@Mike16921 I'm from the UK and have grown up with the term being used to describe poor whites from rural area's. My Dads side of the family are Irish and as well as using the word Culchie(s), they'd use Redneck as well. So that's what I base my opinion on. I asked where you are from because if you're not from the UK or Ireland then you wont know how the name is used over here. Wikipedia isn't really a viable source of evidence either, anyone can write up anything and post it up on there.

@lordblighty I'm from Ireland! I don't know what part of Ireland your family are from but the word Redneck is not used in Ireland, I'm 34 and never heard someone use Redneck. Culchie however is used, we call people who live in the countryside Culchies, boggers etc. There are two types of descriptions, culchie and townie. Just because your dad uses the term Redneck does not prove it to be true! Wikipedia is a viable and world recognised source and lay ppl are not allowed to post on it!

@bazbonehead Of course you are told to be submissive, employers in the US tend to take this policy too. The main reason for that is defense against litigation. Unfortunately there are always criminals who will attempt to kill you even after robbing the place. Waiting for the police might mean being carried out in a bodybag. Not everyone is willing to take that chance and shouldn't have to. And don't give us this bollocks about the UK having 'civilized' criminals.
