3:06 Did anyone tell you about the curse of that tunnel? Apparently, if you go through there at midnight you won't come out. Haven't tried doing it before, and now I would can never know. Must be fake. :D
the tender brought back memories of when I went there on the USS Mckee as-41. Her one and only westpac. The haunch, the line of japanese girls just outside of the main gate next to the A club waiting for someone to escort them in for a night at the club, the mall a couple blocks away, the stores and shops, and my hangout the game room on the haunch.
Dang, I should've joined the Navy and got myself stationed there! lol. Yokosuka looks a lot more crowded than the last time I was there. One thing's for sure, Kinnick looks a lot better when I was there. We had to graduate in the OLD building, haha. Oh, and we had to go to Thew gym for PE all the time. I remember I always had to 'power walk' back to my classes. Same 'ol Club A, commissary and navy exchange.. tee hee.
Ahhh shiieeeeet I miss home. Lived there from 83-97. It looks so much different now. Gotta go there in the summer and hit up green hill if it's still there. YokoLoco
I was stationed at the hospital and I had a ball; great times. I live on and off base and was a frequent visiter at Toyko....the best of times in 1980 to 1982.
Brings back A LOT of memories...stationed there in 1966 and 1967...at the communications center. Memories i'll treasure forever!! Thanks for the video!!
hey keekei my name is perry martinez my dad was on the shiloh lived there for 3.5 years your video has helped me bring back memories that were long for gotten i am very great full i left about a year and a half ago keep making videos please i want to know what is going on
I was trying to look this up on google earth and saw this instead.. Brings back memories Especially fleet theater movies coming out a year later Lol. I was on INDY CV 6 Deuce baby 95-99, decommissioned in Bremerton Washington, Navy Days Ahhh... Thnks
You got both schools but not Sullivans! I really wanted to see the school and how its changed. I used to hang out at the High school, for some reason I remember it being a brick red. My dad was Masterchief of the Mess Hall across the street from the High School. Stationed 86-89. Does the bunkers still exist in front of the waterfront? I used to play in that park next to the McDonalds.
Hi Keekei - Did you say your last name is Nichols? That sounds familiar to me too. My dad was stationed on the Midway I think '87-90, his last name was Sawyer and he was a RM too. I like this video, it brings back a lot of memories, but it also looks different. I went to Yo-Hi, and I remember the last year we were there we got moved to the new building they made.
This is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing. My father was stationed here from 1972-76, and I attended Sullivans elementary school. Although I imagine a lot has changed in 40 years, I did recognize some names ... like the Benny Decker theater and the Red Devils! I truly enjoyed your video ... :o)
I visited there back in 2006 with my daughter. From 1986--1991 we used to live in VERY old duplex with so many roaches by heli port. lol And then moved to newer townhouse, Jones 62. I can't believe I still remember the address. The old dulex was gone and Yokosuka Base looked so different. My husband went to sea so many times including first Gulf war. I was a young busy mom then. I used to enjoy shopping and dining around Chuo station and Daiei.

@yukomattingly - your last name is so familiar. I was born and raised in Yokosuka. My dad was on the Midway, Frances Hammond, was also at Comsta and Comsubgroup 7. Parents last name is Nichols....
I knew they had more there than the A club. What a typical drunk sailor I was. A club to the Honch and stumble home to Midway. Loved every minute of it.
I remember when the highschool was the size of 2 trailers put together? A MIDDLE SCHOOL?!!? wooah,Did anyone remember the Youth Center? I think its the astro lounge now. Memories..
dunno why everyone wants Norfolk.... It's a nice base, but seriously, why stay within the States when you can travel around the world on someone else dime? Yokosuka here I come! Or so I'm hoping... verbals tomorrow! ^.^
oooh wow this is the best vid of Yokosuka Naval Base I've seen so far! An awesome tour, man! I miss and remember those places oh too well! Go YMS Dragons! *cheers* Thanks, keekei! I love this!
cool! used to live there in 1963 -went to 1st grade there. used to play in the tunnels letf over from the war. what an idyllic time in my life.fun place to be as a kid
