Wow!!! What an immeasurable talent My Beautiful Black Sisters have been blessed with...What truly & fascinatingly astonishing gifts the two Radiant Ebony Sisters have been abundantly blessed with...!!! I too am in total awe, as well as, equally proud of both of their timeless & immeasurable talents, & their commendable triumph over obstacles. May they forever reign as "Divas of Soul", along with Patti, Aretha, Gladys and Dionne..
@TheSmithDorian Absolutely — there was a time when it took real and new talent to make something happen. What people forget is that this was all untrodden ground at the time (I've just watched Dionne W. from 1967). Ithink that 90%of what we hear (good and bad) is a rehash of the rreal creation/evolution happening from… whenever until the mid 90s. Anyway, I love these voices and this energy. So much more… enticing… than Lady Gaga etc… (I guess this is sacrilege, huh?)
Not sacrilege - just telling it like it is. Before the 90's the music of each generation was measured against the ones before it. Then the style aspect of the music became more important than the music itself. With advances in recording technology you got a situation where artists that can't sing well or write or play music, can be hugely successful dancing to cover versions of 70's & 80's songs.
Lady Gaga is not as bad as that but musically she's a million miles behind these two.

Great version but for the record Natalie Cole is wrong the original version was recorded by their Aunt Dionne Warwick-written by Burt Bacharach--far better than Arethra Franklin's excellent version s version in my humble opinion
Natalie wasn't wrong. She didn't say that it was originally recorded by Aretha, only that it was an "old Aretha Franklin classic", which it is. They sing the song in the call and response format that Aretha recorded in 1968, heavy on guitar as opposed to Warwick's faster 1967 original heavy on piano. I love Dionne's version and have it on the LP "Windows of the World", but I wouldn't say it is "far better" than Aretha's version. They are different, but equally essential.
To the person before saying this is Dionne song....negative....there's a video of aretha Franklin singing this song back in the 60s...Dionne pretty just did a remix to it...just wanted point that out there :) :) :)
@musicallytalented92 This song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for DIONNE WARWICK in 1967. Aretha covered it in 1968...so YES this is A Dionne Warwick Original.... thank you
@javarus80 & i think it's awkward that they would say it that way bcuz whitney & dionne are cousins, so you'd think she would know where it comes from.
You can't help but admit though that Aretha made it sound a whole lot better. And the instrumentation helped as well. Plus I liked the note the song was in. In an F sharp key or however it's considered. You know what I mean, right?
I love Aretha. I was just giving props to the original artist that recorded it and in my opinion, my favorite.....and yes, I do know what you mean (F sharp key) I wasn't a music major like many of friends but I get what you're saying.
shame . she USED to be loved by everybody...jerk--americans are always supporting drug addicts, homosexuals, losers in general..her voice was absolutely beautiful and no i don't support her dumb ass. however I will reminisce about the good all days., nobody could hit those high notes like her.. and yes am mad at her, cause now i have to put up with Beypornce.

