You Newfies did the rest of us PROUD!!! I know my city landed a few planes that day, but we didn't have the big runway to land huge aircraft! I only hope our city could come close to your hospitality!
@VintageTelevision863 I beg to differ. All of the Newfoundlanders I know want people to pronounce it so that it rhymes with understand. The word "found" isn't said only in songs where someone needs a rhyme! LOL! It sounds like
@smackbunny Then that's one thing you have to learn about us newfoundlanders, yes we love our home and will take in the stranded people, hell we'll even buy you a beer! But we won't do that, Lol alot of people on this earth don't even know that little rock is a province. Alot of people mocks us because of our way of speech, tourist have actually come to newfoundland expecting the old early 1900's villages and fishing towns. They were surprised... =]

Newfoundland used to be a separte Dominion under the British Empire, equal to Canada or Australia, but was bankrupted in the great Depression, eventually voting to give up independence and join canada in 1949.
I'm glad to see people watch this and can finally relize how good us Newfoundlanders can be. Gander is an amazing place, I live in St,Johns but I loved Gander when I used to visit it. Its great to see how NL helped out.

Ppl fr Gander were indeed great & would do it again in a heartbeat.Other towns donated food, blankets, everything that a person would need & there were 6-7000. Ppl fr as far away as Lewisporte, Botwood & Grand Falls-Windsor & throughout Gander Bay bundled themselves & anything they thought might help & headed there. They gave fr their hearts; money, food, themselves to work doing anything and everything. Far to much to list. What is imp. is that any Nl community would do the same at any time.

@ka3kcj I hate to break it to you but I know quite a few Newfoundlanders (including myself) who would like it pronounced the right way.

@LadyHeathersLair No, most MAINLANDERS pronounce it New-FUN-land, but if you actually lived in NL you would realize its NewFOUNDland. I should know

Nice story. Canadians are great people. Maybe we can spread more of that to the US

Canadians are the only people on earth that will shout from the rooftops how humble we are.
I really hate that about us.
