  • Hugh Laurie certainly isn't saying "This is not America" anymore. Traitor!

  • i do it the second way but they will never get out of the celler

  • I envy that kid in the tan jacket at the end O.o Stephen = hothothothothothothot

  • i guess u have to really be british to notice that they're making fun of americanism. didn't notice that that was what it was supposed to be about till they did it "the right way"^^

  • @sn3192 or just *non-american, i guess :P

  • @SinisterGrapefruit

    lol, i'm actually continental european^^

  • They took them, and threw them on the ground.

  • And then they threw them out a window.

  • THIS. IS NOT.. AMERICAAAA

    :D :D :D :D :D

  • brought to you by tideymans carpets

  • What? What did you say?!

  • "If you'll pardon the pun"

    DAVID WALLIAMS STEALS HIS JOKES.

  • @PollyBreedDumb They weren't the first ones to make the joke.

  • They're right of course, this is not America!

  • Love Stephen's first 'what?' and his little chuckle- 'ha ha ha ha HAA ha ha'.

Sweet mother of Mary, Hugh is a wonderful actor. Rather attractive, too..

Although the same could be said of dear Mr

    Fry.

  • This is England-not America-what are you talking about?

  • As an American, I find this sketch very funny :D

  • Oh good god we LOVE to spoil people's fun.

  • I love it when Hugh says "Catch you guys later". He just sounds so wonderfully middle class.

  • 1:31 that boy nearly got kicked in the head.

  • Can't go to a BBC video without constant bitch fights between Americans and the British. It's funny, just enjoy it.

  • stephen fry's tweet sent me here :D

  • I hate trick or treaters. All they are now are greedy teenagers who fork out a couple of quid for a crappy mask as an excuse to get free shit from people who don't know better.

  • Amazing.

  • Loved it. Brilliant how they can throw an incest joke in the middle of it all lol

  • These two honestly are my two favourite people on the face of the earth.

  • @shadeweave2 they are my idols

  • Lol! Great! I will be showing my mum this now. I did ask her if we could put ice cream in a bowl cover it up and ask them to put their hand in thinking it was a lucky dip and just get sticky hands but she disagreed

  • thumbs up if you came here because of Stephen Fry's tweet!!! :) (had to do it the devils made me lmao!)

  • I really wish they succeeded. It has now spread throughout scandinavia, in a massive way.

  • I just did this, i'm typing from a jail cell.

  • Delightful sketch! Love those two!

BTW, it's not American culture, it's kid culture. Lighten up, folks: enjoy the ickle "shaversnappers" and toss em a treat! Keep the fun in kiddie life!

  • Love how they just threw in an incest joke in the middle

  • i didn't understand half of the things they were saying because of their accents

  • Superb mocking of the way English is ruined in the USA.

"Did we prepare a bag of 'jelly beans' 'out back'?"

    "I'll 'go fetch' them."

    " 'Catch you guys' later."

I'm surprised the audience didn't laugh more at these snippets.

  • @OntologicalQuandry As opposed to how it is "ruined" in England? Language is fluid and changes ceaselessly, regardless of geographical location. There are nearly as many variations in the usage of the English language in the UK as there are in the US.

  • @miwright21 I agree. In some ways American English is closer today to what British language was at the time of the American Revolution!

  • @OntologicalQuandry At least we pronounce our R's at the end of words.

  • @TallBoyBlue1 I must apologize as a resident of Massachusetts for my people failing in that practice.

  • Comment removed

  • @OntologicalQuandry Slang in language is not bad--in fact, there is no dialect of any language that is bad, as the purpose of language is to express or communicate. Just because one language is older than the other does not mean that it is somehow inherently superior in value. Thus, I don't think the British language has been 'ruined' in the USA, nor do I think American English is better than British English. Both are valid forms of language.

Anyway, sorry for that long rant.

  • @OntologicalQuandry I don't get it?

  • @OntologicalQuandry We didn't ruin anything. We've changed it. We've helped the language evolve in different ways than it has in England. That's what languages do. They change. Would you say Modern English as it's spoken in England is a fine example of how English has been "ruined" by Middle French?

  • [entire script of sketch written out for hilarity value, thereby rendering it unnecessary for anyone to quote random lines in the comments for the mad LOLs]

  • @demonliberal [pointless complain about people who quote everything, insult]

  • ''doorbell'' trick or treat ?

    i shout fuck !!! off !!

  • "I quite fancy me sister though"

    ...rofl.

  • After I've watched 10 A bit of fry and Laurie video, i have to say..They are the Best!!! but i knew this before it too

  • "I quite fancy me sister" LOL XD

  • This is madness. This is Spartaaaaaaa! :D

  • this happens in australia as well!! they r idoits!!!

  • @EmKate23 the ppl trick or treating r idoits. Not stephen and hugh...

  • @ 1:29 the kid on the left almost gets kick in the head! hilarious.

  • I envy thise two kids

  • The people saying about the costumes- its a scene, not an actual trick or treat...

  • As an American, I can't help but notice that those kids didn't put much effort into their costumes.

