It should be spelled COLONIALISM. It has nothing to do with imperialism. Let me try here. The 1880 Milan Resolution that banned the use of sign language in schools launched language belittlement and bigotry. For many years, deaf people were willing to comply with policies and regulations generated by the 1880 Milan Resolution and to celebrate those who could talk. Even today many deaf children thought they will become hearing after graduation. That's how colonialism works. An erratic mindset.
