislike it? (i do think that pride should be able to have his own opinion) but i would never call thrall a hypocrite (playing both factions)
2 points 1 thrall says that these people deserve a fate worse than death as thrall advisor i say that this is met i mean hell how sucky would it be 2 be that guy NEXT 2 thrall all the time u know i mean NOONE knows what thats like doing like all the work and never getting credit and 2 this has nothing directly to do with the lore because even if the advisor wasnt in a fate worse than death being a hypocrite as a SPLIT part of thrall doesnt break the lore? just means thrall a hypocrite n hes not
@jaerauq77 he were pissed off, u an say anything if you're pissed of, and hes not a, to quote, "pussy" he is just kind. thats it, AND not a douche (sry if my spelling isnt that correct i am only 13 :P)
Thrall is bad ass. With bad ass story lines in cata... With a wife... And what is varian doing all this time while the world is crumbling? Sitting on his fat ass in is dumb sh*t castle looking pretty, While the horde gets their hands dirtty.
@Crusader669 If you want to argue this, you have to address what I'm actually saying and not some imaginary opponent who you can just repeat your talking points to. I can point out how you're mischaracterizing the Alliance and the people there, but frankly, there's no point: What you're saying is **totally irrelevant** to whether or not Thrall would be a hypocrite, and if you actually thought about it for a moment, you'd realize that.
@Crusader669 You're obviously not even trying to comprehend my point. People are not nations. A government apologizing for the wrongs (ACTUAL wrongs, not "wrongs" in the eyes of others) of a past incarnation of itself is not at all comparable to a single person owning up to and atoning for their OWN wrongs that they themselves are directly responsible for. As for "morally grey" yet "utterly necessary," sorry, but the implications of those terms contradict each other; you can't have it both ways.
@Crusader669 But you know what ISN'T so "morally grey" but is in fact utterly black? Plotting to wipe out all the living and ENABLING those who makes such plots.
@Crusader669 You accuse ME of "baiting" for pursuing a topic that you don't want to discuss (yet you continue to reply with some unconvincing defenses) while you unleash attacks on CATHOLICS?! Wow. As for the notion that the Horde attracts people because they don't like perfection: The "tough punk semi-bad guys" appeal to some; fine, but where it goes overboard is that they then try to JUSTIFY their behavior. You're not paying attention if you think otherwise; heck, that's what YOU'RE doing.
@Crusader669 No, there is a GIGANTIC difference between nations and people. For instance, slavery: Apologies done, but there shall and should never be "reparations" for people who never lived through it taken from those who never imposed it. As for your examples, Hiroshima, bin Laden, etc.: Are you calling those things WRONGS, hmm? Because THAT'S what the topic was, NOT whether someone's "feelings were hurt!" Do you even TRY to understand others' views? Do you even fully READ others' posts??
@Crusader669 Are you SERIOUSLY comparing the U.S., say, aiding a relatively small group of people who oppose a common enemy to entering into what amounts to inviting an obviously evil and relatively powerful government into what amounts to a super-alliance more closely knit than NATO? Absurd.
Now, if you don't want to discuss Thrall's alliance with those who want all the living to be purged because it's off-topic and we've already agreed about the whole avatar of anger thing, fine. (continues)
@Crusader669 (...) However, if you cannot leave it at that and have to slip in (absurd) defenses of his dubious actions, don't attack others for supposedly "baiting" you into this. That's not so fine. It's also not fine if the reason you avoid the topic is because you know deep down Thrall's got serious problems but you don't want to admit it (as do too many other Horde fanboys). (continues)
@Crusader669 (...) Not that I dislike the character: He's interesting, has some good background and story to him, etc., but the forced and ham-handed attempts by some to label him as this high-minded saint when he does such obviously wrong things (obvious in-story, too, not just from our wider perspective) is irrational and overplayed.
