Indian Classical Music is divine! It has evolved over several centuries and Indians ought to be extremely proud of what they are offering to this world. We have 2 divine singers here: Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and Ustad Rashid Khan who are offering us this very divine Miyan ki Todi.
When I would listen to my father's collection of Rashid Khan's recordings, I thought to myself "Here is one chap who can take on Bhimsen Joshi, and carry on the tradition of Khayal!." His technique, control, and nada were impeccable - only Rajan and Sajan Mishra came close.
Later when I read that Bhimsen Joshi himself had praised Rashid Khan as a true successor, I felt vindicated in my thoughts.
I feel immensely pleased to hear the music of Pt.Bhimsen Joshi everyday! What a gifted musi cian HE is. Today I saw in the news item that HE is critically ill. I PREY T
O GOD for his speedy recovery, a true Indian with great contribution to the NATION.
This is the beauty of being steeped in culture and tradition. It enriches with a graceful attitude. This is why Guru-Shisya parampara is so important aspect of the training in classical style.
@ileeshmach I agree with u completely. But they (both Panditji and Ustaadji) are more exception than norm. There are many adepts who are also victims of their king size egos. In such a situation, these two maestros come across as a vivid example of how it should be, rather than how it actually is.
Around a year back , Pt Viswamohan Bhatt , during a performance , commented that some musicians have been trying for quite some time to launch a 24 hour Indian Classical Music channel . But advt money is not guaranteed... so.....
A new TV channel dedicated to Indian Classical Music will be a very nice idea to revive it and to generate interest of the youth in it. One who will hear classical music for once , will definitely forget the new-age 'Uchal-Kood-junglee' music.
Door Darshan is the only channel in India right now who keep aliving Indian Classical Music...it's very important in now day when so many other music trends coming in India so Indian peoples going away from Indian Classical Music & from Indian Culture as well... :-(
Thaks also to Door Darshan! They should sell all these interviews and performances as DVDs! It is a brilliant way to generate revenue! PTV are you listening? and pakistan radio and AIR Please come out of your shells!
Utmost divine. See the respect to each other and the passion to sing, Rashid Khan never tried to overshadow Panditaji, shows respect to the Legend besides him. This is India
@VVKY10 absolutely!Listen carefully and you will know the difference in the texture, grains of the voices..one is that of a Maestro and the other ..not to belittle him but Rashid Khan seems ordinary,in comparison.
@bitan86 It's not just voice quality and voice control. Bhimsen is streets ahead in conceiving and linking phrases. In a totally different league from Rashid. Sadly, due to obvious reasons, Rashid gets hyped up.
@VVKY10 totally agree!Your comment reminds me of a something.I don't know if you would agree to this but the same is the case with Amjad Ali Khan and his sons..he stands no where near to the GOD! Ustd Ali Akbar Khan!! But he gets hyped!:)
no doubt that it is an awesome piece of art but i couldnt make out the lyrics. (that itself is the beauty of the song.....) but still could anybody please post the lyrics of this bandish...........
selfrealization staged decades ago. He is not singing for recognition. In less than one minute, he (Bhimsen Joshi) finds himself one with God. Abh hum ishe kia 'subdue' karenge?
Ustad Rashid Khan is right there, you should read Pt Bhimsen Joshi's appraisal of Ustad Rashid Khan. Listen to his solo performances, then decide what an excellent singer he is.
its a perfect combinationace of technical finesse(panditji) and casual grace(ustadji). also it is very heartening to note the humility of ustadji acknowledging the senior age of panditji, and the humility of panditji to acknowleddge the art of ustadji not paying any attention to his age. this is true culture of the subcontinent: afghanistan, bangladesh, hindustan and pakistan. wah !!!!!
The credit for arranging this goes to the Late ustad Vilayat Khan Sahib, Whom I consider a real giant among the musicians and a saint. He was breathing his oxygen simply by playing the Sitar and teaching, without any concern for name and fame.
A PERSON LIKE BHIMSEN JI HAS NO "SUN SET"....watch the way HE is singing....so relaxed...as if HE is enjoying reading a newspaper & singing..LONG LIVE PANDIT ji....
Ustad Rashid Khan should've been sitting on the floor, not at the same level on the seat next to Panditji.
