"Ohhhhh a fellowship huh??? A fellowwww shippp!! Well I think I know what I better do! I better go out to Long Island and get myself a FELLOWSHIP in a funny farm!!"
Wait a minute - was there a bad edit in this scene? Where did Archie come from? He just appears out of nowhere.
When they are waiting for the mail and Irene comes over Mike tells her Archie isn't home - then the Stivics leave after the professor calls - then Irene leaves - then Edith gets the wrong number phone call - then Irene comes right back with the envelope. Then all of a sudden Irene disappears and Archie is there as if he were there the whole time. Bizarre!!!
Man these people are such brilliant actors, they really make you think the characters are real people! Everything is just grade A! Such a testament to the lousy acting and even worse sitcoms around today, All In the Family is a true classic!
@FightingForFreedom23 Absolutely spot on. Many people might not agree with this, but even the so called "great" sitcoms that came after this couldn't hold a candle to it. I never understood Friends (a bunch of idiots who need to get a life) and Seinfeld (just negative New York Jewish stereotypes). Nowhere near as intelligent, funny, or well-acted.
I'm sure many of the kids of the 50s/60s had parents like them. A racist WW2 vet father and a crazy homemaker mother was the norm for that age group in the 70s.
Let's see. If Poland was never invaded by Germany, the US vets would say any other country we helped save in WW2 were dumb. That is probably why France & England had some stereotypes as well the Ruskies.
I would never let a bum live under my home and me take care of him like Archie did with mike.

Interesting that they said that a Bachelor's isn't 'enough' anymore.
Now, people say the exact same thing- except that they add on that a Bachelor's was important in the 1970s.

I think that's what they call a jump-cut. It's meant to show that time has passed. Irene left and Archie came home.

I agree with you. It amazes me that Mr. O'Connor was the exact opposite of Archie, yet played Archie so convincingly!