@Crusader669 So you "don't really care to debate about" points that you would inevitably fail in refuting because it's painfully obvious that Thrall's a hypocrite who is inexcusably blinded by the obviously totally untrue maxim "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"? You don't want to debate things that would lead you to conclusions you don't like? Prefer to keep yourself in the dark? And then you smugly say "Tsk glad to see you admit your lack of knowledge" ? Wow.
The problem here though is that it's pretty hypocritical for Thrall, an ex-slave, to have slavery and gladiator matches be legal in Durotar. I'll admit that I haven't read the comics so maybe I'm wrong and they aren't legal. @ Tuhljin Thrall only accepted the forsaken into the horde because the Earthen ring told him to do so. I'm sure he did know of at least SOME of the evil things the forsaken and blood elves were doing at the time, but the orcs had been there before. I think he felt their races were similar and so wanted to help them.
@paddocks91 "Thrall only accepted the forsaken into the horde because the Earthen ring told him to do so."
Bad advice is bad advice, no matter who gives it, and the decision was ultimately Thrall's. Thrall to this day hasn't properly reacted to information revealed about the Forsaken and Blood Elves (who Kael'Thas or not are still living in a repressive, evil tyrannical state if Silvermoon is any indication).
@Crusader669 I don't know all the details, but Pride's point still stands since Reghar did buy and sell gladiators - at least, he sold Valeera to another gladiator master and I'm fairly certain there's no implication that that was the only time he ever did such a thing. wowpedia dot org/Rehgar
@Tuhljin (P.S. Yes, Thrall was split into parts, that one represented anger or whatever, blah, so Pride's evidence is lacking, but if you know much about the lore and aren't one of those faction snobs who just thinks your "side" or your favorite character can do no wrong, then you've got to admit that Thrall is seriously flawed. Allying with unabashed evil while covering up his eyes to pretend it's not there seems to be a habit of his: Sylvanas, Silvermoon....)
@Crusader669 And the humans that had Thrall fight for their amusement represent ALL humans, right? /sarc
Even if the honest answer to the question was "yes," which it absolutely is not, Thrall's still a hypocrite. And on a side note, also absurdly naive (worse than that, really) in regards to his tolerance (and worse) of uncontestably evil factions like the followers of Sylvanas. (And don't give me any crap about how not all "free-willed undead" are bad. I didn't paint it so broadly.)

Damn, this is sad and pathetic. GG on taking something out of context and blowing it out of proportion. You really should delete this video out of embarrassment.
You are a retard seriously , Thrall didn't know Jack shit about The Kings enslavement , he would kill his own kind to free someone in Slavery. (read the freaking whole story before making stupid shit.)
WoW lore... why does anyone... ANYONE take this crap seriously? THE WHOLE FUCKING THING IS ALL A MASSIVE RIPOFF. Nothing is remotely original whatsoever... absolute zero creativity.
@WinterXL ...that said, just to shit on this video: apparently Rehgar was happy to see Wrynn and others escape, and gave up his career knowing it was wrong... and decided to serve the people by supplying his knowledge and experience to the Warchief. Basically, Rehgar repented and Blackmoore (or w/e) didn't.
@MegaYognaught lol challenging a man's intellect because you do not enjoy his content? man reports lore all the time its part of his job to find thes discrepencies.
just me thinking corect me if im wrong, wasent Thralls advicer whatever his name whas (not good on lesser charracter names) part of Twilights Hammer? or are im mixing up people here?
logrosh AKA king varian was found on a shore and seen by orcs who watched him fight a crocklisk with a piece of wood and win so regthar knoked him out and took him to orgrimar along with broll bearmantle and a blood elf (cant remeber name) and fought at dire maul and won and got named logrosh the elf was sold and ecscaped from her tuaran master and went to thunder bluff to save logrosh and broll but they ecscaped and ran to ashenvastle but in the end no varien was not ownd by regthar only uncaus
It's true that that story has been lacking. It's part of the reason why I quit playing WoW when Cata came out. Like Jesse stated, wasn't the maelstrom supposed to be linked to the Well of Eternity?
