@mikeybo13 I don't know, it's like the Steven Wilson of keyboards... and he can even do enjoyable solos!.. Not like, say, the Deadwing one xD Of course I'm joking
This song would fit in a New York private party in a spacious industrial kinda apartman or condo with tall ceiling, wood floor, white walls with white water radiators on them, and thick square glass blocks in the walls. Music is not too loud and people are chatting with a glass of wine in their hands. For some reason I see this image every time I listen this song.
@19Labrie63 You must be smoking something if you didn't like their last two albums. And I'm a long-time fan, too. Their only really poor album, to me, is Train of Thought, and even then I still like to hear it every now and again.
I rememebr that fantastic tune from my teenage DT days. Fantastic tune bringing to mind a more trippy version of Depeche Mode or some spacey quality synth-pop. Thanks!
it doesn't matter whether or not he can play it, it matters whether or not he DOES play it.
don't get me wrong, i love both rudess and moore, and i know that rudess has been responsible for some amazing stuff on octavarium and scenes from a memory. it's just his solos are pretty boring, and i much prefer moore's style in terms of playing and composition
i agree, just a different style, more compatable with Petrucci for the best part. I like Kevin other projects, so i find nothing wrong with the split of kevin and DT
There is a sadness in Kevin that connects with you on a very emotional level. His music provides a sonic resting place for your pain and thus provides relief. I speak from my own personal experience. It started with Wait For Sleep and especially Space Dye Vest. It has carried on brilliantly in Chroma Key.
Dream theater has reached its own fan base, its own cult following status (prog metal), so they ain´t gonna get get away from that if they want to be sure they get money from it
Kevin Moore´s too much open minded and innovative to be in dream theater
He takes a totally different direction with Chroma Key and his solo work. It isn't all about what he IS playing but the atmosphere he projects. If you take a listen to ghostbook you can get a better feel for what he is trying to accomplish. It is in a few respects very minimalistic and groundbreaking.
OSI is good, but Chroma Key is effing amazing. This music blows my mind, perfect rainy night driving music. I just wish he would put out another album.
I think Rudess is capable of replacing Moore on keyboard-playing, but Moore always was one of the best-rounded lyricists in Dream Theater. That's very tough to replace.
Portnoy is consistently above-average with lyrics, and Petrucci is hit or miss.
(Sadly, Myung is fantastic lyricist whom rarely gets to show his skills. He tends to write more in free verse, which the other DT guys hate trying to nail down to music.)
If only we could combine Rudess' technical skill, Moore's emotion, and Sherinians lightheartedness all into one. Wait, that might bring about an end to all conflicts in the universe though.
i truly love dream theater but honestly since kevin left 'dream' is missing.this man may not have jordan's or derek's skill but his musical genius is far beyond the others two.imo of course.
My thoughts exactly. Rudess' skill is ridiculous and I dare say surpassing of Moore. That said, I STILL prefer Moore. I can't explain it. Talent doesn't necessarily make you a "better" musician. As a keyboardist that writes mostly solo music, Moore will probably always be my number one influence.
Kevin Moore's also got the heart and soul in his music. Reaches out and touches you deeply, to me his music is for more than my ears, it's good for my soul as well.
Kevin moore assurement un musicien de grand talent qui donnait une ame à la musique de dream theater la preuve est faite que tout ne reside pas essentiellement dans la technique mais dans l'équilibre entre technique et GENIE de composition
I've just discovered Chroma Key and kevin Moore has become on of my favorite artists with Ulver and Gentle Giant. It seems to me that these bands are more interested into making really wonderfull art than making money or create the most complex or technical music. (sorry my english could be better)
Dream Theate madde a huge mistake when they let him go.
Bot Have you Heard about O.S.I. Office of Strategic influence? and I mean the band not the US Goverment Agency. Mike Portnoy, Petrucci, and Kevin, together. A real new KM feeling with the DT sound. Not the Images and Words, that I adore so much, but great!
@elxtranjero I absolutely love Scenes From A Memory, and there is some good material on Six Degrees. It just doesn't sound like what Kevin would have wanted to do. Their sound changed too much and it's a good thing they parted ways when they did. Chroma Key might take DT fans some getting used to initially, but if they hang in there and end up "getting it", it's well worth it.
@cvg1099 Considering Space-Dye Vest is one of my favorite DT songs it didn't take me any time to get used to Chrona Key, I loved it the first listen. But I understand what you mean. :)
@dio52 I wonder how DT's sound would be totally different today if Kevin stayed with them... While I like Jordan Rudess very much (Metropolis pt.2 is amazing), Kevin put something incredible in their songs. And Space-Dye Vest and the story behind it is just amazing.
Kevin could care less about being famous or being in a well known band. He is not a conventional musician by any stretch of the imagination. That's also why he's lived in such different places as New Mexico, California, Canada, Costa Rica and Turkey since leaving DT.
KM songwriting always makes u close your eyes and just let yourself fly or something with what you're hearing. Doesn't matter if it was with DT like 15 years ago or with CK. Truly one of my fav musicians around
Awesome song from one of the best musicians and composers around.
Re: its subject - to me it's about regret.
Colorblind = unable to see the 'color' {good} in the present situation:
'Pantone Memory' - Pantone is a color system used in printing, comprising 000s of colors.
So pantone memory = looking back on the past as if it were multi-hued and wonderful, whereas 'greyscale eyes' = what you see in the present moment is just shades of grey.
Kevin Moore was the core of theatres atmosphere. he painted his artistic masterpieces on the canvas of music and allowed us a sample of todays most modern genius. god bless.
Kevin Moore is an oustanding musician, just seems we dont get enough from him, only tasters! He strikes me as a person I'd truly like to sit down with, have a beer and just chat.

Who cares? Just enjoy the music.

All the "Dream" is gone from their music. Now all they have are the "Theatrics".
At least we have Chroma Key and our late 80's, 90's and early 00's DT albums. :)

"but things are getting clearer" more facts are revealed.
"i can almost read the writing in the mirror" i can almost see what "i" did.