  • @suspiciouscrouton I was thinking the same thing. Guess they don't go around for treats there.

  • Wow, no sparta jokes after the "this is not America!" line, good to see that the fans of this show are a bit better than the rest of the internet.

  • Sadly this won't work in Amerika.

  • Thank god

  • THIS IS NOT AMERICAAAAAA~!

  • Wait wtf, where they going to rape the kids?

  • @redman8903 Obviously not, so why don't you just go back to raping the English language?

  • When Fry hands over the jelly beans he ought to have just said 'enjoy' rather than 'enjoy those'. That one winds me up.

  • @ursie1986 I'm glad something gets you out a bed in the morning. lol

  • what's that hugh? not a fan of american customs... well best stay away the-oh too late...

  • No..... THIS IS SPARTA!

  • I get the joke and it is funny but I would like to point out that the Trick or Treating portion in its current form started in Ireland.

  • @Blasted2Oblivion Still, its not England.

  • @Blasted2Oblivion

Irrelevant. "Trick or treating" was popularized by Americans. Unfortunately it's now seeped into our (UK) culture. Every year it gets worse. Nowadays, come October, enter any shop and you'll see: striped tights; flimsy witch's hats; stupid pumpkins; inedible chocolate ghosts on sticks, and miscellaneous, poorly-made, overpriced... tat, always made out of purple, black and orange plastic.

    It must stop.

  • @MechoMadness LOL Its the same here in the US. In my opinion however there are two redeeming factors that make it all acceptable. There is always at least on channel with a marathon of good horror films and on November 1st there are several tons of dirt cheap Halloween candy in every store you go to.(I like the Halloween candy.)

  • @MechoMadness

the way u describe it, it sound wonderfully British :D

  • @MechoMadness Understand consumerism vs invading culture. Huge difference. Why do you think it's adopted?

  • Brilliant ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh back then trick or treat was just an american thing but unfortunately fry n laurie could not stop its army like arival into british culture, now haloween has become another little day to fill the pockets of the serpents.

  • That's it, I am moving to England!

  • am from Uruguay, and the corporations are traing to make Halloween here too! and its very pathetic.. in 20 years we will be playing Baseball.....

  • @vitakinesis ROFL!

  • this is England not America!

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

  • "This is England, not America"

    Followed by "BBC Worldwide"

  • Omg, get lost stupid KIA, GTFO!

  • After watching this, I immediately tried to stand up, fell on the floor, tried again, fell down, crawled a little way then collapsed on the ground in a hysteria fit for about 10 minutes. Then I watched it again.

  • @stupididiotization well they have to make shit bbc comedy for someone. enjoy next weeks My Family whilst I find some real comedy lol

  • @tehf00n Ha cha cha, you're hilarious. And because you obviously have less intelligence than a dog, I'm going to point out the fact that I meant this in the most sarcastic and condescending way.

  • @ailrox nope. dont get it. must be that MyFamily humour again. might go pick some peanuts out of my poo

  • @mango5564 yes we do.

  • American. Loved it.

  • The 'if you pardon the pun' bit is now used by David Walliams playing one of his characters in Come Fly With Me. Beg, borrow and steal and you'll be a success in comedy.

  • ...do they not do trick or treating in britain?

  • @mango5564

yes, but it's still recognized as being a tacky imitation of america

  • @IRealBored ....I think the point is any excuse for FREE CANDY. Tact being much lower on the list. :)

  • @Lamashtar whole heartedly agreed

  • @mango5564 It's been growing over the years but it used to be unheard of...

  • Wow, that's quite strange after just watching House

  • I love this sketch because I really hate that trick-or-treating has caught on in this country.

  • Funny... these guys mention America in almost every skit.

  • "This is not Ameri-CAH!" XD

  • Still relevant today.

  • 1:33 = Falcon Kick!

  • Is the taller kid Syed Masood from Eastenders??

  • i might actually do that this year.... i live in america

  • BAHAHAHA!! I'm American and I love this!!!..."This is England not America!!!" :)

...I love watching a Bit of Fry and Laurie

Especially the classic Fry and Laurie- "Pardon the pun.. What pun?..Wasn't there one?!?..Sorry!" :D

  • my mum never let me go trick or treating because she says is it an American hype :(

  • @123at123world my dad was the same, he said it was begging. :(

  • America never makes fun of England like this... We just make fun of Canadians...

  • @bl4ze20uNcEs. That must be a challenge... a) there's nothing to really make fun of b) you don't know anything aboot us.

  • @IanEColeman yea canada ftw... where all the (((foreigners))) go after they realize america is only for business not for living...

  • I'm an American, but after watching this I too have the urge to scream "THIS IS ENGLAND NOT AMERICA!!!"

  • @joshaf26 hahah in a british accent of course! XD

  • preeeettty sure the holiday is as old as catholicism..

  • @KairuHakubi Older actually.

  • we're not even two centuries

    old

and we're looking back at the tea party

    as saviors'

    they should be called

    the flea party

  • Hahaha, that was great! and so true. it's kind of annoying when people in europe (i'm from the continent) do these crazy american things that are just so nonsensical. I mean, we have enough of our own culture and tradition and history to begin adopting the dumb rituals of a 2-century old toddler country. England ruules!!