I just find it funny how Chris Metzen has been called out many times for all the inconsistencies. But, we should cut him some slack, cause he has been writing the story for so many years for Warcraft. Actually, not just Warcraft; Starcraft, and Diablo as well.
dude youre taking this wayyyyy to seriously, cause wow. even just argueing over lore in a game where lore isnt even that important to the gameplay. but nerd raging? seriously?
the dude who enslaved Wrynn is redeemed where as Blackmore was mad to the core , if u don't belive me than looky on the wiky newbie as for black more anyone who read lord of the clans knows how "sane" he was, i man cutting your own lover's head off is ...not normal as to the rest of u who let your selfs be influenced by every one that posts a video or their opinion i suggest u go investigate first! BTW dude GIVE UP ...i don't like nerd raging over shit but u really tick me off :)
i'd also like to point out that earthfury saved the memory ridden varian from that crokolisk… and gave him something rather than let him die and forgotten! JESUS learn your lore man you even do lore for noobs, you sir are a noob!
@ConaaGabba more or les that is the case , but idiot is too harsh , thick headed, dens or even Slow are much better adverbs :D , pride is hardheaded as a bull he dose not get what thrall is saying and i'm nnot going to explain , but well regarding Reghar , unlike black more he has seen the error of his ways ...eventually and it was time enough so he wouldn't have to die , where as Dratkmore died just as mad as he was in life so isn't there a diference ? And yes Pride is a bloody noob !
Pride... He said: "All are quilty, ALL MUST PAY!".
Since when is "ALL" not Thrall?
He knows he's a hypocrite, he knows he deserves a horrific death, but the combined force of the Earthen Ring and the Cenarion Circle are the only ones who can "SAVE THE WORLD!!!", and Thrall is the most powerful Shaman.
I got this from a video of 10 minutes, and I don't even play WoW anymore! :D.
Problem is, Mr. Pride failed to recognize that Thrall is SUPPOSE to act like that during those scenes. It's the entire point, those are his inner thoughts, we all feel those at times.
@Whysoseriousson1 his soul/spirit/whatever was split. it was explained very clearly multiple times during the quest line that all of the quotes, and visions, and emotions are buried deep down within thrall.
for instance if you have buried your love of little boys deep down inside yourself... does that make you less of perv?
does a part of thrall's soul/spirit/whatever being angry at slavery, and wishing anyone that does it, or condones it deserves worse than death...
@slimj091 while at the same time enslaving the king of stormwind to fight in his arena for his personal pleasure being a bit of a hypocrite?
for as much as he was preaching "peace" in wotlk and cata.. has thrall ever properly apologized to Wrynn in the lore for his enslavement, and being forced to fight in the Org arena?
I was this close to cussing you out and start bitching in defense of Thrall until that last part. Glad you don't see Thrall as a hypocrit and that Blizz is just being lore retarded again.
I mean, you weren't being at all serious right? Cuz I'd have to hurt you Pride...
Jk, but nice way to rile a few feathers here and there among the horde Fandom.
and the fact is that thrall is a fucking computer generated image with a script programmed in his AI thingy so why make such a big fucking deal for something that isnt even real
dumbass, remove his video is wrong, the good guy(jesse) did it right, just get rid of this trash, if they dont c other one then they get wrong impression.. stupid
"But the point here, is that the very thing that got me to play the ONLY MMORPG id even consider touching, the story, has been getting worse and worse as time goes on by these little tinges of inconsistency and it's not good."
Agreed. I disagree with some of the other points, but on this you're spot on.
pretty sure blizz's excuse for this is that its just a part of thrall his rage and not his full thoughts and he doesnt fully feel that way...sounds like something they would say
@Sirandrewthe7th well if you read the garrosh short story they want the forest for lumber and then for the land to grow food on. sounds stupid to me but its all their
Pride raises a very valid concern; the idea of slave rings in Durotar was stupid to begin with, it clashes so deeply with Thrall's character. UNDERGROUND (ie. illegal) slave rings I get, but so open? And with honoured Horde members? That's hard to swallow. There is not point ot rage at fictional characters of course, but the writers need to tighten these things up.
