I was mainly meaning the combined power of three of them with their flying mounts. And also just meant that multiple characters from the books THOUGHT they would be too much for gandalf. Those three alone knew his power, thats why they left.
If memory serves- i thought gandalf and the witch king were close to same amount of power: i know gandalf was stronger after his ascension to 'white' status, but in the movie my best defense for gandalf would be that the witch king came out
Even Gandalf the Grey should've been able to defeat the Witch King without much trouble. The books had Gandalf the Grey defeating 5+ Nazgul on Weathertop. Gandalf the Grey also slew a Balrog, which is a demi-god. The Witch King is just a human given special powers by the demi-god Sauron.
The only thing going for the Witch King was an elven hero predicting that he would not be defeated by a man (and that wasn't even a prophecy).
One of the greatest moments in filming history! It waa said that the nazgul would be the death of Gandalf- yet he rides to confront THREE of them. I dont believe it was the light that stopped them, but they knew at that moment who was behind that power! AWESOME
Actually, according to the books, Gandalf is far stronger than the Nazgul. iirc, he defeats 5+ of them at Weathertop (not Aragon as in the movies). When he comes back as Gandalf the White, he should've easily curb stomped the Witch King...but for some reason PJackson decided to do the complete opposite.
Of no where, and surprised gandalf. Plus gandalf had been fighting all night, he was tired by that point.
