Piper was totally awesome. I'm a young 40yo now :-) I'm lucky as a 10yo kid I got to see Piper on tv and live at our local Auditorium just about every Monday night in SC. He was on Georgia Championship Wrestling and Mid-Atlantic Wrestling at the time and had classic feuds with Jack Brisco, Flair, Steamboat, Sgt. Slaughter, Greg Valentine, Don Muraco and so many more. All those guys were not even in their prime yet but not far off. Piper was my fav.
My dad was the principal of the high school his two eldest daughters went too. My dad and I saw him at wrestlemania 19. I just communicated with his daughter on facebook the other day
anyone else thinks it's ironic how 80's star Hulk Hogan ended up cheating his way to stardom and his family is ...well, you know?
....And Piper always did things his way and look how great he ended up...Makes you think...Maybe winning the belt on a main event Wrestlemania isnt all its cracked up to be afterall.....
@ericfried87 I sure did Fat Boy.. Your not her type. She does not like large guys that talk iish online because it makes them feel like they are kool.
I used to hate Roddy "Hot Rod" Piper to his inner core back during the 80's wrestling era, especially with his "Piper's Pits" promo; looking back, I really, really love this guy now...such a fun and entertaining time!
If I see Roddy today, I would buy him a nice lunch with his choice---and I ain't kiddin' any of you!...
Good luck and best wishes to you, Hot Rod!!!...YOU'RE THE GREATEST!!!
Roddy Piper's home life compared to Hogan's is just a perfect concrete example of much more of a man and a genuine human being Piper is. Hogan seems to be a good guy, but he definitely has a much more difficult time trying to separate his ego from what's really important. Piper was always the most engaging to watch, because he wasn't as predictable as Hogan.
You know, I am a mom of 3 teenage boys and I never approved of wrestling EXCEPT for when it came to this man. There was always something special about him and this video confirms it. Thanks for posting it and get well soon Roddy!
he has luck to be alive today. many wrestlers died before they reached 40 years. that's one of the bad things of stereoids. i like roddy piper. he's a funny guy . chews bubble gum and kicks ass!
Piper is the man! That was awesome! He never did win the WORLD title, but that was because WWF never wanted Hulk Hogan to lose in the 80's. Otherwise he would have had as many or more titles than Ric Flair.
@HeathInClearLake Not necessarily true. People would have got the Floyd Mayweather syndrome, where you tune in every Saturday or Pay per view to see somebody win the title from him.
Title history NWA Americas champion (Los Angeles) 1976-77 NWA Americas Tag (Los Angeles) 1976-78 NWA U.S. Champion (San Francisco) 1978 NWA Pacific Northwest tag champion 1978-80 (4) NWA Pacific Northwest champion 1979-80 (2) Canadian Tag (Vancouver) w/ Rick Martel 1980 NWA Mid-Atlantic TV champion 1980, 83 (2) NWA U.S. champion (Mid-Atlantic) 1981, 83 (2) NWA Mid-Atlantic champion 1981-82 WWF Intercontinental champion 1992 WCW United States Title.
I'm surprised at how soft-spoken he is. In all of the times I saw him on TV in both the WWF/E and WCW, he was really on hyper-drive. More proof that who you are in the ring isn't who you are in real life.
Noitce the pistol Roddy is carrying at 2:16. It's in a holster attched to his belt buckle behind his back.

During Piper's heyday as a heel, the WWF would have lost viewership with him as a titleholder. Basically, he was too good at being bad to be champ.
