  • Fuck this is just devastatingly good. We need more bands like this!

  • Looks to me like the gig at University of London Student Union around 85, just went and looked at some recent photos of The Slits gig there just to make sure my memory isn't failing and it still looks the same. Remember On-U doing several gigs there, there was a Tackhead one too with the Sound System supporting, Mark Stewart toasted on the mike up on the balcony next to the mixing desk.

  • Thanks for posting. Saw MS and Tackhead a few times around this time. Bloody brilliant live!

  • Thanx for uploading! One of my best concerts in my life: Mark Stewart & Maffia in Hamburg! Amazing and psycho!

  • great stuff great live soundman

  • @mediattackrecords

dont get why people are so scared about this music its just music

  • @mediattackrecords its dumb that people think musicians have some kind of secret GOVT power to change things its a huge republican practical joke that used to work to get fans now its just being TAKEN TOO SERIOUSLY

  • Tackhead/Maffia played a 2 night residency at Calton Studios in 89. 1990 was at Coasters up Tollcross. The Venue, from what I recall from those very heady days had Tackhead late? 87 Tackhead Sound System twice in 88 and between then and the early ninties a couple of shows by DJ Spike aka Keith Le Blanc.

  • this is how to funk. mark stewart and the pop group we love you!

  • Remember seeing these and Tackhead (same band I know !) in the 80's. What a glorious racket !!!

  • Mate, it was a friend of mine who recorded this video, and I DJ'd at the aftershow. If you check out the video for 'dangerous sex' you'll see it features other footage he filmed at the same show. In fact, have just checked and the first time Tackhead/Mark Stewart played Edinburgh was 1988. But fact is, '87.88 or 1990 it was a brilliant gig and it's great this footage of it is up here for all to see :-)

  • there was also footage from this show (and their Town & Country Club gig on same tour) in the 1990 Snub TV feature on Tackhead which may be up to watch here or elsewhere on t'net. Great Stuff.

PS, NadeemF, if you have a copy of this full gig please PM me as i'd love to see it again.

  • yes, this was from Calton Studios, Edinburgh, but in 1990 NOT 1985. The first time tackhead/maffia ever played Edinburgh was in '88 or 89 at The Venue.

  • wanker

  • your point, caller?

  • I think I got this video in 1987 and am absolutely sure it wasn't 1990 or later

  • What a fantastic racket!

  • mark stewart is CLARO INTELECTO NOW? thanks

  • this video has such atmostphre its almost like its from a grimey underground club in the future like somthing from blade runnner

  • EXACTLY! Look for Mark's "EDIT" ... his first record in nearly a decade. Same band: Doug Wimbish (bass), Skip "Little Axe" McDonald (guitar), Keith Leblanc (drums). DOUG WIMBISH "CINEMASONICS" too. The future is now ... find it. — dave.

  • Hi,

Just heard today that Mark and the whole bunch will be playing in my home town (Den Haag, Netherlands) on april 12th 2008..... Just can't wait.......Sure he well be playing this classic one, outragous..

  • Thanks for the tip !!!

  • Great to find this here !!

You Tube matters, more and more my tube.

  • THANK YOU!

  • Was this filmed at the Calton Studios in Edinburgh? Looks like it. Lovely stuff. Such a tragedy when they got that Fowler turkey aboard and turned shite.

  • I agree on that fowler thing....

  • Totally! What the fnck happened to these guys...? One minute they were on the point of changing the world with Clail on tow etc. and the next minute they woosed out with a clean cut image, lead singer and polished sound. Broken by the system, as per usual. One of the greatest disapointments, ever.

  • You couldn't be more wrong ... fact is that the band (who nobody here mentions) still play with both Mark and Bernard. Both are great ... Music isn't a competition ... More is better. By the way, the players' names are DOUG WIMBISH, bass; SKIP McDONALD, guitar; KEITH LEBLANC, drums ... and NOTHING they play is "SHIT" , no matter WHO is singing.

  • Whoa! Don't go putting words in my mouth.I followed this band since Fats Comet. Just wanted to say that, whilst they are still better than anything else these days, we were robbed of the full potential when they signed to SBK and ditched Clail (who went on to have good commercial success)in favour of Fowler. He's fine, but they should have recorded under the name 'Bernard Fowler' rather than fuck off loads of the people who loved their records circa 1985-88

  • Clail? Fowler? ... This is Stewart ... what remains consistent is the band. "Rather than 'fuck off' loads of the people who loved their records circa 1985-88." The BAND's name is TACKHEAD ... no matter who's singing.

  • Fair comment and I am hugely glad they are still playing together and occasionaly touring. However, when you see a clip as powerful as this it takes your breath away. This is a particularly good clip as the sound quility is great. I love these guys but the stuff they did in the mid to late 80's was ridiculously good and so under rated. This clip is testement to that. LeBlanc's sampled drum sounds from this era still blow me away. Shame he rarely uses them these days.

  • Understood. Search for "In the Area," a clip of Doug, Skip, and Keith just two months ago at Doug's "Wimbash" in Hartford. No vocals, but I think you'll appreciate the band's intensity.

    Always Be Well. —dave.

  • Saw mark and the maffia in 91 i think.Off my face nearly took a whitey, didn't though.Absolutely amazing. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Astounding-As The Veneer Of Democracy is one of the best albums of the eighties-a great meeting of minds..

  • that's what she said last night ....

  • Religion Is Fear

  • Yes, he is a legend...

  • Does anyone know who the musicians are? Great band, I never new...

  • Keith LeBlanc on drums, Skip MacDonald on guitar and Doug Wimbish on bass - see Tackhead, Little Axe, and solo projects by Keith and Doug.

  • And not to forget Adrian Sherwood at the control;-)

  • Mark Stewart is a legend

  • and I used to think he couldn't sing! But saw em live and my resistance evaporated. Knockout!

  • Best live band of the 80s! Where's the DVD?

  • I would pay for that show :)

  • saw this line-up @ foufounes eletriques in montreal back in the day. unbelievable show.

  • Fantastic! Where is this recording from? I really would like to see more tracks from this show. A great live version of a great track. Yiaa!
