THis WAS adapted from that May 25, 1951 "NIGHT BEAT" radio episode, as Larry Marcus wrote both scripts. It wasn't uncommon for radio scripts to be adapted into TV episodes [look at how many Jack Webb did on both radio and TV versions of "DRAGNET" in the '50s]- a script written for Glenn Ford's "CHRISTOPHER LONDON" radio series in 1950 was slightly rewritten for Louis Hayward's syndicated TV show "THE LONE WOLF" in 1954.
There was a fire that the reporter, Randy Stone, wrote about and the panic people had - just like Fred Jordan. The proofreader had written"too bad the human race doesn't come up to your standards" on Randy's copy of the article and Randy called him up, only to discover that it was an old woman who had written it. She even makes a remark about spelling like a 2 year old and the whole i before e except for c. All this w/in the first 4.5 minutes.
Miss Lupino was every inch a pioneer, being a distaff director in a then-traditionally male-oriented industry.

Sounds like an episode of Night Beat called Fear.

This episode (which alternated with "SINGER FOUR STAR PLAYHOUSE", on behalf of the show's alternate sponsor) originally aired on April 8, 1954.