Of course, in the end, you could just argue that when Thrall made this last comment, he wasn't himself, but rather his own rage.
@nakenmil Also you cannot expect Thrall to be some god who never does anything bad, sometimes he has to do things he may not like, that benefit the horde as a whole. Noone is perfect, he is just a man, err Orc.
i just dont see how this would mean that Chris Metzen made a mistake in the Lore plot or anything like that.
Wether or not you agree with Pride, you can't help but give some kudos for picking a title and subject able to fire up the discussion. Too bad it derailed from the point of Blizzard slacking in their lore consistency to a rather pointless ( as in entirely subjective) discussion of horde vs. alliance.
1) Rehgar was a better slave master than Blackmoore. He actually did let Varian and company go free.
2) This IS Thrall's unrestrained rage, anger that he has suppressed. He also says he'll make war on Varian because thats what he wants, but he's given a hard effort into making peace with the Alliance, even after Wrathgate when Varian declared war.
What Thrall says on the Fire plane =/= His actual rational thoughts.
I agree with you pride that the lore was awesome up to bc but has started to fall off starting with wrath. I know pride you are a little biased towards alliance but I agree with your assesment of the incosistent lore holes here. I still call bs on your BA ratings tho :P
sorry cant agree with you Pride because his anger is atleast made a 1000 times stronger and all his hatred was stronger. it is kinda when people are drunk and they say things they will regret later
Always been a fan of Pride since WoWRadio BUT this is so damn stupid if he actually took notice to the damn quest he would realise that it was his Pure Rage !...
Lets just get one thing straight. Thrall is such an amazing epic character and leader, that non of the alliance deep-shit leaders could ever live up to. Blizzard attempted to make a Thrall equivalent with Varian and fucking failed! Varian compared to Thrall sucks balls.
Since Thrall was too cool, blizzard removed him from the position of Horde.
Then they introduced Garosh who sucks just as hard as Varian in order to even out the coolness level of both factions.
@searlesdaniel Just because i did not include the facts in my comment dose not mean its not based on the facts. Blizzard themselves said, that they do realize that Horde feels like one big family united by Thrall. Alliance dose not have that, there's no definite leader in the alliance just like there is no "For the Horde" equivalent.
So i draw my conclusion based on this FACT!
Plus its the audiences OPINION which decides "whats hot and whats not", and Thrall i deffo 100% cooler then Varian!
@Xsifilad Im sorry I offended you and your horde fanaticism but I love thrall personally but to say that Varian is a failure is a little off. As for your claim on the fan base's opinion on thrall and Varian I ask you what percentage of the wow fanbase is vocal on forums and attendes blizzcon, and the percentage is shockingly low. So, how can you claim that the fans like thrall more that Varian, have you met all of them and asked?
@searlesdaniel There was only place for 500 signs so i could fit in the whole thing. You were saying how you "like" that my comment is based purely on my personal opinion, and i was saying that just because a comment has a subjective nature dose not mean that it can be completely nullified.
So no, i did not meet entire wow community and asked them what their opinion on Thrall vs. Varian.
@Xsifilad I agree.. Instead of making the Alliance alittle better or more interesting, they tried to down grade the Horde to the level of suck. Bad writting IMO
True. Wyrn is a warmongering asshole like garosh, bouth are unlikeable unlike thrall whose goal is a lasting peace.

thrall would never enslave no-one
plus the line he says is when he is enraged and trapped by the fire-druid curse thingy, and he wasnt exactly lucid.
plus he had plenty of reasons to be pissed since the only family thrall had was taretha foxton (a human) who was decapitated for helping him ....

He was anger when he said that, pure unadulterated anger. Angry people say things they don't necessarily mean, and things they end up regretting.
I agree that Thrall's lore has gotten lame and sloppy, but that part, at least, is fairly decent.

And yes Pride is a bloody noob !

