Ugh, after watching this it always remindes me of how great/fun this game is. I need to play it again and maybe do some searching for user created levels and episodes.
YouTube updating their video player has caused the video to be out of sync on 360p mode. Unfortunately you have to watch in either 720p or 240p for the video to play the way it was uploaded.
I bought this some time ago on gog, and for whatever reason it runs in a choppy manner. I don't know dosbox whatsoever, so if anyone can think of a solution to get it running like in this video please tell me
Such a shame the source code for this hasn't been released yet, thanks to atari/infogrames or whoever owns the source now being unable to make a definitive statement as it still exists on one of the devs hard drive, yet an unclear copyright situation prohibits him from releasing it :(
BTW, do you know how to get rid of those "right hands of the devil" when they start strangling you? In harder difficulties, they seem to just stay on until they kill you.
I know you said you recorded this at a lower resolution, then played it back with DosBox's CPU cycles manually set at 800,000 instructions per millisecond, but exactly how did you do that? I'm trying to do the same and can't figure it out.
@eVoluci0n: At the command-line before entering Blood, type without quotes 'cycles=10000' or a similar number, which will turn the cycles on manual, regardless of DosBox's configuration settings. Start up Blood, then press Ctrl + F12 to increment the cycles counter by a set amount (you can change this in configuration).
Note that once you hit the physical limit of one of your real CPU's cores, it will start running in slow motion (which is fine if you're using the recorder to make a video).
@sammo5000 You need to make sure your audio sample rate is high enough. In the setup.exe for Blood, after accepting the sound settings, make sure it's set to use 16 Bit mixing, stereo sound, and a Mixing Rate of 44 Khz. The music should also be set to General MIDI with a MIDI Port of 0x330. Unless you have the current DosBOX Version 0.74 (where this is default), you need to also manually set the sample rate for SoundBlaster to 44100 in its configuration file.
I have it set on "Sound Blaster 16 or AWE32", Address 0x220, Interrupt 7, 8-bit DMA: 1, 16-bit DMA: 5.
If you mean actual hardware, not really. Integrated sound card should be fine, esp in today's era. I'm assuming you're using a relatively recent computer and running DosBOX for this and not running an older system using true DOS, right?
Does my audio in the video sound *significantly* better than your audio? If so, what does yours "sound like", that being the best way I can ask that.
@Ceekur Actually no I am not using DOS Box Nor is my system true DOS.I found a copy on the internet at a abandon ware website (call me a thief yes) And it runs perfectly on XP (which IS the platform I'm using).I found dosbox relativiely annoying. If you could PM me on how to run DOS Box correctly I might start using it.
the great great memories of this game!!!! the gritty, cold atmosphere, the spot on sound, good leveldesign, nice humor, great weapons, flawless action and loads of gore, this game has it all. I still await an fps that can top this classic...
nice blood skillz, I <3 Monolith Blood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I remember playing this in DOS around 1995ish maybe earlier I can't remember 100%, THE GOOD OLD DAYS!
@mantax55 Blood is basically a 4:3 full-screen game. Your best bet right now (unless someone can find a proper way to mimic wide) would be to set the game resolution to 1152 x 864 (the game's video mode menu), then have your monitor or dosbox stretch it to the edges. Unfortunately anything between 800x600 and 1280x1024 has the HUD sprite flicker due to a glitch.
It's the approximate number of cycles I found when DosBox is able to run Blood at 1280 x 1024 at a consistent 70 FPS. I just kept increasing the cycles to find how high I needed to go. It is far above the threshold of my actual CPU, but the resulting video is fine.
You're looking for the point when DosBox is running everything in slow-motion. This means all the frames are being displayed to be recorded.
I've never been able to get that to work actually. I type that in (and other warp codes, such as 'mario'), but nothing happens. I typed it correctly, as it doesn't appear as chat in the text area.
A long time ago, I used to get a pixelated dialog box that would appear asking me for the level, but nothing happened after I entered any number in either.
For my warping purposes, I've just been changing the e#m# within the Blood ini file.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong with the warps though.
Ah! Thanks. Google isn't turning up anything on blood demo recording, so I didn't know where to go to ask. I think the cheats for demo recording are broken.
Could you describe to me the process you use to record the demos? It would be much appreciated.
Since I can't get the warps to work, I change the ini file to go to the level I want to record. Start the command line with Blood -record filename.dem
I rename filename.dem to BLOOD0002.dem so it is the second natural demo that plays. When changing the video mode, the aiming view and actual aiming gets misaligned. You need to + and - the game window to fix it. However, this cannot be done during a demo.
I'll send a message with clearer steps of what I do to record.
Hey Jason. I just included the video link with a :) face in the message. I did get a surprised reply back from you though, so not sure why it couldn't display.
The whole game can be recorded this exact way, pretty much. It would take quite a while though, as the record rate is much slower than actual gameplay.

Hehe, there's a story behind that actually. On the computer I originally played Blood on (Pentium, 90 Mhz!), the mouse I used wasn't designed for frantic mouse movements and kept getting stuck at the wrong times (had little desk room to move the mouse too).
I eventually decided to rely on the keyboard to do my aiming. To this day, that habit and my obscure control scheme stuck (mostly older games) and I can control fairly well just using the keyboard. =D
The Temple rocked - love the monk chant in the background!

you don't, it just has more depth to views so it looks higher but the textures aren't high def or anything.
ilikemyhandsbloody 2 years ago
If you want to change the resolution you should edit the BLOOD.CFG file.
for example:
ScreenWidth = 1024
ScreenHeight = 768
But it would probably lag on most PC's, Blood isn't made for those resolutions.
ilikemyhandsbloody 2 years ago
Cool video, and I see you only use the keyboard. That's a challenge. I find this game regularly kicks my ass if the difficulty is any higher than 2.
How did you come up with the number of 800,000 cycles?