That's tha true Soul Voice, that only Black women have, christina, joss, and others, they try, but they will never ever have it, because that 's genes baby, gotta have that black blood running through your blood. Even in Africa, there are black singers that throw their gospel down like this, it's in the blood! This is the real Soul Voice, and it can never be taken, imitated, but that's it. Lol same with Rhythm in dance, copied but the rhythm is in our blood. Just keepin' it real!
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
Hey, I’m a young artist, and I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my original compositions “My Bluest Sky” and “Será.” “My Bluest Sky” sounds a bit like a cross between “Irreplaceable” by Beyoncé, “Water Runs Dry” by Boyz II Men, and “Tell Him” by Lauryn Hill. And “Será” is, of course, a Latin number that is very high energy, hot-blooded, and extremely unforgettable. Thanks!
@lemons822:29 Lord Whitney did Karen Clark Sheard and Twinkie growl like nothing, she took that too pentacoastal church, this woman can SANG just SANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow I really forgot the crazy things that Whitney used to do with her voice at her peak . Her voice was ridiculous, she was an outstanding soprano. That's why she's called the voice. Natali Cole voice so soothing and effortless. Great combo here
everybody's talking about whitney's 2011 pre-grammy perform of this same song and saying how she can't sing and shouldn't cover aretha songs if she isn't going to do them justice. BITCH PLEASE! If people would just cast their eyes back to this performance, they see how she does this song more than justice- she makes it her own! Whitney THE VOICE Houton, ladies and gentlemen.
Wow, I've never seen this. Two of the best (well, formally best) in the business. At least we have this video footage that will last forever. Holla Loo!
@MrBCJ01 Both versions are classic. Aretha and Dionne did a duet many years ago where they combined their individual styles of this song and made the rendition work. But its true to say that this song was written specifically for Dionne, according to the composer, Burt Bacharach.
@emmettk Dionne is Whitney's first cousin, not her aunt. Many people get that fact mixed up, even journalists who should know better and do their research.
I'm sorry everybody, but I just have to say that Natalie definitely made a mistake. She should have said "an old Dionne Warwick classic". But, like somebody else stated earlier on, they all own this song in their respective ways. Damn, how Whitney could belt out a tune back then. What a waste of the greatest talent ever to be made by God. Whitney, I praise to you! You are still amazing and I believe that you will recover and grace us once again with your amazing vocals!
@SilverShadowMusic I think Natalie was refering to Aretha's version, which is also considered a classic. This is the Aretha Franklin arrangement. But it true, the song was written specifically for Dionne Warwick's voice, according to Burt Bacharach. Its testament to Aretha's talent that she can take a classic song and remake into something just as wonderful.
Oh, yes. I completely agree with you. The thing is, I think that Aretha's version is a little better that Dionne's. After stating this, I know and agree with you at 100%. But, she did make a mistake, but nothing to get all crazy after. They're both awesome and powerful, and that's how they will stat, how they will remain. Pure soul, and African American vocals!
Whitney is sooo amazing. It is a sin that she has messed up her voice with cigarettes and drugs. It should actually be illegal for someone with her talent to be able to buy cigarettes. The same thing happened to Eddie Kendrick's voice. It's so sad.
@SteadiStick Amen her voice was so perfection but the cigarettes and drugs alter it for the worst. She can still sing but compared to this it just so sad how she didn't care enough about her gift to take of it.
Wasn't that a Dionne Warwick song first and then Aretha a year later? I love all Natalie and Whitney as well as Dionne and Aretha. All incomporable in their own ways. I would think Whitney would know it was Dionne's song first.
WOW! Amazing duet. I love how they made it there own, they didnt try to copy the original. I must say I am a Whitney fan, never listened much to Natalie, but I appreciate her being a part of the duet and voice and music as well. <3
@artnikolapesic What a stupid thing to say and how does it make things better that you are white? So if I'm black and say that white people are supreme, how does that sound to you? How about asians, south americans etc?
@TheOneZatoichi You forgot the mixes. I got south american and white. Don't force me to chose one or the other. Hey there's also dutch and indian somewhere under that. Pure Bloods are only in Klan descendants or very strict homebodies with no exposure.
Whitney ,eres enorme !! -Natalie , eres grande !! - Pero este tema nació para que lo pintara con su voz Aretha Franklin ....es así de simple, como una madre con su hijo ... no hay nada que lo remplace a uno del otro - Pd : son tres GRANDES !!!
This is a true legend! A TRUE class act!

SilverShadowMusic 11 months ago 2
@SilverShadowMusic I think Natalie was refering to Aretha's version, which is also considered a classic. This is the Aretha Franklin arrangement. But it true, the song was written specifically for Dionne Warwick's voice, according to Burt Bacharach. Its testament to Aretha's talent that she can take a classic song and remake into something just as wonderful.

@bolder2009

Ladies you are the best,God bless you and your voice !!

Whitney is sooo amazing. It is a sin that she has messed up her voice with cigarettes and drugs. It should actually be illegal for someone with her talent to be able to buy cigarettes. The same thing happened to Eddie Kendrick's voice. It's so sad.
SteadiStick 11 months ago 2
@SteadiStick Amen her voice was so perfection but the cigarettes and drugs alter it for the worst. She can still sing but compared to this it just so sad how she didn't care enough about her gift to take of it.
lsaturn01 11 months ago
Wasn't that a Dionne Warwick song first and then Aretha a year later? I love all Natalie and Whitney as well as Dionne and Aretha. All incomporable in their own ways. I would think Whitney would know it was Dionne's song first.

@artnikolapesic What a stupid thing to say and how does it make things better that you are white? So if I'm black and say that white people are supreme, how does that sound to you? How about asians, south americans etc?
TheOneZatoichi 8 months ago
@TheOneZatoichi You forgot the mixes. I got south american and white. Don't force me to chose one or the other. Hey there's also dutch and indian somewhere under that. Pure Bloods are only in Klan descendants or very strict homebodies with no exposure.

Whitney ,eres enorme !! -Natalie , eres grande !! - Pero este tema nació para que lo pintara con su voz Aretha Franklin ....es así de simple, como una madre con su hijo ... no hay nada que lo remplace a uno del otro - Pd : son tres GRANDES !!!
