This was done on purpose in the Georgia state championship game. The pitcher was upset over the calls and the team batting was up by a big margain. I believe his brother was the Shortstop and had been called out looking twice in the game. The pitcher had his college scholarship revoked after the game.

For example when a catcher calls for a curve he expects a lower velocity and an arc, but when he gets a straight fastball he isn't expecting it and can't adjust in time. We actually went over this scenario last night in an umpire's meeting. We were told that if you believe it is intentional (probably with help from the field umpire) you dump the catcher, the pitcher and the manager. The pitcher and catcher for obvious reasons and the manager because that call more than likely came from the dugout.
You can tell by the catcher's bad acting as the pitch arrives at home that this was intentional. But the pitcher is such a total loser that the ump didn't even miss a beat.

I can't tell if the pitcher and catcher BOTH collaborated on this, but the catcher clearly intended to allow the ball to hit the umpire, no doubt about it. The pitch was thrown too hard and too high for the catcher to pretend that he expected it to break downwards into the dirt. If he had truly mixed up his signals with the pitcher, he would have tried to reach up with his glove at the last second and snare the ball.

when will umpires and officials realize that when they stop squeezing players and blowing calls that this kind of thing won't happen. I have umped for baseball and reffed in soccer and called the games with no ego in mind and never had a problem. I would like to see more professionals do this kind of thing, it would tell officials to call the games fair

Do you even watch baseball? This happens a lot. For example when a catcher calls for a curve he expects a lower velocity and an arc, but when he gets a straight fastball he isn't expecting it and can't adjust in time. If you were ever a catcher you would know that but you don't have that experience. Also if he did it on purpose then why did the pitcher wince when it hit the ump? If they meant to do it both the catcher and pitcher would know about it.

actually that was a pretty bad attempt at a block. HIs glove was the last thing down, which is the opposite of what you want to do cuz what if the ball doesn't bounce like you think it will and goes between your legs, then you look f***ing retarted. plus he shouldn't have gone down immediatly in the first place. he needs to be able to anticipate the pitch better and not jumps to blocking too early, otherwise this exact occurence will happen.

We actually went over this scenario last night in an umpire's meeting. We were told that if you believe it is intentional (probably with help from the field umpire) you dump the catcher, the pitcher and the manager. The pitcher and catcher for obvious reasons and the manager because that call more than likely came from the dugout.

I can't tell if the pitcher and catcher BOTH collaborated on this, but the catcher clearly intended to allow the ball to hit the umpire, no doubt about it. The pitch was thrown too hard and too high for the catcher to pretend that he expected it to break downwards into the dirt. If he had truly mixed up his signals with the pitcher, he would have tried to reach up with his glove at the last second and snare the ball.