Pride... He said: "All are quilty, ALL MUST PAY!".
Since when is "ALL" not Thrall?
He knows he's a hypocrite, he knows he deserves a horrific death, but the combined force of the Earthen Ring and the Cenarion Circle are the only ones who can "SAVE THE WORLD!!!", and Thrall is the most powerful Shaman.

a6s3 8 months ago
@Whysoseriousson1 his soul/spirit/whatever was split. it was explained very clearly multiple times during the quest line that all of the quotes, and visions, and emotions are buried deep down within thrall.
for instance if you have buried your love of little boys deep down inside yourself... does that make you less of perv?
does a part of thrall's soul/spirit/whatever being angry at slavery, and wishing anyone that does it, or condones it deserves worse than death...
slimj091 8 months ago
@slimj091 while at the same time enslaving the king of stormwind to fight in his arena for his personal pleasure being a bit of a hypocrite?
for as much as he was preaching "peace" in wotlk and cata.. has thrall ever properly apologized to Wrynn in the lore for his enslavement, and being forced to fight in the Org arena?
slimj091 8 months ago
I was this close to cussing you out and start bitching in defense of Thrall until that last part. Glad you don't see Thrall as a hypocrit and that Blizz is just being lore retarded again.

Of course, in the end, you could just argue that when Thrall made this last comment, he wasn't himself, but rather his own rage.
nakenmil 8 months ago
@nakenmil Also you cannot expect Thrall to be some god who never does anything bad, sometimes he has to do things he may not like, that benefit the horde as a whole. Noone is perfect, he is just a man, err Orc.
i just dont see how this would mean that Chris Metzen made a mistake in the Lore plot or anything like that.
Soetzombie 8 months ago
Wether or not you agree with Pride, you can't help but give some kudos for picking a title and subject able to fire up the discussion. Too bad it derailed from the point of Blizzard slacking in their lore consistency to a rather pointless ( as in entirely subjective) discussion of horde vs. alliance.
jellegaard 8 months ago
1) Rehgar was a better slave master than Blackmoore. He actually did let Varian and company go free.
2) This IS Thrall's unrestrained rage, anger that he has suppressed. He also says he'll make war on Varian because thats what he wants, but he's given a hard effort into making peace with the Alliance, even after Wrathgate when Varian declared war.
What Thrall says on the Fire plane =/= His actual rational thoughts.
Just my two cents.

TADAAAA
Xsifilad 8 months ago
@Xsifilad I like how you base nothing in this on fact and your commnt is driven by pure opinion parading itself as the truth
searlesdaniel 8 months ago
@searlesdaniel Just because i did not include the facts in my comment dose not mean its not based on the facts. Blizzard themselves said, that they do realize that Horde feels like one big family united by Thrall. Alliance dose not have that, there's no definite leader in the alliance just like there is no "For the Horde" equivalent.
So i draw my conclusion based on this FACT!
Plus its the audiences OPINION which decides "whats hot and whats not", and Thrall i deffo 100% cooler then Varian!
Xsifilad 8 months ago
@Xsifilad Im sorry I offended you and your horde fanaticism but I love thrall personally but to say that Varian is a failure is a little off. As for your claim on the fan base's opinion on thrall and Varian I ask you what percentage of the wow fanbase is vocal on forums and attendes blizzcon, and the percentage is shockingly low. So, how can you claim that the fans like thrall more that Varian, have you met all of them and asked?
searlesdaniel 8 months ago
@searlesdaniel There was only place for 500 signs so i could fit in the whole thing. You were saying how you "like" that my comment is based purely on my personal opinion, and i was saying that just because a comment has a subjective nature dose not mean that it can be completely nullified.
So no, i did not meet entire wow community and asked them what their opinion on Thrall vs. Varian.
Xsifilad 8 months ago
@Xsifilad I agree.. Instead of making the Alliance alittle better or more interesting, they tried to down grade the Horde to the level of suck. Bad writting IMO
