Amaterasu Omikami is a GIRL! Wakka constantly refers to Ammako as a ma cherié which is a FEMININE noun in French and the brush gods and some other characters refer to her as MOTHER to us all instead of just origin of us all and Issun clearly calls Ammako a GIRL! how hard is that to understand? just quite calling Ammy genderless because all the other brush gods have genders! (u can tell from their voices) and the Japanese and European versions r just the same game in different languages!

Well, "okami" means "wolf" or "great god" in Japanese, but Amaterasu is deliberately written to be genderless in this game, but is based on the sun god Amaterasu, who is supposedly female.

No, Amaterasu is constantly introduced as a female throughout the game, being referred to as "mother Amaterasu". So Amaterasu in the this game IS a female, not genderless. She is the Sun Goddess which is affirmed not too long after this part of the game.

Yes, in the American version. But the Japanese and European version say female. The reason why the American version makes Amaterasu genderless was because of the differences as far as the actual legend of the sun goddess and the game's Amaterasu... but the game calls "it" (as they say) a sun goddess anyway? o_O But the first releases refer to Amaterasu as female, while the English version turned Amaterasu into an "it."

I think the English version just made it more confusing. Why refer to the character as a female throughout the entire game when you want to reassure the player at the same time that Amatersau ISN'T female, nor male? Doesn't make sense to me. The Japanese first release call Ammako (Issun's nickname for Amatersau) female, as do the European stay true to that as well. But onward. xD I love this game, too. I own the PS2 version and it's great.