  • Thats kind of insulting...BUT I LOVE IT XD

  • i loved it when stephen fry just screamed this is not america and the end

    tickles me every time

  • So envious of those kids right now... ^_^

  • @ChloeBadoe You're a nice guy. I can tell because of the huge generalizations you're making about every person in England, and how you probably heard from some party or another that everyone sucks, and you're so caught up in those tremendous generalizations to notice that THIS IS ENGLAND NOT AMERICA!

But aside from that, yeah. You can't take a joke like this.

  • @HappyGuyxlii you're right, someone hacked my account and wrote that comment. it's good that you got angry at me or I wouldn't have realized!

  • @ChloeBadoe God Damn I'm sick and tired of people talking about British teeth if anyone were to actually do any research they would find that Britain has the best oral hygene in the World

  • @mondaymonkey Thanks for replying; someone hacked my account and I wouldn't have realized if you hadn't responded to the hacked comment.

  • @DoctorBoobyFondler

    What Culture? XD

America has no culture, Halloween didnt come from the US

  • How sad I watch this too late, this year on halloween, I simply looked out of the window, waved at the children and ignored their trick or treat :D

  • omg xDD This is England not America!!

  • 1:32 - The boy that Hugh picks up kicks the mask off the boy Stephen picks up.

  • Haha, so true. I'm from Australia, and when people talk about going out for Hallowe'en, I wonder why they would bother. How many people in Oz would have "a bag of jelly beans" ready for trick or treaters anyway? ^^

  • i like the face hugh makes when he says "jelly beans"

  • thank you Mother Creator

  • Well done to the BBC for spellin Hallowe'en correctly. And we've always celebrated it in Scotland ;)

  • Canadians don't answer the door, so kids just freeze to death. Much simpler that way. Just saying.

  • @1994Topgear I like your style

  • TRICK OR TREAT?! i did the same exact thing to 2 kids...police in America SUCK!

  • Why is the bbc accepting adverts all of a sudden?

  • @jenko4292 That's just google trying to generate ad money off youtube.

  • @jenko4292

It is BBC worldwide, not the plain BBC.

People worldwide don't pay the TV licsense, so everyone abroad has to endure adverts. (E.g: On BBC America etc...)

  • Halloween is pagan Celtic America did what it does best, commercialize and capitalize money money money

  • This reminds me of Drop Dead Fred :)

AND this is hilarious. And I'm American. And I love Fry & Laurie. And Britain.

  • I think ET is the reason trick or treating came to the UK.

  • Halowe'en was originally Celtic!

  • I saw Hugh Laurie for the 1st time in "Peter's Friends" (1992) at the movies, then in "Sense and Sensibility" (1995-1996). Great guy !

(I'm reading his book "The Gun Seller" - Quite fine !)

  • C'mon, what about other people? who's side are you on? is it ok that i said "house" because i saw thats the actor of gregory house from the series "house",

Or is it completely horrible that i made a little note about it, and that i should fuck off? huh? is it really that bad?

  • *Raises Arms* "X-Factor!"

That video- hilarious! So true to.

  • HAH

  • Laxative chocolates. Just saying.

  • Hahaha at 1:32 the kid almost gets kicked in the face. Would have made for a very different ending.

  • Stephen's laugh at 1:07 is priceless

  • Comment removed

  • House! :)

  • @Tossavainen1 seriously, fuck off.

  • @uniden999 What? isn't that hugh laurie? at least it looks like him! whats your problem...?

  • @Tossavainen1 it is hugh laurie, not house, his name is not house.

  • @uniden999 hugh laurie, was in house, his name in house was dr. gregory house..

and i just said "house" because i noticed he's the guy (hugh laurie..) from house.. and in house his name is dr. gregory house... im repeating stuff because you don't seem to understand.. again; what's your problem..?

  • @Tossavainen1 my problem is people like you who feel they have a duty to tell everyone that they've just seen Dr House (OMG) when almost everyone else looking at this video knows who hugh laurie is.

  • @uniden999 It's not Dr house (OMG) it's hugh laurie, fuck off. And i didn't see any comments about that it was hugh laurie, i was wondering why no1 had mentioned it. maybe someone had but i didn't have the time to look through all the comments. besides i live in finland, so i really haven't seen him in any other place than the series "house".. so when i saw him here i was surprised and just wanted to show it. And SERIOUSLY DUDE can't you be even a little open minded, it was just on small comment

  • I wonder if the Americans know that this guy is house.

  • @PINGASFIST of course we do!

  • Comment removed

  • So, what DO the British do on Oct 31?! That was pretty funny, though!

  • @missbeatrix1

trick or treat pretty much. just usually less effort put into it

  • @missbeatrix1 the things they do on Oct 30 u moron!

  • @bhaskre

Now that's not very nice calling me a moron. It was just a realization that some areas may not celebrate Halloween as we Americans do. But other than the NAME CALLING (which is VERY RUDE) thank you for informing me.
